She has said that she and her husband (Lead Guitar Neil Girardo) will sing this song at EVERY show they ever do to bring awareness to child abuse! Love them both.

Pat was actually trained in opera, but she chose rock and roll instead and we are all happy she did.

Pat wrote this at a time when child abuse was not talked about. She read about the fatal abuse of a child in the 80s and could not believe such cruelty could exist as one who grew up in such a great neighborhood and community in Long Island. Pat took on the taboo topic shedding a huge light on child abuse through this Rock Anthem. Pat has a Foundation and is still helping children of abuse today.

Pat was the FIRST to speak out and lend her voice to social issues like abuse in spite of the criticism from the corporate world. And her fans stood with her all they way to the United Nations.

"Pat Benatar" Patricia Mae Giraldo and her husband Neil Giraldo is an American rock singer and songwriter. In the United States, she has had two multi-platinum albums, five platinum albums, and 15 Billboard top 40 singles, while in Canada she had eight straight platinum albums, and she has sold over 35 million albums worldwide. Neil is among the finest guitarist in rock history, as you now know. Pat is barely 5 feet tall yet was HUGE on MTV and radio. Another GIANT LITTLE LADY added to your awesome Playlist.

Pat Benatar was HUGE in the 80's. Definitely an 80's icon for sure!!!
She really set fashion trends and her songs were in movie soundtracks and she rocked the top of the charts for cool decade...if not more.

The lyrical contradiction of child abuse, as written and sung by Pat, is utter genius.
"Hell is for Hell" - Yes, as it should be, makes sense, and not at all a contradiction. Total Hell is suppose to remain in Hell.
"Hell is for children" - No, should never be, makes no sense, and is a total contradiction. Total Hell is suppose to remain in Hell!
Pat sure knows how to throw a message out there in the hardest hitting best of ways. Great reaction!

My deepest respect goes to Pat and Neil for what they have done for children. She wrote this in response to an article on child abuse that she read abd it really shocked her because she grew up in a very loving, caring home. She insisted that it be included on the album to the point where she told the studio (Chrysalis Records) that either it was included or they had no album period. When it came out, she was the first artist to even address the subject, let alone in such an open and forceful manner. They have insisted that every penny earned from the song be donated to charity to combat child abuse and help the victims. They are literally "taking a loss" on what turned out to be one of her biggest hits... and she has never waivered from that. They are still child advocates and deserve respect

"Heartbreaker" was the big hit from her debut album. "Hell is For Children" was the deep cut that became a fan favorite.

Agree with so much said here. She can put so much angst into her voice and vary her tone and tempo across such a wide range. Social statements one track, relationship woes, human desire and more. "Promises in the Dark" for sure. But for the full kick-butt rocker "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" is not to be missed.

Man you have a way of drilling right down to the bone of the subject. Like you said when she says hell is for children it means it shouldn't be, it should be for people who belong in Hell, not innocents on earth Also, the person who shredded the guitar is her long-time producer, guitarist and husband, Neil Giraldo, who's very underrated. Great reaction to one of my all-timers, bro.

Pat Benatar and her husband Neil Giraldo. He calls her Patricia, she calls him Spyder. As husband and wife, they are known on marquees as Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, and their love story is as legendary as it is long.

Good song too, but I always wondered who was the genius that decided to place "Hell is for Childen" directly after "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" on the original vinyl track listing. Somebody didn't think that one through.

She was way ahead of her time, on a lot of things, but this Song speaks volumes on this issue. She knew Child Abuse was out there, & she used her Platform to bring it to the forefront. She fought hard with the Record Company, & others to do the right thing. You have to remember this is when Child Abuse was never talked about, at all. I hope that others listening will understand how long this has been going on. Save the Children, & God Bless those who do.
