    I’ve got a tip for the frame sliders. Take a look at the bolts that are used! Go for some bolts that can break off quite easily, this way in a slide the sliders can do it’s job and if it gets caught on something it will simply break off instead of cracking the frame. Crashed my bike twice so far, one time with a low sider and once a highsider. The frame slider saved my expensive exhaust and some plastics. With my other crash the framslider got caught and broke off and ruined some plastics but luckily not the frame!

    The frame slider thing also depends a lot on the crash, if you lay her down in a parking lot the frame sliders will save your fearings (that's what I usually thought of when thinking about frame sliders) but in a high speed crash it could be more beneficial for the fearings to absorb the impact instead of frame sliders directly giving it to the frame (as you mentioned).

      100%. For me it's about some low speed nonsense happening or dropping it. If I'm crashing at 80mph+ the bike will be the least of my concerns. Went in to get gas on a windy day and my shit blew over. Sliders saved my farings.

    Great video, couple points;
    Bar ends are just as useless. We only put those on to be legal, Vibrations are the issue. Even a smoother 4 banger vibrates enough that unless you're putting around at 2k rpm, theyre useless you shoulder check on the road anyway, especially on a bike so you really don't need mirrors unless you wanna wilfully neglect those red and blues.
    Double bubble;
    Unless you're full tuck it's worse. the wind is directed into your face with a double bubble. If you're only racing it or making quick canyon runs sure go for it, double bubble on the highway is awful unless you have a very short torso.

    • @Daniel-dj7fh
      @Daniel-dj7fh ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'd recommend the frame sliders unless you're planning to ride really fast. Because they are more likely to save your bike from drops, but on long slides it could cause your bike to flip (don't @ me on that, might also not happen just a luck thing).
      I wouldn't get levers unless you really can't ride with the stock ones yet, maybe after a year in or two you could. Because the chances that you drop your bike early on is way higher than later on (depending on how you ride), and if you get new fancy levers throw the bike down you kinda wasted money.
      Maybe put the money aside on your next set of tires. Tires from 2019 are (they say, 7 years) good for another 3 years unless they're already worn down.

    • @Daniel-dj7fh
      @Daniel-dj7fh ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe also look out for what type of slider you get, one which has the ability to bend when crashing is better than one which is stiffly mounted to the frame. Because the impact will either directly go into the frame or get absorbed by the sliders construction.

    Frame sliders are such a debate because crashes are so unpredictable. Long sliders are good for garage tip overs, but will send your bike for a tumble at speed. The short sliders are practically useless unless you low side with some good speed, although less likely. Or having none just means nothing to get caught on, so could be less or could be more damage. 1 thing that will save your bike are those fat exhaust haha. The ZX-6R can lay on its side without touching the plastics because of it. :P

I'd fitted the bike with a Yoshimura stainless 3/4 system...that's the dual, tri-oval mufflers and Y-pipe...about 12 years ago. I've had the whole system off recently to replace the header bolts, clean it, etc....and, interestingly, the headers are titanium, too. I cleaned and weighed them( no corrosion at all ), and they were only 1.33kg. The exhaust manifold...the section that holds the EXUP valve...appears to be the same metal as well. There's nothing in the workshop or owners manuals about what metals were used( only that the stock mufflers were titanium skinned ), but, Yamaha didn't go cheap on the stock exhaust back then.

    The best mod you should do is hire a professional to tune your ecm to your style of riding after your mods, exhaust, intake, headers or gear changes. Race fuel is useless unless your ecm is tuned for it. Exhaust is useless unless your ecm is tuned for it. High flow air intake filter is useless if you don’t know how to oil it and your ecm is not tuned for it. Have fun.

    My 2 cents about sliders damaging the frame and flipping bikes; Frame slide mounting location, length and slider hardness will all affect the performance. I believe the ideal slider is located near the top of the center of mass (motor), but not higher than it. It should be short as possible while still allowing for clearance during slides. Lastly, a soft slider wears as is scrapes the ground; larger bumps that may flip the bike with a hard slider, often just take chunks out of the slider made with softer material. Each bike will obviously be different, but this is my rule of thumb.

    “Might give you a couple hp”, “need a tune” and “when you crash” not strong points to prevent me from a nice SC short. The sound is a matter of preference, i prefer the nasty short sound… the tune will be needed for any need exhaust if you want it running correctly and the crash part i wont even mention, after 20 years riding the hell out of my bikes pretty much every day commuting and traveling, i never went thru any sort of accident. Not saying it will never happen, but I believe it’s a matter of being vigilant for you and other, always 2 steps ahead of traffic. But when my crash day comes I don’t think the exhaust will change anything at all.

      No some of it is false. Buying an expensive exhaust to "protect your bike" is a dumb idea and performance airfilters don't let in more particulates if they are properly designed and made.

    • @zachfeder9415
      @zachfeder9415 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@Bikeadelic You seem to be misunderstanding the first point about the exhaust. All he's saying is that there's a chance that a larger pipe will do a better job at protecting whatever side it's on than a shorty. Which is undeniably true a larger chunk of material is going to protect a larger area. That's just basic comprehension. Also be aware of pod filters such as k&n. It's been proven that they do let in more particulates even under perfect conditions and that's assuming you actually clean and oil it regularly. Which, let's be honest no one ever does religiously. Cheers bud.

    • @Bikeadelic
      @Bikeadelic ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Zach feder the exhaust is part of the bike and cost more than fairings. If it gets damaged the bike is damaged as it is part of the bike. So it doesn't not protect the bike.
      He did not state K&N he stated a brand I have not heard of. I have seen evidence of K&N filters doing just as good as job for the reasons I mentioned. You can get gilters that dont require oil. Oil filters are a whole seperate class of filter not mentioned by me or him so our comments don't apply to them.
      That's basic comprehension.
      I'm not your bud.

    • @zachfeder9415
      @zachfeder9415 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Bikeadelic I'm not sure if you've never worked on a motorcycle before but replacing a slip on is a hell of a lot easier than replacing anything else. Sure it's more expensive but Id rather replace the muffler than a tail section or frankly anything else. He didn't even mention a specific brand of filter. He just said high flow filters in general of which KN is the most popular. So with that being said I refer to my previous point. You really gotta stop objecting to stuff just because you don't understand it. Cheers bud.

    • @Bikeadelic
      @Bikeadelic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Zach feder I've worked on many cars and bikes for years. I have a pillar lift and bike lift, three compressors, 1 welder, a lathe, a mill along with all kinds of smaller toolage. Try replacing a "slip on" on a 2015 fireblade! The fairing pannels are just as easy and in some cases easier than replacing and exhaust. The fact you don't know that shows you clearly aren't mechanically competent. If the exhaust will save it so will the fairing. If you read the other commens I left he replies "Sprinter's" regarding air filters. As I said K&N normal oem replacement filters, which do not require oil beyond the service intervals you would normally take the filter out anyway (50,000 miles quoted by k&n), do not let in more particulates and even if they did it would be so minimal it would make no difference.
      I'm objecting to bad advice, which this bloke and his channel regularly provide to ignorant riders such as yourself 🙂

      Brembo doesn't make specific brakes for the 500's (what I'd imagine), so if you want them on the bike you'd need to go to the Tüv to get them checked for "safety". And that costs even more money for the private person.
