True, I met a japaness amateur league player, after watch this match, he was saying something like 'this game represents passion and dream of TT players' and he will get a copy of it to study afterward. I mean, I'm not a player at all, but the fact I can even feel a little of what he's trying to state out there. The last two sets are beautiful game, both side keeps pushing the other one to their limits and stay positive, that side edge ball at 9-9 was wonderful sportsmanship form both of them. GREAT GAME
I watched it, right there screaming my head off in the spectator seats, a lot of people wanted in to see a european beat Xu Xin

Xu Xin had to dig deep into bag of his tricks but managed to come up with a few.

John Yeo you know I can win a match with 11:9 11:9 11:9 11:9, and you can take 11:1, 11:2, 11:3 games but anyway lose a match. So it’s 50 points of winners and 69 points of losers

Franziska's forehand smash is bloody powerfull and fast if Xu Xin's forehand is slower and spinnier
Franziska should learn to using his forehand more active. His backhand is wonderful but forehand isn’t like that. If he get it he can be #1
Patrick deserves second place, he did so much better against xu xin than wang chu qin
Xu Xin said exactly that in an Interview. He was good in shape but couldn't be helped that many balls where beyond his limits.

Xu Xin has a mentality of entertaining that gave him such incredible comeback.
Franziska had an outstanding tournament. When the match was on the line, the XUperstar kept calm and just had something extra to move ahead. Credit to both players.

This mat Left me sitting on the edge of my seat biting my fingernails. And when XX won that match, I jumped up in relief. Crazy match and patrick played extremely well and his win over fzd was probably not a fluke
I don't understand why XX pushed almost every short service from Franziska back instead of attacking it with his rpb flick. Normally he attacks much more with his over the table backhand flick

Looking back from 2021, this is still the best game I've watched since 2019. Both players brought out the best in each other.
Came expecting just another Xu Xin match. Left with incredible admiration for Patrick Franziska. What a match!
Xu Xin has never suffered so much FH counterattack blast in a single match. Franziska shows a textbook on how to deal with the most intimidating topspin in the world, and he is the most progressive player in 2019.
Not many people in the world can just smash Xu Xin's topspin back at him!
I read all other comments just to reach at this one. That is exactly what troubled Xu Xin much and I was pretty sure that Franziska will win, but Xu Xin is mentally so so strong that he kept believing in his topspins and reduced the height of his topspins , which became tough to counter for Franziska, moreover Xu Xin started to play touch shots more often rather than just picking up the ball first until or unless he was able to hit a hard topspin first.

incredible match! Xu xin won because of his experience & mental toughness. Franziska couldn't hold his nerve at the very last moment. But a great tournament for franziska definitely. He needs to continue hard working to challenge the top Chinese on regular basis. May be next time he will win. Who knows!

Super match! Patrick played his best and came within a point to win. Xu didn’t play his best game and had to fight thru bad luck, and the number 1 player in the world overcame his obstacles and showed why he’s the best right now. Match shows that anyone at this level can win if they have luck and a mental edge.

This was an absolute insane match quite on paar with the match some years ago from Ma Long vs ZJK in Austria in Schwechat(2012?). Seems like the new training of Franz pays off he is less injured and plays much much better or let's say he can tap his abilities due to less injuries better. So much power and reaction from Franz, but also the creative play which breaks rythm of opponent much like ML. For years I have been saying he hasn't fullfilled his potential yet , but I hope this match has shown him any everyone else he can compete with the Chinese on their level.

5 minutes of play even after 6 sets... man I knew I was in for some good stuff. But this was like a final match tbh. Both players displayed top notch level of skills. My stomach was upset earlier but now I am feeling better thanks to this game
