    I just bought a garage kept 94 ZX11 2 weeks ago for $1750. It was an awesome deal! The bike sat for three years. It ran but didn't idle. Only has 11k miles. All I had to do was clean the tank out from old gas, remove the carbs and clean them. Did a bench sync, change all fluids. changed the plugs. The bike runs freaking awesome now. People are shocked that the bike is a 94 because it is so clean and in excellent shape. Hard to find deals like this one.
    Thinking about removing the baffles now. But... a little worried about being too noisy. This is a no going back project.

      Yes... but. First I would do it because it makes riding so much more enjoyable with this model.
      2nd, there is going back to a degree. It wouldn't be that difficult to find stock cans from someone who did a 4-1 upgrade or did a slip on up grade on their exhaust.
      The only downside I think is perhaps what the neighbors think when you start your bike stone cold. I ride every once in awhile without ear plugs and it's ok. But I have been riding with ear plugs for 5 years anyway, and it sounds fantastic with them in and very throaty aggressive either way.
      Also, perhaps while end caps are off, and you have full access to the back muffler chamber, it could theoretically be possible to screw in some sort of a threaded wider diameter tube back into the area that was broken off. I'm not saying it would be easy and straight forward, probably trial and error stuff. But perhaps it would be possible to re insert a tube there which would therefore force the exhaust back to the original routing.

    Hi there, I have Kawasaki ZZ-R 600 1994. I did exactly the same as shown on video. The sound now is great! :) A lot of thanks for DIY's video.

      Excellent! Yes, I love the way the bike sounds. I would never go back to stock, and if I got another ZX6E it's the first thing I'd do to it (again).

    How long did it take you to break the inner welds ? I have a zx4r I’m on that part I keep wiggling it but it won’t come loose

    • @greenmagicman8114
      @greenmagicman8114  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It took a while. Maybe 15 to 30 minutes. It really has to be kind of violently moved around. I would say to break those inside welds, it’s definitely doable, but not the most fun thing I’ve ever done.

    Hey. Do you have a problem with engine power after 8000 rpm or with valves after this exhaust mod? I want to do this modification in my motorcycle but I'm afraid of it.

    • @greenmagicman8114
      @greenmagicman8114  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      i have not had any issues with power. I don't typically spin it out past 10,000 rpms, so I could see if there's any issue there but I don't think so.

    I just did a shorter 5 miles ride without earplugs, to see what it's really like in full force.
    Idle sounds just terrific, up to 3000 rpm mostly is great excepting certain load / throttle openings after 2500.
    Certainly by 3000 and on to 5000 rpm it's no fun. It's like being SCREAMED at by your boss, with the screamings not letting up and laced with linguistical F Bombs (You can ask how I can compare - the latter happened to me this summer. In fact the boss screaming at me was more annoying and worse, but the pipes no plugs ARE annoying and not 'fun').
    After 5000 rpm it's cool and fun again - even without ear plugs.
    But it's a raucous party, man. Like an "Animal House" toga party, again where shit gets broken. This little parlor trick is definitely louder than an aftermarket can or 4-1 system, and probably as loud as a chopped shorty aftermarket 4-1 setup.
    I think I can state if you accept and undertake this mission and you are not an 'earplug guy', you will become an 'earplug' guy. I've ridden with plugs anyhow for probably the last 2+ years, and it's great fun with the plugs in.
    But I can further state you WILL get hearing loss without plugs doing this little trick. So please be advised.
    And no, I wouldn't go back to stock. I like it far too much. And I do appreciate the increased car awareness. If I had another stock ZX6E bike I'd drill 'em!

  • @FearTalamh

    You can get a 12" drill extension and a 1" bit and just drill it out. Use a shop vac to suck out all the shavings. 5 minutes, done

    Hey Clark. Well, the pipes look almost exactly the same. I think better. The sound is the best. I love the sound from the exhaust and grin every time I start it up. Stock pipes on the E are awful - like a tiny tinny sewing machine. To each their own though. Enjoy the ride!

    I have a 1999 ninja ZX6 E7... in advance i apologize for the paragraph,this is my first bike and have
    been trying to get research on this zx6e. its hard to find info on this
    exact bike and was wondering if you could try to steer me in the right
    direction or give me websites or anything where i could ask about info
    for this bike. i always end up with zx6r which is completely
    different..... it has 90-100 pounds of compression in all
    cylinders, needle and seats need to be cleaned and or replaced. i set
    the floats, at about 70 mph i run at around 5800 -6000 rpms. valves and
    piston tops are carboned up in which i have been running seafoam thru a
    few tanks of gas. i can fire the bike up and drive it and after sometime
    its like cylinder 3 floods out and then i have issues of it idleing
    like it should and having troubles with keeping it running at stop
    signs.keep in mind i have cleaned out the pieces in the carbs and the
    carbs themselves. the kid put a k&n air filter on the bike and put a
    bunch of drill holes in the air box cover top and made 2 big cuts in
    it. and seems like he had took the baffle out of the exhaust....now with
    that being said i looked and it still has stock jets in it, do i need
    to re-jet the carbs? i mean i have changed spark plugs and put new reed
    gaskets in it because they were torn up, i have changed the oil 2 or 3
    times and after i bought the bike i put about 1500-1700 miles on the
    bike with the idling issue and it dying out. im always messing with the
    manual idle knob. im at wits end and not sure what to do. if you could
    help me out i would be so happy........like i said they cut and drilled
    holes in the airbox cover top and tore the baffles out, and no matter
    what i do i run rich.

