  • NEET roommates is a short animation about a group of friends who live under one roof. Although everyone benefits from domestic comfort, only one of them covers all costs, the rest is absorbed into the abyss of laziness from which it is more and more difficult to go back.

It was only me and him but I did all the laundry, cleaned up around the place, and rarely brought anyone over. I also always bought and ate my own groceries. When I ran out of money, I told him I would get a job and eventually did. I stayed there for 5 months but only chipped in on rent for the last 3 before I moved in to my own place. I lived in a house with 4 other guys, all trying to get their s@%# together (including myself), but I was the only one with a salary career (but that DOES NOT make me better than them). But only 2 of us had any sense of direction that I knew of. Some were dependent on me for favours, and there was always a blame game on who didn’t clean what. Now I live in a new state on a few acres, renting the upstairs of a house on a hill. I never want to live with that many people or in a city ever again. The price of peace is worth it!

@@kys7615 Yeah, I know that feel. The only reason I moved into that house in the first place was because during the coof days in 2020, I was laid off from my job. So I used my unemployment and pandemic assistance money to pay for a room's rent for 6 months in advance. They weren't bad people, but 5 personalities with completely different backgrounds tend to clash swords here and there. Although I'd rather own, but so far, renting this place in a rural area is the best decision I've made in years.
I hope you get your stuff together. It's rough for the younger generations, despite what the boomers tell you, but it's still doable. If I had the same values I have now years ago, then I'd have bought a house or some land in Montana, Idaho or Missouri and I'd be a little bit better off in that regard, seemingly.

This is how it was for me living with my "best friends" from childhood. I was the only one working full time consistently, yet i was always the one cleaning. I was the only one fixing the broken appliances. I had to be the one to contact the landlord. During the height of the pandemic i was doing an internship and working 60-70 hours a week while they were sitting at home all day. They refused to even clean once a week. It got to the point where i had to move on for my own sanity. I deserved better. I moved out and now my life is significantly better. Kings if you are in your early 20s in a bad relationship or housing situation. I urge you to do what you can to leave. You are too young to be caught up on people who refuse to change or recognize your work ethic.

This was my life before I finally did the same thing here, however it wasn't just me but the landlord who finalised them to be kicked out as well. The only difference was that they still had "income"
So imagine these 2 guys sitting on the couch and making a mess of the place but they are justified to do it because they "pay the rent"
"Rent" but not milk, or new dishes they break, or food they eat.
because they said "the house is partly mine too" it meant they could have parties that shook the walls and made a mess of the place for me to clean up the next day.
But they still relied on me to clean, or get stuff for them from the store never to remember to pay me back for it. It got so bad when they literally knocked on my door and asked me why the dishes weren't washed. When I had just washed all the dishes that morning. and I go up and one of them had just made a mess of the kitchen and all the dishes were in the sink again.

I remember this even in the Marine Corps. I leave my laundry detergent unlocked. My room mate uses it. No big deal. I go back about half of the extra large, expensive one is gone... half... gone.
I get another one and lock that up. Less than a week later, over 100 loads of laundry has been used up, because "why bother measuring it out, he'll just buy more..."
So he comes to me and says "we're out of laundry detergent" so I say "no, you are."
"oh, but I thought you bought that..."
    "no, dude."
He yells something about teamwork and boot camp or whatever.
I tell him something that I forget now...
anyway... he got mad about it and I kept all of my stuff separate from his and eventually he kept trying to get out of my room and then I had another room mate move in and he did all of the same stuff I did with locking things up... we very rarely shared, but I was willing to with him because he's not the sort who will take a clear unfair advantage of the situation.

I'm a NEET. Got my first job when I was 21, got my own place, and was made redundant after a year or so. Struggled to find a new job, had what seemed like a 3 week endless anxiety attack where my heart would beat intensely and palpitate several hours a day every day. Tried to kill myself and failed. That was 3-4 years ago. Diagnosed with major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder, avoidant personality disorder and general anxiety disorder. Eventually got approved for disability payment which they must think I'm really fucked up because it's notoriously difficult to get approved but it was extremely easy for me. Tried multiple therapists and medications, none helped.
Ended up developing agoraphobia, struggle to go out anywhere. Tried to kill myself again and failed miserably. Had recently been going for walks at night as a kind of exposure therapy but then I just end up getting intense fear that I may get attacked by someone since there's like no one around at night and those feelings continually got worse. I've even tried meeting new people, wanting to find people who are in a similar situation and would understand but people always flake, clearly I shouldn't bother. I don't enjoy life, I have no interest in living, my life has been destroyed by mental illness. I struggle to enjoy anything and I have intense brain fog. I live alone but keep my home fairly clean, mostly being slow to wash dishes and bathroom but it doesn't get to a revolting state. Struggle to exercise and make healthy food because I just feel completely exhausted all the time.
The funny thing is that if I succeeded in killing myself and escaping my suffering, it'd be considered a tragedy. But since I failed to do that, I'm just seen as a disgusting parasite. I don't even want to be here, I haven't wanted to be here for 7 years. Yet, I'm forced to stay alive against my will so that people can continue to look down on me.

Personally, I would have given the protagonist's friend and brother several chances and then an ultimatum to get their crap together, work, and contribute to living in the apartment before kicking them out. I also would have shown the friend how to use the fold-out bed so he can stop making excuses, LOL. I like the revelation that Julian has a little brother that is just as terrible as he is, not to mention a mother that is too good for both of them. The time and effort you put into the continuity of your characters is something most Hollywood writers could take some examples from. Keep up the good work.

