- To counteract the whispers of 'Swing Low' finding their way around the Welsh Capital, we arranged for a special treat for the Welsh fans outside The Yard on St Mary's street. Many thanks to Cor Meibion Male Voice Choir, Fizzi Events (www.fizzievents.co.uk) and to David Bridle videography (www.vimeo.com/bridle) Music by Chris Zabriskie.
There is just something magical when you hear Welsh male voices coming together it’s a unique and distinctive sound
A significant part of Tolkien's genius was his preternatural sensitivity to the music of language. One of his favourite languages was Welsh. Music is in the soul of Wales, to the enrichment of all the world.
JRR Tolkien (1892 - 1973) loved the Welsh language, describing Welsh as '…the senior language of the men of Britain. ' He gave Welsh-inspired names to many characters and places in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. To relive the magic of his books, visit these places with a connection to Tolkien's work
Diolch yn fawr.
He based the language of the elves, in the lord of the rings, on the Welsh language. .
@@boojay111that's a lovely thing to say. Ddiolch yn frawd.
It's 57 years since I walked up that street to an international match at the old Arms Park,. At age 81 in California, sadly, it's something I can never do again.
But that brought it all back!
Good for you hope you were happy. Listen to this often to be honest love this song (I'm English same as Scotland anthem) I'm 67shortly .HEAVEN
I dated a girl from Cardiff and we went to her local pub and chaps there started singing it gave me goosebumps their singing was so amazing!
Nothing on this planet can come close to the Welsh male choirs. I'm extremely proud of my coal mining and choral heritage.
My whole family on my father's side is Welsh! My Grandfather told about memories of men working in the fields in Malad, Idaho U.S. singing in Welsh.
No matter who wins the match, the Welsh will always win the singing!
Marvelous! I've loved Welsh singing ever since I saw the film "How Green Was My Valley" many years ago. I loved watching the crowd and seeing happy faces. Covid is robbing us of happy events like these. Thanks for posting.
@erzbet07 That's part of the point of "la maladie"
I’m not welsh, but I love and respect the country and the people and it always brings chills to my bones when I hear the welsh sing
Yes ! And I am Japanese ! Lol. 👍💜💜💜🐉🐲🎵🎶🎤🥁🏴🇯🇵
Agree 1000's 💫🙏goosebumps deluxe xxx
Im not either but this stirs me so i could cry with the sound
I am from the Welsh valleys and was pleased to see such lovely comments thank you all for your lovely response 😊
Wales is the best place I could ever have been born. I could hear the voices of the generations of mining communities shining through these men's voices. Cymru Am Byth.
urgulp p
Almost the same. It's the voices of slate-quarrying communities in my case.
diolch
I was born in wales but live in Devon now but still class myself as Welsh
IWAN! CYMRU AM BYTH ❤❤❤❤
God, I find these flash mob choirs so moving, so uplifting.
Welsh--the best singers ever!! Bread of Heaven!
Welsh voices are from heaven
Now that is what you call singing from the heart, it was beautiful
This was my mother's favorite hymn. We sang it at her funeral, at her request. A keg of brains and these guys would have made it incredible.
This isn’t uncommon for the Welsh - the last time I was in Scotland for an away game, a male voice choir broke out in a Scottish pub! They were appreciated by all!!
What a lovely story to hear ! Truly beautiful trait that they have !!! I'd love to experience it 1st hand someday soon in my life !
I was in a pub in Bridgend on international day many years ago, when, in came a big Scottish group with a guy playing our national anthem on the bagpipes. The place erupted, it was amazing 😎
Wish they had left it in Welsh! Sounds a whole lot better to a gaelic speaker…who doesn’t speak Welsh!
Sweetheart. You know you got Drumpfed.. Mmm. The twat wants a piece of my Mam. We'll see how it works
To me there is nothing more beautiful than a male voiced choir.
Well done. Lovely to see audience members joining in too. Some of my best memories have been singing with all my children and wider family. People should sing more (in Wales and England)
I had the pleasure many years ago to meet lovely Welsh fans in Glasgow and as a singer myself I has them singing for me with myself joining in great night great memories
That was my experience too in a Glasgow pub best night night ever
I had the pleasure of meeting some Welsh folks in Glasgow after a game the singing was fantastic I even joined in and it was fantastic
I have Scottish and Welsh ancestors, this is the first time I've heard something like this. Loved it!!
Beautiful Christian hymn! So well sung by those good men! God bless them!!
Christian hymn😂😂
@@ErictheGOATCantonaThe words - the heritage.
One of the finest and most moving hymns ever written, with that wonderful, memorable phrase, Bread of Heaven.
