    So, some things...
    "There's already doom posts but F-Zero appears to be alive and well"
    Eh, _interest_ in F-Zero seems to be alive and well. But as has been proven time and time again with Nintendo, that means nothing as far as actually getting a new game. At the end of the day, what determines what games Nintendo makes outside of their big cash cow IPs is _executive_ interest, not customer interest. Which, to be fair, I get it, and from a creative point of view I find that to be highly respectable. Problem is it also results in a very disappointed fanbase. I'll believe that the franchise itself is alive again if and when we get another new game.
    "Overwatch. ...wait, bad example."
    Yeah, Team Fortress 2 would have been a better example. :P
    ...but seriously. TF2 has one of the most dedicated and persistent core fanbases I've ever seen, despite VALVe's almost total neglect of the game.
    "BS F-Zero GP 2 Content"
    Dataminers found three unused venues in F-Zero 99's files. Two of them, Sulfur Swamp and Volcania, loosely correlate with F-Zero Maximum Velocity venues (Synobazz and Crater Land respectively) but the third... _Forest._ Yes, the Forest Venue exists in F-Zero 99's files. So it's not impossible that we'll see the Satelliview content, or Maximum Velocity content for that matter. And honestly, the game really needs it. Right now the Golden Fox is kinda dominating everything except on the really technical courses, and in general the Satelliview and GBA tracks are more technical than the SNES ones.
    "Is this a one-off release or will we see another game? Did 99 perform well enough?"
    Like I said before it's pretty much a given that its performance is ultimately irrelevant. The thing that's going to save F-Zero isn't going to be public interest or sales of previous games or anything like that, but convincing the higher-ups at Nintendo to greenlight another title. And while F-Zero 99's performance might help with that, it's not going to be the deciding factor.
    General comment for the future:
    I've said it before elsewhere, I believe F-Zero's future is in spiritual successors like Aero GPX and XF eXtreme Formula, not in hoping Nintendo will throw us another bone.
    "Multiverse shenanigans"
    Honestly, this doesn't even have to be a problem. The inconsistencies with the main and GP Legend timelines are already handled by the fact that they're separate continuities, and combining them can be simply handwaved that the GP Legend exclusive characters aren't actually the GP Legend characters but rather their main-continuity counterparts, making the necessary changes to fit them into the timeline. Lisa Brilliant, for example, would work without any changes, while Ryu/Rick and Miss Killer could be changed to a detective and the fem fatale mob girl who's both Ryu's love interest and the suspect he's chasing without him knowing it (yes, I know it's a cheesy noir film plot, but it fits with the cheesy, western comic book theming and aesthetic of F-Zero).
    It'd be trickier to rectify the MV characters, but not by much. As Maximum Velocity is a very lore-light game you could literally just retcon the timeframe and say they were underground races taking place during the ban (thus also justifying the apparent tech discrepancy), or that it too is an alternative continuity where the F-Zero racing series had been shut down for longer than it was in the main timeline before X (allowing the "main continuity counterpart" handwave to be used for them as well).
    "It's great we got something"
    I mean, I guess. I'm kinda upset Nintendo catfished us the whole time up until then, though. Teasing with various cameos and the like, bringing up the series as examples of technical aspects of their various consoles, etc. but never actually doing anything with it.

      Oh I really like long comments like this, a good read with very valid points, lemme give you a short reply to each of your points:
      Yes, executive interest is the main thing. Money is the main factor, of course. Like you said, it has bene proven time and time again that big companies, not just nintendo, don't really care much, if anything, about us. A sad reality.
      Oh yeah TF2 has an insane fanbase. I mainly took Overwatch because its a game I actively played since beta and I just experienced its fall, which is a shame cause I'm one of those crazy people who still play it a lot and want it to be good :,D
      I am **really** hoping for those BS tracks, especially with the datamine mentioning Forest. And like you said, GF is a bit of a problem. I doubt we will ever get a balance adjustment but more complicated tracks or maybe even more machines (?) could shake up the meta?
      Yes, true...sadly.
      Yeah Aero GPX is something that I am sure we all are very excited for. Basically the F-Zero nintendo never made. Fan projects are the things that have been helping this community a lot and they will continue, since they aren't limited by corporate decisons.
      Combining the lore into one would be possible since the anime exclusive characters don't really interfere with established main canon lore so I don't see any problem with something like that. And with MV, yeah your theory is also one I like since it explains the discrepancies very simply without creating problems.
      I get that last point, really decribes it very well. But hey, the community has been very active since the release so thats a win in my eyes, even if its just a small one :)
      Once again: I really appreciate comments like this. I may not reply every time because I honestly don't know how to reply sometimes...I'm not really the best when it comes to being social but please know that stuff like this is appreciated and I always have fun reading and thinking about it!

