Zheng Peifeng made the best of a rare opportunity given to him in a World Tour event. He played with determination and a strong will to win in spite of the injury. A rising star indeed! Congratulations!

Hah. But no need to be so crucial. With this new ITTF system, for the Chinese national team, having more good unknown players participating tournaments is indeed beneficial. They will be able to eventually occupy a big portion of the top 50 and a majority of the seeds in tournaments/world championship. ... Then a new ranking system will come out.

yuting, Excellent question. There might be several reasons such as top class coaching and training, winning tradition, self-confidence, and the ability to perform under pressure. Yes, under huge pressure. In short, if a player fails to win or does not meet expectations when given opportunities, he will have fewer or very scarce future chances. Let's just talk about Zheng Peifeng for now. Zheng is a solid player even though not among China’s elite. He has had wins against Ma Long and Xu Xin in intra-team competitions since becoming a CN First Team member back in 2013. He was a bronze medalist in the 2016 China National TT Championships and ranked 11th and 14th in the Chinese Super League last two seasons respectively. From 2014-2017, however, he was given NO opportunity to play in a World Tour event. That is FOUR full years of no international play. With the new coaching staff, some lesser known players are allowed to play in World Tour events. But two other younger pen-holder players (Xue Fei and Xu Haidong) are increasingly getting more opportunities than him. Zheng knew the Bulgaria Open and Czech Open were his chances. What a performance he gave! He played better under pressure. Hopefully his wins opened doors for him to play in future international events. Those are just my brief observations and thoughts. Any critique is welcome.

I remember Zheng Peifeng from the world junior championships in 2011. After that he didn't have much international presence, but I noticed he had a number of good results in recent superleagues and I was hoping he could get a chance to play some bigger tournaments. I thought his results last week at the Bulgaria open were already good and it's great to see him make the most of his opportunity here at the Czech open. Great to see that he didn't give up after all these years (and he's still only 22!).

Zheng was put on the spot and he did not dissappoint! The national team is away, but he showed that this didnt mean it was going to be easy for every one else. He displayed a lot of his techniques beautifully. His form, strong RPB, footwork, redirection, spin, power, and consistency. Mentally strong. But entertaining to watch. Hope to see more.

This was the best TT Marcos has ever played. He was in incredible form - at another level. However his inconsistency (missing easy returns and weak opening or 3rd ball) undid all the incredible points he won. Had he been a bit more consistent and rounded (i.e not missing easy ones or producing unwarranted weak returns on not so difficult situations) he could have easily won this as he was really dominant in the spectacular rallies. I really wanted him to win. In any case, this is one of the best TT I have ever seen from a non-Chinese player.

No! Why do you think the Chinese mostly converted to shakehand grips? In fact, during the 1980s, penholders inside China outnumbered shakehand players 7 to 3. But the overall battle outcome was 7 - 3 in favor of the latter mentioned. Even twice WTTC Single champion Jiang Jia Liang never won the Chinese National Title. Another great penholder Chen Long Can did but not Jiang.

The bad thing about the Chinese National Team is despite this win, though he'll still catch the eye of the coaches, he's still 2nd tier Team A player, I remember around early July when they had the Team A qualification and relegation trials, he's one of the lowest ranked players in the team A, he had to play the round robin trials and he qualified as 2nd out of 20 from the lower rungs of Team A and upper rungs of Team B, and thus he retained his place in the team.
Xue Fei who's obviously worse than him is treated by the coaches as the future of penhold yet continues to play badly, was taken to the Asian Games, yet Peifeng who's just 22, 3 years older than Xue Fei still has to rise up the ranks which is incredibly difficult in the Chinese team.
And in trying and trying to force his way up, he may later become stale and lose the fight in him and become another training partner.
Or does the coaches think he's too old, Lin Gaoyuan is 23, a year older than him, and is regarded as the future apart from Fan Zhendong, Lin Gaoyuan is better than him though, but Give this guy a chance, they won't, we'll see when next, maybe next year the tournament they'll allow him play

That's true, it's just sad to see talent die, and not just him, but millions of other players that could have achieved great things.
Imagine if Harimoto was playing for China, he'll be playing cadet opens now and junior opens and spend all his time practising techniques rather than actual match play that's helping him and made him a more formidable player

