    Biggest upgrades you can make are:
    - Switch the default GOAT stabs for some decent aftermarket ones, like lubed Durock v2s
    - Don't use any of the Glorious plates, buy and install the aftermarket FR4 plate by AVX works. It fits the PCB perfectly and is compatible with any brand of stabs. It looks, feels and sounds great.
    - Apply the gasket upgrade as shown in this video, you may use the extra gasket strips which comes with the keyboard
    - Install a thin layer of PE foam between the PCB and the plate, and optionally remove the stock plate foam that came with the board
    After that, using decent lubed switches and thick keycaps will provide you with a pleasant typing sound and experience.

    Great looking board, and the sounds are fantastic!
    I got mine with the brass plate, and so far I love it. The only complaints I have are that the stabs, even when taken care of a bit, still aren't great, and that the cable that plugs into the PCB in the bottom doesn't line up very well when you're trying to put the board back together so it gets pinched if you aren't careful.

  • @talonclark1236

    I didn't add any screws back in other than the diffuser screws and it gave a keyboard a nice bounce with the poly plate and no pcb or case foam. • @saab35draken39
      @saab35draken39 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The pc plate makes the sound a bit louder and less high pitched due to it being softer personally i prefer alu over pc and brass

    • @brianlam5847
      @brianlam5847 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I were you, I would personally get a fr4 plate from AXCworks since the polycarbonate will bend your pcb.

  • @UpgradingAsUsual
    @UpgradingAsUsual 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    From what I have experienced, the typing experience overall is wholly improved after changing from the PC plate to the Aluminium plate with the gasket mod. This is because the PC plate has issues with bowing and the consistency around the board is way off all over the place. Sure it does sound better, but only in the middle. The outer keys sound much higher pitched than the middle and it ruins the entire experience. Of course, this is all corrected with the aluminium plate. This should also apply to the brass plate, too. I will however, try to sand down the stab holes on the PC plate to give them space to move around which might help. Stock PC plate is a huge no no for me at the moment.
    I am going to attempt a new type of gasket mod which I will update you here in the near future. I have applied a similar mod in another type of enclosure (nothing to do with keyboards and on a much larger scale) in the past with huge success. If I could apply it on a smaller scale, the result should be the same. If the mod proves to be successful, I will update you here. Back off, man. I'm a scientist.

    Does the thicker gasket actually work? Logically I would assume that as the case and top plate are sooo tight together any gasket you put in there is going to be squeezed to a completely flat hard state…

  • @marginalmeaning

      Oh man I got mine a few days ago and the first thing I did was take it apart about put some lubed Gat black ink v2 stabs in there - but the first thing I noticed was how good the pads still were. I had I only seen videos about how gnarly they are when you open the board up - now they include a big bag of gaskets also. And a big bag of screws. Little off topic, but I didnt strip any screws with a size 0/00 PH. PH1 seemed a little big contrary to everyone's suggestions. It may just be ifixit in particular though.

      @timfederwitz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JaeyouPark It took a little longer than a week to arrive, but I now have it and applied the mods. A couple things: The version I was sent actually already has pads under the stock stabs. Also, the stabs were *heavily* lubed! To the point that the spacebar wouldn't work properly. I had to take them off anyway to clean them and relube them, and that's when I noticed the pads under the stabs as stock now. Also, I purchased new PCB and case foam from StupidFish (stupidfish.design/products/gmmk-pro-case-and-plate-foam) in the 3mm size (the case foam is 2mm and has cutouts for the hotswap sockets). I feel like this foam is an additional upgrade from the stock. Finally, I am using the GMK Godspeed Apollo keycaps set and loving the build. Thanks again for posting these mods!

    Thanks for sharing the mods! I did the PC plate, standoff removal, and stabilizer upgrades to Durock V2s. I also removed the case and plate foam.
    I didn’t have D65 gaskets, so I went with a triple layer of stock gaskets on the bottom case, removed the diffusers, removed the PCB screws, and only used 4 case screws, lightly screwed in.
    Still a bit muted with linears but the added sound and flex is there, if not a bit unstable.
    Do the D65 gaskets provide a deeper sound over the stock gaskets or is it just mostly for the flex and feel?

    Does anyone else ever just want to do a build for the fun of it. But not many instock boards. Want to pick one up just to a build. You can get an fr4 plate for this guy now too. Not sure if it any good though.

      The original bottom gaskets was compressed below the alu lip around them haha so wasn't doing anything! I gotta say, the knob feels 12/10 premium :)

    what are standoffs? was this just a way to disassemble the board?

    • @JaeyouPark
      @JaeyouPark  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      standoffs are these little metal piece positioned between plate and PCB so you can screw the plate to the pcb. I generally remove them to increase flexibility and improve acoustics

    Very nice, the mods did wonders! And speaking of the d65, kbd just restocked. I know it's not a direct comparison, but you would recommend the gmmk pro over the d65? Purely on sound and typing feel (as I don't really mind either form factor)

    As im watching this and needed to replace my gaskets on my board and they didnt sound the best but gladly glorious has replacements you can buy -
    Gmmk pro build
    Polycarbonate plate
    Akko cream blues - will upgrade to the new ones
    a nice thick foam pad inside
    3 layers of tape with even a pe foam from stupid fish foam
    and eventually going To get the stupid fish foam plate replacement soon also Durock v2 stabs 👌
