    Is the expectation for men really that high or it's just a internet meme?
    Story time:
    I remember when I came to my much older friend's house from work. He clearly had no one to talk to, and he was like in this video. Then, when I was standing in the hall, the door opened to his son's bedroom, he was about my age and looked very unkempt. Not a great look. He quickly closed his door in panic, probably thinking I had already left... weird having your own son and wanting someone else to take his place.

      I think it's kinda common. You obviously won't have the same kind of emotional baggage with people that are practically strangers to you. With your own parents you have this sort of a social contract to fulfill that comes from the parent-child relationship and I think that often gets in the way so you can't just be "good friends" the way you can with other people

    Damn, Ivos dad really turned heel there.
    Felt like there was some potential for him to develop some understanding and find some common ground with Ivo, but it seems like he's found himself too tempted by the son he wish he'd had.
    I've always liked these videos because I don't think they really point a finger at who's wrong or who's right, the viewer is largely left to be the judge. Ivo lives the way he wants to live, he's not hurting anyone. His father up until this point just wanted to have something to bond with his son over, but struggled because finding common ground was tricky. But father-son relationships are a mutual thing, and Ivo needs to want that connection as much as his father does. I think based on this video it shows that it is something that Ivo wants, but is he trying as hard as he could be? Or is his father expecting far too much of him? His father giving the father-son treatment to Julian is clearly impacting him, but what can he really do about it? Julian is a roided up simpleton, he's abandoned any sort of intellectual or creative pursuits in his life in favor of getting swole and chasing women. Does Ivo have to completely destroy every aspect of himself to become like that, just to become the more traditional son his father wishes he was, and have any chance of a relationship with him?
    In this video Julian isn't an agitator, he just simply is himself. He's not trying to take Ivo's father away from him-- infact, he seems a little awkward at first when Ivo's dad starts funneling his fatherly instincts onto him. He warms up to it, but is that his fault? Like Ivo's dad, Julian is just enjoying the company of someone he can bond with.
    Nobody is acting out of malice here, but in the end, someone is ending up deeply hurt all the same.

It is what it is. I just dont wanna see Ivo become a chad or some variation of that, i would rather him stay as he is and pursue his own dreams regardless of what the father want from him. That feeling when you know you're not what your dad is looking for.

    • @Stryfe564
      @Stryfe564 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      What I realized about my childhood, is part of the reason I was not what my dad wanted is because I disliked my dad very early on because he often got into intense emotional conflict with my mom. I always experienced him as insecure, absent, solipsistic, and full of aggression issues. The family life wasn't how he had dreamt it up so he just withdrew and pretty much didn't raise me. Because of that everything associated with my dad, like cars, football etc. became sort of repulsive to me. Nowadays I actually like learning about technology and doing sports.
      I did have some development issues which made sports and communication harder for me as a kid. But my dad did not help by withdrawing, he actually gave me more defects. And he never genuinely encouraged me to develop myself as a man. When I hear about dads who give their sons some pressure to become more capable and independent I get very jealous. He only stuck around because he would've felt like a bad person otherwise. I had a lot of potential despite my setbacks but in part thanks to my dad I will always feel like a defective human being at my core.

      @@Stryfe564 I relate to your story very much. You can't fix the damage your dad gave you but you can live and develop yourself despite it. Atending a psychologist would help a lot (at least it helped me) however you will have to fight your deepest insecurities and accept your negative experiences to actually deal with the damage. It wont solve them of course but it'll shed light on the path to be a better version of yourself. To be honest I'm kinda tripping my way over there, but I keep going forward to not feel miserable anymore. Dude, I dont even know you but I truly wish you don't give up on yourself. One thing that I learned is that life doesnt have a meaning, you gotta make it mean something

    Either the father is still trying to change Evo by making him jealous, or I guess the father is slowly getting out of the delusion Evo can be changed and this is his way of moving on, like a substitute son. It is often said that boys have 2 fathers, the obvious biological fathers, and a mentor. part of the issue with many young men now is that they rarely get the opportunity to find a mentor with anything important to pass down. so many only get to interact with degenerates who are only a few years older than them, random people on the internet, and in lucky cases, the fathers of friends or girlfriends. Once a teen boy reaches a certain age, they typically become standoffish with their parents in general, this would be the stage where young men in the past would begin apprenticeships with the other men of the village, thus finding their 2nd father. I feel as though this aspect in male development has generally been lost in most of the modern world. i was lucky enough to get a job as a cleaning boy/shop assistant at a machine shop in my home town and was surrounded by many older men with a mechanical mind like myself, and i was able to learn a lot from the experience.

    • @thenew4559
      @thenew4559 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +24

      You're right, this is one of the most important things society neglects for the development of young men. Society discourages mentorships in favor of pushing people down the funnel of getting expensive (and increasingly useless) degrees. At the same time, very few older men feel the need to pay everything society's given them over the years back by becoming a mentor to someone just starting out.

      @RedFloyd469 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +27

      And what "self" would you be actualising, exactly? You should always ask yourself this question first and foremost. Otherwise you end up being somebody ELSE'S actualization.
      Ivo, in this video, clearly does not share his father's passion, hobbies, character, etc...
      Why should that be a bad thing? Why should all men strive for the same exact goals?
      Because memes demand it? Because that's what the propaganda demands? Because that's what insecure people demand?
      If you cannot answer that question positively, or have to resort to repeatedly parroting the same fallacies, then the problem lies with you, not with what you call people who "accept their weakness".
      If Ivo has different passions, then he should explore those passions and grow in so far as it suits his wishes and his needs. THAT would be HIS self-actualization. Embracing an ideal of physical strength and superficial looks because that's what certain political propagandists desire for their tribal mindset, rather than because it's what you personally want, is inherently insecure, mindless behavior.

Like the shaking of the camera when Julian gets up, the street fighter effects when he punches the bag, and how Ivo's dad warps around. Even though they're supposed to be regular guys, it really makes their most exceptional qualities look amazing. Very emotional. 💯

    I had this happen to me when I was a teenager. My dad was into skateboarding and I brought a friend over who was naturally talented at it. He literally would hang with that guy and I tried to get into skateboarding but it was too late. So I got into weightlifting and Brazilian jui jujitsu even more than he kinda gave me the attention but he was always wanting to spend time with my skateboarder friend. im not confused or femme like ivo but as a slender dude it doesnt feel good to have a parent ignore your existence due to not being their ideal
    i was never what he wanted, other than a punching bag
    having a golden sports-child as a brother made it more clear what the real priorities were, to live vicariously through the achievements of your progeny and act as if its your own win
    "my kid plays x-sport!"....im just gonna be me and not care; just like he never took an interest in anything i like, i refused to participate in his bullshit

      You can fix being slender though. It doesn’t take a lot, eat more and work out 3 times a week at least. 1g protein/pound of body weight. If your parents have this other golden child they will have no issue giving you the supplies to become a second golden child

    Their relationship is like modern day Hank and Bobby Hill. Yeah they have a hard time seeing eye to eye and bonding sometimes. But the love and effort is there.
    Dad has went to Ivo's dance recitals. And Ivo has gone on fishing trips and to the gym with his dad. And they have meaningful conversations were they try to understand each other. But the challenges of having drastically different personalities and interest is evident.
    But As long as that effort is there? They'll find common ground eventually. Just like Hank and Bobby did at the end of the series.
