    What a grand species. I never saw gramma blooms before. Very nice, But I think that plant is going to be way bigger than anything I've ever imagined an orchid could be. So glad you displayed them. Always a pleasure!

    yours look AWESOME! The spikes on mine blasted within a week of them arriving in the mail. Normally i would have mine outside by now, but it has been construction city in my garden! When I bring them out, hopefully with some TLC they will spike again. I have noticed that they seem to be extremely sturdy orchids!

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tropical Plant Party Thank you...and hopefully you didn't cut or remove the spikes....it appears that it will continue spiking at the base or near the base of older spikes, at least that's what's been going on with mine. I am finger crossing that yours will respike again so you can enjoy the very wild and beautiful blooms! P.S. I can't wait to see your transformed backyard paradise....should be awesome! HAPPY GROWING! :) ...PS is your Aerides Odorata spiking yet?

      MY Orchid Adventures oh there's a lot happening back here in my yard, but it's giving me lots of projects and content to record, so I'm definitely not going to complain about that! They are, all of them have several spikes on them, quite small spikes, but they have been through a lot the last couple months. The tree I keep most of my vandas in is dying, so I've had to do a lot of shuffling and the changing light from place to place angered them, they are ok though, hopefully they will be opening up in the next week or so. I'm very excited! ... I rarely cut spikes off, it's just an old habit from my phal days. Lol.

    I checked mine last evening and found a seed pods, at least 3 of them and a fast growing bulb🤔🤔like I need more grammas. I'm guessing, to insure it's longevity/survival, the seed pods are the objective. it's sitting up there like, this is what I want🤔. I may send it for propagation. As far as it producing more spikes, I haven't seen any..it's so hairy at the base. Maybe I'll check again this weekend. The flowers are long lasting...and it's under the shade cloth. happy growing.

      IT IS AN AMAZING ORCHID! This was the first time I got one so I didn't know what to expect...and surprisingly the information online does not talk much about it's spiking habit...I was amazed to find out that if the plant is mature enough it can send off several spikes with countless of blooms in one growing season. That's what I love most about this orchid! Thank you for watching and HAPPY GROWING!

  • @sheriaustin8641
    @sheriaustin8641 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi, After watching your unboxing a few months ago, I found one on eBay and it was coming from Wisconsin. It has not done anything but grow leaves and I did repot a month after getting it. It's in part shade so guessing it might start producing spikes if I move to a sunny location and fertilize it.

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sheri Austin Congratulations...and no worries, if it is mature enough it still has all summer to spike...weather temperature, lighting and fertilizing play a major role in getting orchids to bloom. Being that this orchid does love cattleya type lighting I would definately would up the lighting...but gradually you don't want my mishap to happen to you...also there are many orchids that can be triggered by a difference in temps during the day and night (at least 10 - 15 degrees difference) and is why many have difficulties with certain orchids grown indoors that maintain a consistent temperature. I am hoping you can get yours to spike soon...keep the orchid faith and I will keep my fingers crossed for you. :)

    Beautiful orchid! What potting medium do you use with this orchid? I watched the video when you received them. You purchased them from a FL grower? Which one?

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patricia Sholar Freund ...I have not yet repotted it since I got it....it is very pot bound and from what little media that I can see...it appears to be a bark mix....and I got the smaller one, I believe from Wisconsin and the bigger one from Florida from a friend and ebay vendor that goes under Michaela.

  • @mysticshining
    @mysticshining 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello there, I think it may be normal. It seems I heard they grow multiple spikes and maybe with the combination of a really great environment for them that you have? But wow 7 new spikes?! I have the Gram Leopard with one spike but it's amazing in bloom, you're going to love it. But I also have a Gram. crossed with a cymbidium and it def. seems really similar to the Gram but smaller. But it keeps spiking from the same two pseudo-bulbs. I bought it in bloom with another spike growing. Then they were done, and suddenly I saw two new growths that I assumed were new pseudobulbs but they were two new spikes. I was so surprised and I think these two will be in bloom together. Anyway, now I'm going to be on the lookout for new spikes on the Gram Leopard :D Thanks for your videos!

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mysticshining YES they are known to bloom multiple spikes...I just didn't know they can bloom so many, one after the other on a smaller plant...mine are considered small in comparison to the massive sizes that they can eventually reach. I actually thought they (as many orchids grow) were done producing their spikes and were beginning their process of producing new pseudo bulbs...WHAT A PLEASANT SURPRISE FOR ME! ...and yes they are within the cymbidium family of orchids so you can find several crossed with a variety of cymbidiumd...it's awesome to see that yours took on the grammo characteristics in their spike growth habit! Isn't it exciting!!! :) ...My big one is also the leopard variety and I am very pleased with it...it is quite a treasure to have! :)

    • @mysticshining
      @mysticshining 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I know, I think we're used to ONE or two bloom spikes a season and that's it. It's quite amazing that SO many spikes are growing on yours! I have seen pictures on youtube of ones that had multiple spikes in bloom, i think you're going to go crazy when they're all in bloom together. One spike in bloom is quite a site, I can't imagine multiple spikes. I think mine has like 60 blooms on it :D
      Wow, I didn't know they were in the cymbidium family, great. The cross I have has greenish/yellowish blooms but about half the size of the leopard. My leopard's largest pseudo-bulb is about 7 inches, not quite as big as my face :D Lol. p.s. I think I blasted the last few buds because of too much direct sun so I did the same thing and didn't acclimate it. Anyway, I look forward to your updates on these! Enjoy ;)

