    Writing a book on this as I 'lost' my 24 year son, 'out of order' death due to opioids and he was energized by them, and frequently had Tachycardia, I believe I know why, but we had a very exhausting, stressful four years following a clavicle break from a skiing accident. Some people have the effect he did with diaphoresis, feeling happy, energized, and up all night. My heart is completely and entirely broken for just over two years now my life is forever changed by his loss of life. I am looking forward to your video Doc Snipes. Learning all I can.

    Have been waiting for a presentation by you on addiction as we are in an epidemic. I work as a CADC and am a student of history and addiction was terribly overlooked as a moral failing by many in the field (including doctors) for so many years. Knowing a doctor who is very plugged in to the city I live in and she is on many boards and foundations, she shocked me when she said doctors are trained so little on addiction when they’re in school. It’s like those who have SUD know more than the professionals. The word recovery has entered into the mainstream the past couple years. Thank you for your presentation :)

    EXCELLENT!! Information, it’s very important to share this information to the family members of the person in treatment, unfortunately the lack of information from the family causes the person on recovery to return to the addiction(s) -
    A huge emphasis to encourage FAMILY members to receive treatment and follow ups not for a 2 weeks- I will say for a whole year , it’s like a school year we are just learning the treatment and supports … ITS IMPOSSIBLE to learn it in two weeks , when you have to manage all other responsibilities at home .

    Very interesting and I’m glad I listened. I am curious about mental health implications in recovery from addictions. I’m seeing what I think is psychotic and paranoid behavior and suspect it is related to withdrawl from heavy marijuana use. The connection of mental health and addiction seems so critical. I am overwhelmed. This video has been very enlightening. Thank you

  • @grid462

    In trying to understand compulsive behaviour rather than impulsive behaviour ie behaviours in a push factor rather than a pull factor as i understand it. Trying to manage as best as can but I don't know if that 180 motivation drive has comparable impacts in withdrawal. If to consider the suggestions as a vaguely relevant guide or if it's actually totally different and not applicable?

    should we develop new associations or learn to dissociate existing ones?

    • @DocSnipes
      @DocSnipes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on if you associations are ones that you were involved with in the addiction....if so, that is often necessary as old friends may be triggers. May be worth speaking with a professional counselor about your specific facts.

    Can relate to the pornography one.
    I was exposed at around 1st grade
    I then got more exposure around 6th grade and middle school and that's when it became a problem to the point where my mom would ask what I was watching (in the same room). (She shamed me 2x when she found out)
    When I was in highschool I'd lock my room, even then it doesn't mean I'm watching pornography.
    One thing that happened that is distinct is when I started talking to a girl, my brain was only thinking of her. Even when I was looking at lewd pictures I wasn't turned on by them because I was talking to her. I'm just hoping that one day I can truly get married and my issues of pornography will be behind me.
    I seriously have a longing for a relationship that my testosterone gets all over the place and immediately pictures honeymoon phases.

    what I'm about to ask has nothing to do with addiction so I'm sorry if I'm wasting everyone's time. However in one of your videos you said that balance between neurotransmitters and in general is very Important and too much of anything is just as bad as not enough. However if you compare astrocytes of mice with astrocytes of a man. man's astrocytes produce significantly more calcium than mice astrocytes and have much greater calcium wave speed. also human astrocytes have double calcium wave and I'm not sure but I think mice have only one. (at least that is what I read in PDF) but too much calcium can be quite dangerous. so how does human body adapt to this. does it mean that things that either process calcium or remove it increased also to accommodate the larger amount of calcium generated. Like for example Calbindin allows calcium to be processed to the next stage. but then too much calbindin can down regulate p53 which means if a cell becomes cancerous cancer cell will not die there fore it could felicitate cancer. however another calcium binding protein S100A2 increases levels of p53 so if they are in balance it should be fine (but would it?) and since they both are calcium binding proteins together they should be able to transfer calcium safely to next stage where other interactions would take place. this is just an example I don't know if this would work like that would other factors be involved would it be entirely different system all together. but the bottom line is that if you increase one factor and then increase another factor that keeps the levels of the first factor either in check or allows it to be exchanged safely will this make a whole system safe without engendering the body because of overexpression of the first one? or would it actually make it somehow worse? because if later is the case then how can evolution happen in a first place?