    I was thinking of this topic but you beat me to it. I will say that F-Zero 99 at least needs the ability to add custom lobbies and also for randomized 5-track GPs. They could even try a Reverse Track Mode (where players race tracks in the opposite direction) But you know, they can score some points by walking back their "these tracks are final" decision, because we all know every game after the original F-Zero has more varied tracks that can actually work in the F-Zero 99 format.
    (That and the number of tracks most players experience is quite pitifully low for an online-multiplayer racing game. Especially when Mario Kart 8 lets one race on over 50+ tracks. An unfair example in some aspect, but F-Zero 99 desperately needs new tracks.)

    • @Link-Zero
      @Link-Zero  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Would be really great if we got more tracks...the recent update was already a win in my eyes so maybe there is more to come. I've shown this datamine in the video (twitter.com/LuigiBlood/status/1729726646373044590) which gives me a tiny bit of hope that we may get some extra tracks in the future but as with all datamines/leaks I wouldn't get my hopes up just yet.
      Fingers crossed this isn't the end yet :)

    I'd consider myself a pretty big F-Zero fan, and 99 has me a little worried about the future, but I am glad that Nintendo has (kinda) kept to their word about keeping F-Zero in the back of their minds like they say in most interviews about it. It's given me some hope, and i've seen a lot of people that enjoy the game a ton, and it makes me happy to know that F-Zero is still very much loved, if not completely by Nintendo, by many people.

    I'm hoping Nintendo do a F-Zero X remaster for the next Switch. It's the purest of the 3D games, with the best tracks, and deserves a remaster. Some of the better tracks from GX, AX and the 16-bit era can be added for an "Ultimate" version.

  • @NikoSoviet88

    This game feels like the start of something more, an appetizer as you will but this is a great chance for Nintendo to work in more people and keep fans happy by adding more content and qol stuff instead of basic classic mode and mini lottery thing. It's great to see the positive reception for 99 but fans and casuals can agree the series deserves more. It will be interesting to see how much more content 99 gets in the next 6 months. We know at some point MV will release but it's been so long I feel like they are waiting to release it along side gx remastered in the next 6-12 months maybe. As always, great video and glad F-Zero is back in some form. Congrats on the growth.

    • @Link-Zero
      @Link-Zero  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've certainly been getting that appetizer vibe from this game. Kinda feels like Nintendo is testing to see if the interest is really there, especially after the community has been asking for something for so long. Of course this isn't what we wanted but maybe there is the chance that we get more in the future.
      I'm happy that the game is still enjoyed now and the fact that we got an update seems like they want to continue with it...hopefully for the next few months! And yeah, there may be something to your MV release theory. It just seems a bit off to me that they keep it locked away so long...
      And thank you, I appreciate it :)

    I think 99 is just the beginning. My hope is that we'll see GX remastered on the Switch, and then something new entirely Switch 2. I just hope that for either hypothetical game, we get online play. Stuff like a track editor would be cool, but online play is straight up mandatory.
    Regarding team battle, I've done it mainly to grind for 99 win badge in that mode. For a mode that encourages you to try and ram other players off the track, you're not rewarded enough for doing that. Lap score usually ends up being the only thing that matters, even if one team crushes the other in every other category. Some players call winning in that mode a coin flip. Perhaps double the point rewards for spin attacks and KOs, or make the spin attack have no cooldown during team battle. Maybe a 4 team version would be cool. Make the improvements and then throw in some badges/decals/ship colors at the same time so people will try it out.

    • @Link-Zero
      @Link-Zero  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh yes definitely. Online Play is a must for games like this. And like you said, a track editor would be amazing. X's track editor was already quite nice so a modern version would be very fun.
      And after reading your comment (and the others mentioning team battle) I can see those issues. I kinda feel like F-Zero 99 just isn't really designed for a mode like this. You and the others have suggested more teams and I think that would be worth a try. If I remember correctly, there was a datamine mentioning more teams but I am not too sure on that right now.

    I absolutely despise those top players who have 99+ 1st place wins because it makes it seem like I’ll never get that chance to make it. Not even if I grind out practice sessions. It wouldn’t be fair, but I’d wish they’d put those other players in their own category.

    • @DeneuveYT
      @DeneuveYT 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      This is what the rival system is supposed to help with although sometimes you will still end up racing rivals much higher level. Wasn’t like that too bad earlier in the year but fewer players now. My advice would be to try not to resent them but to learn from them if you can, maybe spectate good players of your vehicle or better yet watch some videos on here or twitch to see how they’re playing free of the weird network issues while spectating. Those of us with many wins have honestly just put in the work to learn more of the fundamentals and little things, crafted better routes and grown our familiarity with the tracks and skyway usage. Maybe even worked on our nerves if that was the issue in races. Although I do wish that there were just more active lobbies to better spread people out we can only make do with the game as it is. We used to have pro tracks which was nice for both newer players practicing difficult tracks and veterans staying familiar but the new Classic mode has seemingly done away with it which is a shame. But anyone who keeps racing will always have at least the chance for the big win goal they’re aiming for and while tough to be placing lower than you’d like usually once you’ve learned something new it doesn’t stop being beneficial to implement in games. It’s a very tight game and for that reason I recommend lower rank players to focus more on the gameplay and less about the placements as the former leads to success in the latter.