      Have you also looked at the electrical side of things? Perhaps you are not having a strong spark? Do you have any loose connections on the plug wires to the spark plugs or the coils? I had a significant problem with mine there. I had major idling problems, and near overheating at stop signs as well. Remember electrical current is 'lazy' and will try to ground out of any hole or cut in those wires to the motor or frame etc... and you will loose your strong spark. Fuel won't get burned enough etc...

    • @Chris-too-
      @Chris-too- 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Green Magic Man yes my spark is weak, I have the motor tore out now going to go over the valves and such to get my compression back. I will try to check my voltage and all my grounds.

    • @greenmagicman8114
      @greenmagicman8114  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check the coils are good. The plug wires will pull out from them when you unscrew the black plastic holder. I had a corroded post / spike in the there that the wires 'spear' into. I swapped in a used coil and have been golden ever since. I do have a set of spare coils. But one has that corroded spear and I don't think is best installed anywhere. I bought 8mm copper core hypathalon plug wire from O'Reilly's auto. Don't get the shitty carbon core car auto wire. I bought 3 feet I think for $4 or something silly like that and chopped up my own wires and replaced them all. That helped me a ton too and is super easy to do.

      +Green Magic Man alright, I might as well replace the wires, being that they are cheap. your a big help ty

    did you change your jetting I own a zx6e 1999 all stock I own ed a 03 r1 for three years 165 mph no thanks I'm looking for a zx11 but they are tough to find

    • @greenmagicman8114
      @greenmagicman8114  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI Clark. I rode an R6 and absolutely hated it. Awful bike, worst / least fun moto I've ever ridden.
      Anyway, no I did not re-jet the carbs. The main jets and needles are still bone stock N1VC needles and Keihin 140 mains, 35 pilot jets. I have spare stock jets and (4) 132 Dynojets I've not tried out.
      AND I would like to state here - my bike runs better with the exhaust gutted. YMMV. But, it starts quicker, stronger, better, and idles off the choke 10x faster. It pulls at all RPMs - I don't detect a difference from before at all. But it certainly pulls cleaner at very low rpms, like 1500 and give it gas it tachs up smoother than before.

      Thanks for the comment, I appreciate that :)
      I did not change the jets, they are the stock N1V1 needles and stock jets. The bike frankly runs better this way, I can't specifically say why. Instead of having to leave the choke 'on' for 2-3 minutes and delicately decrease it or the engine might die, I can get it off choke almost immediately and it will hold a solid idle very quick when started cold.

      I have filmed a full rev range throttle with 2 cameras and a pro microphone for when the bike was stock baffles / exhaust. I have been intending to replicate the setup exactly with the de-baffled system and post up a side by side comparison with audio dB (decibel) readings and the tach rev onscreen I filmed. Just haven't gotten around to it but I should.

    become a member of that site. I'm the same name there, and we can PM and you can post the problems in the ZZR600 forum. There are some really really good ZX6E mechanics there that have helped me.
    Holes in the airbox does not sound like a good thing to me. A K&N filter is ok, I thing that's what I have in the stock airbox. do you have 'afterfiring' - what people call backfiring - where the exhaust pops on de acceleration?

    • @Chris-too-
      @Chris-too- 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      alright I will check out the forum. and yes after I polished the seats in the carbs I put it back together and I get backfire after I let off the throttle I think it's more when it comes back to normal idle, when I hold the idle about 4000 rpms it has small popping.

    • @Chris-too-

      I do not have overheating issues, actually my bike doesn't even reach quarter heat on the temp gauge. even after riding it for hours.

    • @greenmagicman8114
      @greenmagicman8114  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds rich then. Do you also smell fuel? Typically my bike runs cool too, about 1/4 to 1/3 max range when all is right. But when it was having electrical / firing issues, sitting at stop lights after 1-2 of them, it would sometimes go up to halfway and even a tiny bit more which is alarming on these bikes.

    • @Chris-too-
      @Chris-too- 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Green Magic Man yea the bike does run rich, there was only once or twice that my bike hit half way on the temp gauge. seems to me that my connection somewhere is loose

    Scruffmaster, there was an excellent site that is down, and numerous (old) members have been trying to get it back. There is one person who has all the data and won't hand it over.
    The second best site is www.zzr-international.co.uk In Europe and Japan our bikes are called the ZZR600 and NOT to be confused 2003 and 2004 was the short named American ZZR600 which was also the "E" or ZX6-E bike. I know the problems with confusing the ZX6-R, it's annoying.

      Yeah, but this cost about nothing or nothing if you have the tools already and is a fun DIY project. You are either into DIY / mods yourself or not. It's not for everyone. I will state again though, my buddies CBR 954RR (or whatever it's proper name is) with a Yoshimura 4into1 exhaust did not sound as good as this one. He lamented that to me, he was a little bummed out. So I think that's pretty cool. It does sound really really good. Loud and throaty with great burbles and lift throttle barks and the occasional pops. And ALSO, you know what? I would be willing to bet this mod is a lot faster to do. You have to unbolt a lot of stuff to get a new 4-1 exhaust in there, I think this bike is worse than others.