Can hardly wait till we can do things like this again!
I was invited to the RWC England v Wales at Twickenham by a good friend. There were many around us and after the anthems were sung at the start, an Englishman shook my hand and said ‘you Welsh can sing.’ When at the end Wales had won 25-28, he again shook my hand and said ‘you Welsh can sing and by god you can play rugby too’...
I have friends all over the world, but I never forget I'm welsh. Be proud of who you are. Your heritage is what definds you as well as your surroundings.
Maslows hierarchy of needs, dolls and Teddy bears. Id, ego and superego..
Hold on to your head.. And heart. X
As a proud Scot I find this almost as emotional as Flower of Scotland, Cymru rydd
I'd rather us scots had flowers of the forest as our national anthem
@@mooseylad - no. No dirges. Strong and rousing like Scotland the Brave or the Black Bear (Tunes of Glory). They set the blood coursing through the veins.
Most of us Welshmen know all the words to that Fabulous Anthem Flower of Scotland lol
My favorite hymn. How great to hear it sung by a choir of Welshmen.
I am English but I love you guys and your beautiful country.
I'm Irish American and I visited Wales a long time ago - thank you for bringing this magic to me here in the States!
I'm the daughter of a Welshman and the widow of a Welshman, (both from the same village amazingly enough as I met my husband in Yorkshire) and hearing wonderful Welsh singing always delights me, no matter when or where I hear it .
Hi phylis5
Wonderful voices! Was nice to hear the Welsh. My great grandparents were from Wales.
Goosebumps--the words are written on my heart- blessings to all from Tasmania
Love Wales and the Welsh people.
My Nan (from Ebbw Vale) had this played at her funeral. Always makes me cry.
Up the hammers....👌😉
What more can I say, just beautiful and brought a lump to my throat.
i am Irish and love the Welsh, their choirs and even their Rugby! Máith Libh~
Yes I agree
Nice and indeed great, to hear guys who sing so much in tune and who can intuit harmony
This made my cry. I posted elsewhere a comment that one of my favourite goosebumps memories is whilst out shopping in Cardiff on a Saturday afternoon whilst a student there. From the shopping centre my Mum and I could hear the Welsh voices singing at Cardiff Arms Park before the Rugby International. Would've been 86 or 87 I think. We stopped in our tracks to listen.
Im english ,have been coming to the valleys with my work over 30 years the people have never been anything other than kind and polite to me
Diolch 🏴
not in my birthplace north wales we dispise you..
Who ever visits our Valleys with a friendly face you'll be accepted and respected my friend. We do have some English families that's moved into our community in the Rhondda and they love it here, and they have adopted our ways of where strangers always say hello to one another. Its our normal thing here :)
Beautiful, inspiring and so emotional.. god there's nothing quite like Wales winning with 2 mins of game to go and bread of heaven reverberates around the stadium
Er there is...y dorf yn canu yn Gymraeg
I'm an Englishman, but can't help acknowledge that the Welsh have that unbeatable male voice chor
agreed....that was awesome
BGG; you must be joking! I've heard better singing coming from a pub!
@@williambunter3311 Yep, but not from an Englishman........ Give credit where it's due, and learn. We need our own English anthem, one we can all get behind and sing with the same passion as the Welsh and the Scots do. Billy Bunter was spherically challenged but definitely English; I wonder why you chose that handle, and can't appreciate passion for your own nation.
@@bgg4865 Oh c'mon Taffy, I love my nation, and I don't begrudge other people doing the same. I was referring to the football-style unmusicality of songs like Men of Harlech, together with the manufactured emotion that unaccountably goes along with its performance. Why do you feel you need a national anthem and the need to express your 'passion'? Emotion for its own sake is so ridiculous and immature. You wallow in it if you like, but me, I have a life to lead.
@@williambunter3311 I said I am an Englishman, and you call me Taffy? Emotion and passion are important to me; I am a proud Englishman. You go and earn your holiday in Spain or Trinidad, middle class Billy, while Taffy, Jock, Paddy and I compete on the sports field and combine against the world. And just for the record, Billy Bunter was hated by his school mates too.
BEAUTIFUL....! May we have more such MALE choirs in Europe - reviving our old christian hymns.
Group of Englishmen start singing. Welshman- "hold my beer"
Lmao 🤣🤣🤣
didn't notice that ....lol , hold my beer , then than happened , love it .
TheSmithersy ewe leave my mrs out of it BOYO!!!
It was a little 'convenient' . Good video tho
@TheSmithersy we shag 'em, you eat 'em , enjoy your next lamb roast.
i am a Brit but i love to hear the Welsh sing, they put their heart and soul into every note. Fantastic.