It's strangely motivating being the only one of the friends working hard, studying on the weekends, attending business meetings (even when the feeling of anxiety almost kills me sometimes) but in the end, it's rewarding. And I know that I don't have to do this forever, just for a few years, to have a nice pension secured

That everything right now is really hard to achieve and that I am doing my best and should be proud of not being like the couch roommates. Even though it's been so, so hard and even though I think about giving up often. Your videos make me think that I should be really proud to just keep going. Even if I have been underachieving my goals in my eyes and others.

One of my old roommates let his semi-NEET friend crash on a chair in our living room for a few months. He was the most disgusting and inconsiderate person I've come across. He spent all of his money from his fast food job that he worked at for like 25 hours a week on Mtn Dew, frozen pizza/burritos and video games. He never cleaned up after himself. Literally the dude would take a shower and come out smelling like shit, idk how that's even possible.

I've been there, but I was living on my own savings collected from previous job. That career requires a person to work 80 hours a week during peak seasons, persisted for 10 months before I snapped and sent the resignation letter.
Traumatized by that experience, I remained as a NEET for almost a year(the overtime pay was enough to support my life for that long), all I did was playing RPGs all day, surfing TH-cam for memes, and sleeping whenever I like. I became extremely cynical, toxic, indifferent to everything, severed all contacts with family and friends, just me in my barren wasteland.
It was truly a dark period of my life, thankfully I somehow recovered from that condition afterwards and started to look for a job, as for now, I've been working for almost 2 years in the new company.

When i was 17 i hot my first job after searching for years and after 9 days the company fired the entire department along with myself
I was devastated and i spend almost 2 years looking for a job during day and crying my way to sleep during the night all while hearing my family say how useless i was
I have mostly recovered since but i became extremely socially awkward and i basically lost all the friends i had during my teens because i didnt have money to hang out and they already had jobs and stuff and some were even in the middle of college while i was trying to get anything that payed me

Usually these videos make me feel mildly depressed but I really liked this one. Shared living was only a bit over four years ago for me. I remember feeling so trapped and frustrated with the filthy conditions that only myself and one other housemate made any effort to clean up. The lack of ambition, the drugs, alcohol and complete unwillingness to grow up or take any responsibility was awful to be around.
My partner falling pregnant was the best thing to ever happen to me. Suddenly there wasn't a desire to get out but a necessity. I began renting an apartment for just us, got married, studied, got into a better career and built a house together out of the city for our family.
I have many flaws and I don't think I'm better than others but once in a while, it's okay to be proud of making some good decisions.

Its not that those men are weak or lazy that's for sure. The homo genus was around for eons. The homo sapiens were around for 200k and it took us up till 1800s to reach 1 billion in population. 150 years later in the 50s we reached 3 and by the end of this year its gonna be 8. We overburdened the nexus of energy, food and water. Prices are going up.., we need to slave away so we are able to sleep on the couch at the end of the day while being so tired and depressed that we just look up at the ceiling. Females are biologically wired for strong successful men... we aren't successful.. even the 10% of what were normal men worthy of starting a family with is shrinking. The population causes all sorts of issues that aren't related to a shortage of housing, administrative overburdening and a higher rise of mental illnesses caused by all of us bunched together mostly in urban areas looking for work or educating ourselves. The issue is that we are damaging the planet to such a degree that plastics are found even in the soil we grow food in. Many more things are carcinogenic but that's not the problem. The reality of things is humanity or societies will collapse because men are ill. We have very low testosterone because of the things we eat, wear, the shampoo we using.. sedentary lifestyle, lack of sunlight for vitamin D that is needed for testosterone production. Unhappiness in men that are single or even ones that aren't. Dopamine and testosterone are tied. If one goes down so does the other and vice versa. Now without females by our side we have no purpose to be the main bread winners, main protectors or too even serve. Nothing anchors us down anymore. We are floating without firm stand in society. We are lost souls.

If I gotta be honest, I'm in a limbo state between the working roommate & the Neet.
My "excuse" for not having any ambitions or doing anything is because middle & high school messed me up to the point I didn't want to think about my own survival or future. However I've let too much time elapse, and now my lazy days are numbered.
However I haven't been completely lazy; I've been doing art for years now but am uncertain if my skills are decent enough for anyone to consider commissioning me, I've been trying out TH-cam/Twitch for years on & off with little to no success, I've tried coding my own games and it helped with my self-esteem but I need to be better at making time for it, and I've been attending community college for years but I'm afraid despite my new healthier mental state it'll be too little too late.
I'm losing time & luxury to pursue those things; I'm currently applying to work anywhere I can, even if it's somewhere I won't necessarily enjoy.

I live with my mom and wife does too, we just buy our own food and gas and since I'm in college still she says I can stay for free but that doesn't sit right with me, so I use my cash from art to help pay for stuff we need in the house and the money from soccer is getting saved for my own place in buying a house not an apartment. I'm 22 and my credit is impeccable. I used this time my mom has given to me to get ahead as everyone should. Don't use the graces to get by easy in life make life easier by trying at least a little.

When I moved out of the house I lived with my tyrant mother and her son. This caused me a lot of psychological damage. As a student I moved into a dorm, dealt with my studies and at first I lived with 2 types who cared little about anything, it was hard to get used to from the old bad conditions to the bad new ones. Constantly cleaning up and just wanting quiet. I asked to solve the problem and they evicted me to the next room, I had to settle in there.
After another 1.5 years, they wanted to re-settle those guys and it temporarily came out. Until a war broke out in my country. Knowing that I just needed a quiet place to get away from my life, they tried to put me back in with guys who were very unpleasant.
So far, they moved out and I live with more peaceful, but your question about the desire, I would answer and there is a reason or event that will give impetus to this desire. Achieve in life, for myself, I do not want, I want people to start to live as human beings and care not only about themselves. The world is extremely sad to strive to achieve success for themselves.