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mysticshining ...yea I expected this to have the basic growth habit of majority of orchids...once blooms are done then psuedo bulbs form and then the wait time of several months to a year until it blooms again...I'm so happy that I won't have to wait that long! ...and what was even more confusing is that I did notice healthy roots growing from the base so I automatically assumed that they must be bulbs...spikes don't grow roots...I was completely taken aback to discover these spikes have roots...how crazy is that! I am tempted to see if the spikes can grow keikis...they remind me of the tankervillea ground growing orchids that have the capability of being propagated through that method...and being that they have knuckles or what appears to be node areas...I believe it's a possibility...we shall see....and congratz on your 60 blooms!!! That is spectacular.. are they fragrant? I think that's the citrina variety. HAPPY GROWING AND ENJOY!!!

    • @mysticshining
      @mysticshining 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've only detected a fragrance a few times, and yes I think it's like citrus lime?? I'm not really checking very often though, I think I'm so knocked out by the size etc :D I bet yours might be stronger and more vigorous since it's outside and warm, etc. I think your Florida weather is what it likes. Oh well be sure to keep us updated on it! Have a great day! :)

I am hoping you find the perfect spot for them...but ensure that they don't get direct, burning sun...because they can cause quite a substantial amount of damage to the beautiful leaves. We are also experiencing a lot of rains...and I am finger crossing that the rot does not set in in my garden. :( :( HAPPY GROWING AND THANKS FOR WATCHING! :)

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These like the highest light you can give it without burning it. Sometimes if it does not get enough light it will not bloom for you. You can also boost the potential of blooms by ensuring that it is getting regular fertilizing and give it a bloom booster. Note that there are some types that don’t bloom every year and only bloom every so couple of years so research the orchid you have to determine it’s bloom cycle. Wishing you the best and I do hope that you can get it to bloom soon. HAPPY GROWING! 🤗

    I have a big tree in my backyard and since I finished fixing up everything back there and my patio in the back is done I'm ready to put things on my tree and I thought that kind of orchid would be perfect for the middle of the tree I'd like to know more about how to plant that kind of orchid on a tree????? and can you please spell it for me because I would love to order one and is that the only color they come in sorry for all the questions ??????

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This would make quite a nice display in the tree...but mind you that once it is mounted you have to ensure that you are capable of keeping it safe in that tree over the winter and during any other extreme weather. This orchid comes in solid colors and also with the bold patterns. Usually you will see these in a yellow or green color. I will let you know of the exact ones that I have. I ordered mine off of eBay for great prices...I've found smaller ones here in my area that are smaller and double the price that I got mine for....and never worry about asking questions...I will assist in anyway that I can. :)

    hello, thanks for the video, i have one , but it happened the same, i gave it to much light, and most of the leaves burn, now has new growth, i wanted to ask if is ok to mount in a huge bark cork i have is about 2 feet long, i always see them in a pot, but maybe someone know if is ok to mount it, thank you for your videos

    • @PictureMaria1
      @PictureMaria1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Arianna Gaviero Thank you for watching...and yes this is an epiphyte orchid so it is known for growing in nature on trees so wooden mounts would also work, providing that you can water them often and on a regular basis as this orchid loves to stay moist and is said that it should never be allowed to completely dry...so with it being mounted you would have to ensure you can water it even more then your norm or it may suffer....also note that this orchid can get quite large so you should have material that can hold it's weight and also have good space for it to grow. If you keep these things in mind you should do well. I am wishing you success on your project and please keep me posted. I would love to see the end result of it when it is complete. HAPPY GROWING! :)

      Mexican Korean Orchid Fishing Lover I don't know much about this orchid but there are some information on the web, although some information is a little bit conflicting...but one thing that is often mentioned is that if it does not get it's required care it is difficult or impossible to bloom. I have attached a link that I found useful that is a forum where growers give information on how they grow them and how they get them to bloom. One important thing to buying orchids is making sure we research them before we purchase them...that can save us money, time, effort and frustration...I can speak firsthand because I've lost many orchids because I made a last second, heart lead purchase without any knowledge of its care. I wish you success on your purchase and I hope the link helps...PS this orchid has been reclassified a time or two so I am not sure what they are calling it now... www.botanicaltd.com/images/culture%20information/dockrillia-culture-information.htm

      LOL!!! RIGHT!!!! I don't know how they don't get stolen...I am just so happy that they haven't. I think I would cry an endless river if they were to. I AM HOPING THAT DAY NEVER COMES! One day I will have a green house where I can keep them better maintained.

You must share with me what orchid treasures did you come home with... and you should share the pic on my facebook so I can enjoy them with you! LOL! I didn't go this year...but next year I do want to make it a point that I go. I'm hoping you had a blast and got a chance to cross everything off your wishlist (impossible task...LOL!) HAPPY GROWING! :)

      One of them did not survive the winter and the other one is in recovery mode. It has some new growths coming up so I have my fingers crossed that it will give us some blooms this year. I hope.
