@@rjmun580 All I’m saying is that Russian choirs, particularly of the Russian Orthodox Church, are magnificent. That doesn’t take anything away from the Welsh
...indeed... ...impressive scene...! ...reminds me to another classic, when in 'Cassablanca' the Germans sung 'Die Wacht am Rhein' and the Frech fought back with their 'Marseillaise'...! P.S. Greetings from Germany
Same here. First time I heard a version of the song was Zulu. It’s become the song I listen to when I need a pick me up. Or get revved up for a big event.
Lieutenant John Chard: [the Zulus are chanting before their final charge] Do you think the Welsh can't do better than that, Owen? Pvt. Owen: Well, they've got a very good bass section, mind, but no top tenors that's for sure.
The last time I heard this song was on the movie 'Zulu', decades ago...Thank You for reminding me again of this wonderful song with these beautiful voices.
Hark, I hear the foe advancing Barbed steeds are proudly prancing Helmets in the sunbeams glancing Glitter through the trees. Men of Harlech, lie ye dreaming See ye not their falchions gleaming While their pennons gaily streaming Flutter in the breeze. From the rocks resounding Let the war cry sounding Summon all at Cambreais call The haughty foe surrounding Men of Harlech, on to glory See your banner famed in story Waves these buring words before ye, "Britain scorns to yield!" Mid the fray see dead and dying Friend and foe together lying All around the arrows flying Scatter sudden death. Frightened steeds are wildly neighing Brazen trumpets loudly braying Wounded men for mercy praying With their parting breath. See they're in disorder, Comrades, keep close order Ever they shall rue the day, They ventured o'er the border. Now the Saxon flees before us, Victr'ry's banner floateth oe'er us, Raise the loud exulting chorus, "Britain wins the field!"
Since this entire conflict started I've had an obsession with watching zulu over and over, specifically the part where the zulus try to force the Welsh out on their final push, but the Welsh respond with singing men of harlech. Seeing how the 24th Regiment of foot stood their ground at rorkes drift in 1879 and how Ukrainians, both soldiers and civilians, even their leader standing their ground show too much similarity
"They've a very good bass section, mind, but no top tenors that's for sure."
LOL. That's why I tuned in.
Classic phrase
Sing!
Indeeed!
Think the Welsh can do better than that Owen ?
Absolutely beautiful no body can sing like the Welsh
except maybe the Cornish...!
Maybe The Russians?

Can't beat a Welsh choir, there's no sound like it on earth.
The first time I heard them in Zulu some 30 years ago, I've had their songs rattling around in my heard. The only song to do so. Beautiful harmony.
...indeed...

This is a different version to the one in Zulu.
I always thought that sing-off was a goof. On part of history. Because there bloody well should have been one.
I went to Greenslopes Stae School in Brissy, and in Music class, our teacher taught us how to sing this in Welsh. I still can sing it in Welsh

You can not beat a Welsh male voice choir. Cymru Am Byth.
The Hereford Police Male Voice Choir can also sing as well . Go on line and find them.
I guess being born and bred in Suffolk I am one of Saxons...but I still think this so g is brilliant!
Could be lucky and be a left over Briton .
Excellent choir and a great movie
A british song, about brave Welsh men.
... who are British.
As Americans we can claim to better Great Britain in many things but class and a love for tradition is not even close thank you so much for posting.
We are still the envy of the world in many things.🤤
Let the zulus come!!!! 💪🏻
Wonderful singing
I see here that one of the Zulus has decided to switch sides :D
Such a powerful song sung in Zulu! You can see and hear the Dragon of Wales fighting against incredible odds at Rourke's Drift!
Outstanding!

My friend Gordon...got me here......
Me and the boys after hearing we are 1% welsh
1% is enough
Ah, the *boys*
Are they the choir who sang with Charlotte Church for her rendition of Men of Harlech back in the late 90s?
Yes.
Spears all over the place in the bar
Hark, I hear the foe advancing
Barbed steeds are proudly prancing
Helmets in the sunbeams glancing
Glitter through the trees.
Men of Harlech, lie ye dreaming
See ye not their falchions gleaming
While their pennons gaily streaming
Flutter in the breeze.
From the rocks resounding
Let the war cry sounding
Summon all at Cambreais call
The haughty foe surrounding
Men of Harlech, on to glory
See your banner famed in story
Waves these buring words before ye,
"Britain scorns to yield!"
Mid the fray see dead and dying
Friend and foe together lying
All around the arrows flying
Scatter sudden death.
Frightened steeds are wildly neighing
Brazen trumpets loudly braying
Wounded men for mercy praying
With their parting breath.
See they're in disorder,
Comrades, keep close order
Ever they shall rue the day,
They ventured o'er the border.
Now the Saxon flees before us,
Victr'ry's banner floateth oe'er us,
Raise the loud exulting chorus,
"Britain wins the field!"
Stirring words written to this great music: "Don't you see their spear points gleaming".
Thank you for the lyrics ...................Stirring !!!
Mighty hard to beat the welsh

Beauitful song . . . but no need to race through it as here.
same tune as ar hyd y nos
Black
Hold your horses slow it down, to fast
God bless the mighty welsh dragon
This is the theme song of my old high school: Sydney Technical High School of Bexley NSW