The Welsh are brits too you mean your English
Us Welsh are also Brits
No Welsh 😊😊😊😊😊😊
@@jackfarmer2004he missed the geography lesson that day🤣. Best wishes from Kildare 🇮🇪
@@MrPeteday1 you are Pete . But us English get so used to the celts denying that they are . 🏴🏴
I'm English but seeing/hearing this made me wish I was Welsh! I love a male voice choir and there are none better than the Welsh - made my eyes leak!
i just love the expression " Made my eyes leak" Oh! How delightfully appropriate!
ha! good pun!
LEAK !!! LOL.👍👍👍💜💜💜🎤🎶🎵🥁🐲🐉🐾🏴🇯🇵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎶🎶💕
Gives me the goosebumps. This reminds me of my childhood in Ystalyfera where the Welsh language is spoken and also sang frequently and heartedly. When we unfortunately moved to Newport, there was hostility to us as a family from the Swansea Valley. One of my favourite hymns from my childhood in the Swansea valley is Calon lan. Well done for singing so well. Arbennig o dad.
Calon lan is my favourite hymn and had at our wedding almost 40 years ago.
When I was a kid in Ammanford in the early sixties, our mam would take me and my brothers to the Sally Army every Friday night to sing hymns, we use to love it. Happy memories, seems so strange now, but we use to look forward to it, it was fun, it really was.
Such nice comments by English people about the Welsh. Total respect to you guys and gals. I was born in Cardiff and this is why I love the respect we show the opposition, when we attend rugby matches...win, lose or draw. Why can’t we start an epidemic and get the rest of the world infected with respect for other people and nations, regardless?
athena123,
I’m sorry that you’ve read such things from the news. I personally think it’s totally different when you’re pre and post match day.
I’ve never seen any violence or vile comments at a rugby game between Wales & England, or another rugby game and I think sometimes, the news fabricate the truth, just to sell newspapers, as let’s face it, most of the things on the news are literally ‘Bad press’.
I love the camaraderie at a rugby match. Please give it one more chance and go to a game, rather than read about it, it’s totally awesome?
Beautifully done, very inspiring and comforting. Fantastic part singing too.
A drink in our hands and a song in our lungs. We Are Welsh.
Of course we used to have coal running through our veins too.
Cymru Am Byth
I'm Irish and we're known for our voices, but the Welsh.....they're the best. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!! I'm in tears right now.
Better a drink in the belly and a song in the throat..... I may be English, but I know my priorities.
so true
Fabulous! Just what I needed. Bless you all!
Enjoyed this very much, being Welsh but live abroad, gave me a lot of hiraeth
Wss born in Wales. Welsh speaking. Married a half English man. Have lived in Africa for a long time. My husband sang in a Welsh Choir. His Dad was Welsh. I still phone my Sister every every day. 👍
Bloody Brilliant
Wonderfully stirring!!
We can sing and harmonise. It's a natural ability if you're Welsh. Best Anthem and best singing in the World.
Absolutely grand! Love it!
Nicely done gentlemen
Absolutely wonderful! Thank you!
Thank you 😁👍🎶❤I'm tearful listening, and half Welsh half Canadian 🏴🇨🇦Cymru Am Byth ✊🙏
Grabbed my heart from the start and ended up with tears. Love this hymn. Moreso, Cwm Rwnd.
I get it ! Even though I am Japanese !!! You guys are so passionate !!! Love Welsh ! 👍💜💜💜💜🎵🎶🎤🎵🥁🐉🐲🏴🇯🇵
Must have watched this a hundred times. Absolutely love Cwm Rhondda/Bread of Heaven , probably my favourite Hymn after Abide With Me , and I’m having both at my funeral. Just a shame I won’t be able to join in! ;) Nothing better than a Welsh Male Voice Choir , I could listen to them sing all day.
Beautiful!!!!
this needs to happen every game, with various choirs accross the city centre.
Just seeing this and crying my heart out!!! Da Iawn bois xxxxx
Beautiful. Thanks for posting.
Love the welsh hymns. Not to many youngsters singing along in the vid tho, really hope these welsh hymns dont die off
I agree w/ you ! 💜💜💜🐉🐲🎤🎶🎶🎵🎶🥁🏴🇯🇵
Don’t you worry.
We’ve got this. Our traditions won’t die.
Ik kom uit nederland maar mijn hart ligt in wales wat een prachtig land en volk ❤
I love this still after listening to it lots
What a fantastic place I live in. 🦊

Hello Maesteg boy here. Greetings to you across the pond.