    • @LOP4795
      @LOP4795 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@DeneuveYT no I get putting in the work and the practice. I’m 100% all in for that. At this point I can make top 25 or 10 easily unless there are some major sweats on and I’m not on top of my game. But I do hear the same copy pasta response from high ranking players who make it feel like they want to keep the canon fodder around so the game isn’t filled with only the barracuda players itching for blood of casual players who can only play on weekends. Honestly my suggestions is to add “leagues” like other F-Zero games have. So, beginner, standard, expert, and master. Beginner is locked after a certain number of wins because you want more people playing the game, right? Imagine coming in and getting rocked and some guy just goes “hmm, sorry, kid, better watch my videos. Smell ya’ in the Gran Prix.” I’d be motivated but other won’t. You want them to have some sense of progression. If they make it to master and can’t win then that’s a skill issue and those who want to continue will work hard. I’d rather see the game flourish and stay active for longer.

    As an S9 player who hasn't outright won a GP yet but has hit top 3 in them a few times, I've been thinking to go give X and GX a whirl some time now
    F-Zero 99 is marketed as "hey this thing's free with this other service, care to give it a go?" being a free inclusion with the NSO service, and I think that in itself is a good sign of trying to build up some new interest (on top of having the original in the VC pack): if you never heard of or really gave the series a chance, hopefully this'll get you to try it and maybe some of the other games
    Maybe even look forward to more to come!

    There is so much they COULD do, the question is if they WILL. The satellite expansion to the original game had four different vehicles and all new tracks. There are GBA titles to pull tracks and cars from. There is enough content that already exists to recreate that they could go for a while just on that. That is all besides things like custom lobbies, different modes, new cosmetics, etc.

  • @DeneuveYT
    @DeneuveYT 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Team battle has a number of problems but the main ones I’d say are lack of track variety, lack of danger, lack of real players, and lack of meaningful advantages. By lack of danger I mean that it only has the lucky bumpers yet this works against the mode imo since it overall lowers the skill needed to survive the race and creates less opportunity for KO’s even though sometimes there are a lot of them. They’re just not as dangerous as reds/greys and this reinforces the other point that there’s a lack of real advantages to gain and team battles devolve into the best players and the best vehicles for the tracks (fox mostly) front running but not actually being able to take each other out very often. I have the full team battle wins badge and I’d say that my win rate is only a bit over 50% despite my score almost always being one of the best in the whole lobby. It’s too balanced in a sense where the teams seem very evenly split most of the time or some kind of phenomenon of the many bots is bringing the experience closer to a coin flip mode where players seem a bit let down and confused as to how the whole thing could have gone better afterward. There should be a bit more of clear incentives and more ability to realistically reach them so it feels like the more skillful team really prevailed.

    On the topic of what a new game could be, I like GX but I'd personally like to see a new classic-style game first. They have such a different feel, but the classic-style game would take a lot less resources to make, and I feel like we kinda got robbed with every single one since the original. (The obvious shortcomings of the BS F-Zero Grand Prix's super limited release, Maximum Velocity being released so early on the GBA that its graphics and sound are significantly worse, and GP Legend and Climax mostly or entirely rehashing existing track venues). I'd love to see them "redeem" the 2D side of the series with something with FZ99-quality graphics and some genuine new content

    I can relate to feeling exhausted with the game. Haven't played it at all since maybe a couple days or weeks before the update. I'm not sure I'd consider myself competitive, but I wouldn't consider myself casual. The thing is is, I get bored playing the same machine all the time, so I was trying to get all the paints and decals for every machine, but then I ended up ranking up to a point where one or two machines just feel useless against the more skilled players I get matched with, and so I can't complete the objectives without simply grinding out races until eventually the front runner crashes out or something and hands me a win after weeks of trying. The fact that there are so many unlockables tied to winning and not just placing in the top 10 or whatever in an online multiplayer game is kinda infuriating, especially when the content isn't that much more than the original SNES game.

    Team battle is horrid. It’s the least populated mode, so it’s maximum 20 real players in a race. The rest are all bots.
    There’s very little meaningful interaction around the ‘team’ concept anyways. You get points for:
    a) deliberately bumping people, which you probably need to deviate from the racing line a fair bit to do
    b) frontrunning, meaning you’re basically playing the 99 mode except without the ability to gain rival rank points, and your wins don’t really ‘count’ for anything
    The worst part is, you have essentially zero impact on your team’s overall score. Winning is a complete coinflip. I’m trying to get the 99 wins badge and it’s pretty much torture.