    • @hillsideonly
      @hillsideonly 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Athe Win
Yeah, very correct, both mind, spirit and techniques are just deficient in his game, and Wang Hao is his coach, I've never liked Wang Hao as his coach, no experience coaching, maybe just one or two years and suddenly a national team coach due to politics and Guoliang's influence back then, just came into the team, took FZD as student, don't know what exactly he's taught him and FZD is no penholder, instead of him taking up the penholders and teaching them to world class level then every one would know you're doing a great job, he keeps hiding under the performances of FZD, if Liu Guoliang, Qin Zhijian or Ma Lin were still in the team, they as penholders could have improved Xue Fei

zpf uses hurricane hao2, which is exhaustive and strength dependent for creating heavy spinning, arc wise is less curvy . it is time to consider a better weapon that performs in equilibrium.

      Reinaldo Pessoa
Yeah, Peifeng plays like Wang Hao a lot, He just needs to make his forehand deadly,
What's coincidental is it's his consistent backhand that's helped him in matches where opponents have tried to exploit his backhand, but his forehand isn't deadly enough like the typical Chinese forehand

      HRY HRY
Won't really bother people that much since the Japanese and Koreans have won a few, if China had won everything hitherto, they'll have been a lot of whining and dissing.
But that's a good point, Timo hasn't been playing , Dima isn't in form, I've always thought Freitas was a really good player and I still do, today I thought he had the match after the third set but alas it didn't happen, Franziska is good, will see more from him,
Japan and Korea are improving a lot, so it's even harder for the Europeans now, rather than in the past where it was just the Chinese people wanted to beat, now before you beat the Chinese, you gotta pass through So many other good players.

    • @benthekeeshond545
      @benthekeeshond545 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      HRY HRY,
Why? Because the other players are better or more prepared, that is why they won. To be fair, if the European players can get by the Chinese National Team, they usually won everything. The main obstacle is the Chinese National Team. May the best team and players win.

sadly it was kind of over after the first set. at least in my mind marcos needed it. in realite though marcos played great. he put up a great fight and a great show for the croud. too bad he kind of got somewhat inconsistent towards the end. fengs game was barely noticable, at least to me. he basically won because he started to adapt to marcos' serves. that was the breaking point during set 4-5. also great backhands from feng towards the end. wp on both of them

Zheng never dominated here as Freitas was actually playing very well. Some great shot linkage there. Both player tried to pin the other to the backhand corner and rip cross court to the open forehand. In open play, both players can be lethal. Zheng’s short game is not as good as Freitas, but what won it for Zheng was his slow, spinny forehand loop return of serve into Freitas’s near backhand. Nothing spectacular but it’s these small things that count.

Freitas is actually much better than this Chinese player. He got lucky to win that match

      Yeah right...
      I don't think so.
He lost quite easily & is more experienced than opponent.

Shane Lawson yeah right. That’s because you’re stupid. He won quite easily? Freitas beat himself, that’s about all you can say for that match

Well, whether he's better or not, that's not for me to say but you need to remember Zheng Peifeng had a tear or strain in his pectorals, he couldn't play powerfully on his forehand, didn't even bother moving to the forehand many times, couldn't smash with power, and was reduced to his RPB.
Though I get what you say, Freitas undid himself, I think Zheng Peifeng injury made him slow down the pace of the match, play more backhand rallies with freitas and play into freitas body, as freitas while thriving in the high speed rallies, freitas made some easy unforced errors, he isn't good at the backhand flick but he went for it, missed a few and he stopped playing aggressively, I thought he had the match in his hands too.

      The scoreboard is what counts...
& this chinese player had pectoral injury.
He would win regularly against this idiot.
& Uchiha Dayne ... YOU are stupid... not me.

In my opinion Zheng is hiding his serves , serving illegally most of the time

most of the comments were blamed to Zheng, however Freitas doesn't play well to keep his motivation in set 4/5 as he did inset 2/3. So, don't say anything to Zheng because Freitas is a loser by himseft

Zheng Peifeng => illegal server => illegal winner (feat. unqualified referee)

Zheng Peifeng's forehand is so week in a rally, no power at all.

Probably because his right chest muscle was hurt. Check his first 4 games with Liam Pitchford, before he got hurt.

His style looks perfect... just needs to further develop forehand strength.
