I am going to be repotting this Grammatophyllum also know as Orchid Grams for short. this is the first of its species that I've own and I'd like to take this opportunity to share my repotting and care for this orchid.
I just received my grammatophyllum 2wks ago...thru my research yes they need lots of moisture I used pine bark and spagnum moss as my medium so far so good hadnt watered yet but since she's been potted I noticed how she's really spreaded out thinking she loves the extra room...I wish you luck with your gramma👍🏼
Noooooooo! Correction! Grammatophyllums are KNOWN for their ability to feed themselves and the way they do that is thru those white roots that are directed upwards, you are not supposed to cut all of them off, they are NOT dead, they serve a purpose of collecting leaf litter and other things that fall into the pot. I really do hope those roots grow back.
I'm not sure, given socal strong sun, I kinda doubt it. we do not have the kind of relative humidity unless of course you want to water it daily as palm tree tend to not hold water(correct me if I am wrong). Hope that helps

I don't have the ones in videos anymore as my friends wanted them when they came for visit. I since imported more of these orchids. They are still recovering from shipping shock. I have about 20 plus Grammatophyllum now.
Flower bud grows from flower spike. Flower spike growth usually can't tell until it grows longer. Also, for this particular species, Flower spike usually form around late fall to early winter. It was first time for me to grow this type of orchid, so I have not seen one spike growing myself. I've seen picture of it blooming on multiple nodes along the bulbs. Hope thar helps
Hi so how would you deal with those roots sticking out? I bought one exactly like that with the root hairs sticking out not sure if to put it in a bigger pot and cover it or leave it sticking out. Help!

I never heard of this type of orchid before. It looks vigorous and that dried flower spike looked huge. I bet the flowers are amazing.
First time I've seen this type, a quick Google search will bring up the images for its flower. You will love it

Would love a follow up video to see if there is a difference in growth of the plant using the 2 different potting media.

Root is not supposed to be cut it’s aerial roots I think😢
It should be fine, it will grow new growth and new sets of roots.

Any kind of rocks would work.