Must be very lovely memories !!! I'd love to go visit Wales very soon ! Looong overdue my bucketlist wish !💜💜💜💜👍🐲🐉🎶🎤🎵🥁🏴🇯🇵
I truly think the best way to appreciate any person singing is without music and the BEST in the world without doubt are the welsh, especially these male voice choirs and this is a great example, no planning no conductor just an informal get together, now that is what I call entertainment, I live in Australia and I can feel passion from here, they certainly know how to inspire.
This bought a tear to my eye , as this was played at my mother's funeral , and she was english
Oh...wow ! I'm sorry for your loss ! 💜💜💜💜🎵🎶🎤🎵🥁🎶🐲🐉🎵🎶💜🎶🎵🎶🏴🇯🇵💕🐾
Brilliant thank you so much
I’ve got to say some lovely comments from other nations on here it’s very heart warming. Even the old enemy! 😂 only joking I can honestly say when ever I’ve ended up in the company of English rugby fans I’ve always had a bloody great time and been shown wonderful hospitality. 😊
Many moons since I had the honour to attend the game at arms park, the days of Welsh dominance. 60,000 breaking into song, in tune and all together is an out of this world experience, could almost make me believe in religion.
What do you mean by that !? You meant you felt god's presence in or with them !?
As being American with a mother born and raised in Welshpool this makes me proud! Crymu Am Bryth 🏴🏴🏴
Hey im from welshpool
Who was your family in welshpool
Near welshpool in Pontrobert
Yeah i know pontrobert very well not far from llanymynech
But iam in New York right now
Why I am I watching this, someone is always peeling onions, It must be that my Grand Father Windsor Morgan was born in Murtha Tydfil
spelt mytha wrong but
EDIT: edited cuz like a cocky twat i spelt spelt wrong HA! fml
It's Merthyr Tydfil
Lovely! Cwm Rhodda is surprisingly appropriate for a sporting anthem, too.
I'm Australian and I was very moved by this. Great job, fellas!
Diolch (thanks) Sean, see you in Japan mate.

Just wonderful.
Normally I hate, detest and loathe flashmobs. This was great. From NYC.
Voices for the soul, makes me get watery things every time in my eyes, and I'm English.
Beautiful, it gave me goose bumps ❤I'm English xxx
That wasn't a flashmob. That was Cardiff on a Match day.
Re: the rendition of "Swing Low", and at risk of coining a phrase, "they have an adequate Bass section, but they don't have any top tenors, that's for sure."
+Nostradormous e Surely the Welsh can do better than that
+Horatio Nelson (coolrunnings1021) I'm aware this was the next line in the film, but how much better than winning the singing and winning the match against the host nation 25 - 28 do you want?
+Nostradormous e I was only talking about the film haha sorry wasnt talking about this video like that. Sorry if you took it that way
I had to struggle quite hard to infer any offence at this.
Filmically, such a line was followed by the Welsh slaughtering their enemies, so the match kind of followed the script.
You didn't wish to rehash the embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Welsh, both from a Rugby and a choral perspective?
Apology accepted.
Losing as host nation, and getting knocked out before the semi-final has to be a bit humiliating.
Not to say unprecidented.
Last thing every night, before sleep. GREAT. Sheila Bridges
Greetings from New South Wales!
bloody fantastic
I am from Cornwall, my Dad was born in Porthcawl South Wales. My Mum was born in Ballymena, Northern Ireland. My Brother lives in the Republic. I guess our blood is Celtic through and through
My Grandfather has Italian blood so the six nations is always a challenge !
Personally, I always sing for the Welsh no matter what
Kernow Bys Vycken
Great song and sang beautifully 4 countries make up this great nation of ours ,swing low everyone
This is so beautiful xx
Just fantastic.
I expect the little singers of "Swing Low"(nice as it was,)sloped off when the bass harmony kicked in from Cor Meibion .
.Lovely harmony..Effortless singing.......Well lubricated .
The best place I ever heard this sung was a the old Cardiff Arms Park, in 1978, During the Cardiff v Barbarians Match. the atmospherics were superb. made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and I'm English.
That's very nice & special for Welsh people to hear from an English person , I'm sure ! 👍💜💜💜💜🎵🎶🎤🎵🥁🐲🐉🏴🇯🇵🐾💕
As a male voice choir singer I can tell you - it doesn’t take much to get us singin’. Afterglow (songs in the pub after a choir show) are the best because no-one is expecting a free performance of Gwahoddiad or Calon Lan. I joined the choir after attending the funeral of a Welsh neighbour who was in a choir and they sang as the coffin went through the curtain. Blew the cobwebs from my soul
