    The AUX port is actually very handy, audio quality and 3D capability is significantly improved connected to my Sound Blaster sound card compared to USB. You also get the benefit of being able to hear PC audio and optical audio simultaneously. I'm just really disappointed with the freezing issues even on the latest firmware. Astro support is indicating that they will replace my headset, but I'm probably just going to sell it and go back to my old Astro A50 Gen 3 until the Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless gets a price drop.

    A very honest review, you did an amazing work, thank you very much for this review and I hope it actually helps to other buyers, because these days youtubers lie a lot. I have A50 gen 4 since day 1 and I'm totally dissapointed, I will not buy another Astro Headset again.

      Thanks. I never like to bash product but I try to explain stuff I would want to know when I shop for products. There are a lot of pros for the A50 Gen 4s, but it's equally important to understand the flaws as well. Thanks for checking out the channel, and sorry to hear about your frustrations with the headset! If you haven't already, keep checking for firmware updates. It helped a lot with mine.

    I know that this video is old, but the microphone issue is very easily fixed. If you have a small screwdriver, you can open the ear cup and tighten the screw in the mic so it stays. Constantly putting the mic up and down can cause the screw to come lose but luckily you just have to tighten it.

    • @KewaiiGamer

      Ok. let me just purchase a tesla and will start fixing the engine cuz it came broken 🤡

    • @originsmaster8140
      @originsmaster8140 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KewaiiGamer you are retarded. But congrats on making yourself look like a clown. The microphone doesn’t come broken. It becomes lose with the hundreds of times you raise it and lower it. But instead of breaking like a cheap mic would, you just tighten the screw and it lasts another few hundred flicks. And when it comes lose again, guess what? One quick tighten that takes about two minutes fixes the issue for another couple of years.

    If you use Dolby Access and properly EQ them you can get a good sound out of them. The factory bass heavy tuning and top end roll off is not appealing to me at all. They will never compete with the openness of a planar headphone but they do sound quite good if you take the time to EQ them.

      Thanks! The fabric breathes well and the clamp force isn't too bad. Due to the weight and pad design after a few hours your ears will definitely need a little break. It's a great 2-3 hour headset but I couldn't run it for an entire day without popping them off a couple times.

    Hey man, I have had the a50s since Black Friday of this year, and my warranty to return them ends in 2 weeks. I have had problems not hearing anyone in voice chat in most games. I learned from a blog on Astro that they updated them for the new gen consoles, so you don’t need the optical audio cord anymore. This actually allows me to hear voice chat finally! However, the sound quality has drastically decreased. My $200 beats have more power and better sound quality than these $350 Astro a50s. But with the optical audio cord they sounded so good, best headphones I ever tried. I am in a predicament. I plan on getting the new Xbox series x this year, should I keep these Astro a50s and try them out on the series x? Or should I return them and go with another brand?/] any advice tips? Please!!👍🏼🙏🏻

    So how do they compare to the turtle beach 700 gen2 ? If price doesn’t matter

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These can be customized more regarding noise gate profiles and the 5 band EQ. The 700 Gen 2 offers more for the money, and the mic sounds better. The A50 controls are more intuitive, and I like having the tap buttons for chat to game mix vs a dial. It allows you to really dial in the mix.
      I think you'd be happy with either, but the 700 Gen 2 is a better value (it even adds Bluetooth). I'll likely do a massive video soon breaking down a large number of headsets in different price points to discuss pros and cons, because it's so much to explain.

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly they are both so good but have different pros and cons. The 9X is slightly better for Series S/X because the EQ settings work without optical. The A50 is a great headset, even though its $100 more and lacks Bluetooth, partly because long term durability and wireless stability seem slightly better than the 9X. I suppose it depends on what’s more important to you and what platform(s) you use them on, and even the games you play. Both are top tier.

    What the best wireless Xbox one headset?

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For what's available today, Astro A50 has the most features/best wireless connection. LucidSound LS50X has noticeably better sound quality but lacks customization and the mic quality is poor until they fix it via firmware update. LS50X does offer Bluetooth though which is nice. TurtleBeach is launching the Stealth 700 Gen 2 next month which, considering the features and price at $150, will be very difficult to beat for the money. It too offers Bluetooth that works at the same time as Xbox gaming.
      LucidSound LS35X is a pretty awesome headset to consider as it sounds almost as good as the LS50X, but lacks Bluetooth. The mic works much better than the LS50X and it can be found under $180. I still enjoy using this headset even with all the others in my collection.
      SteelSeries Arctis 9X still has connection issues to this day. Plantronics RIG is decent but buggy with the USB connection. They don't hold up as well.
      Long explanation but the answer isn't black and white.

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are decent and very configurable. They also do well in ESports because they are hardwired which eliminates potential wireless issues. I just prefer wireless for gaming headsets at this price point. If I'm going to be contstrained to a wire, I'd prefer higher end headphones with a mod mic or studio mic.

    Hi there, I am looking for a new gaming headset that is wireless, great for music, and will last at least 2 years. Do you have any recommendations? I’m asking because your video saved me $300 as I was looking for someone to be up front and not these are the best. Thank you for your honesty.

    Wish they sold the A050's Gen 3 (only because they did not have them at the store gen 3s where amazing and lasted 5 years!) purchased the gen 4s today... "😧" Hearing about sound quality, about to find out. Using otic not USB, might be the issue, although I do not know.

      Gen 4s are nearly as good as Gen 3s. Audio quality is nearly the same with gen 3s slightly better, but the range of the Gen 4s is very good.

    Just say you hate the headset. i have had the Gen 3S and the TR40s these A50s are 100% better sounding!
    you have to set the EQ to your prefrence.

    I have these, when I connect a cable to charge them after a few minutes my cable just falls out, but for the first time earlier it was on one bar so i plugged it in to charge it got to two bars then made a beeping noise then everything on the base station went off except the “xbox” sign then the cable just fell out, then everything came back on the base station anyone know what’s going on here I just can’t seem to charge it with a cable while using it?

      Make sure the headset is paired to your base station. Perhaps have it on and docked. I've never run into that issue on the Gen 3 or the Gen 4s.

    Getting audio popping on explosions and chat have latest firmware playing on the series x. I get drops from less than 10 feet direct line of sight and upstairs getting a coffee. My first set had a defective top pad that would pop off partly I warranty replaced them at bestbuy with an arctis pro wireless. They sounded way better had the duel battery and far more comfortable, but they were not very xbox compatible having to use Bluetooth to my phone and could only use party chat. With the series x not having an optical port made my 400$ steelseries into nothing more than a regular 3.5 headset, duel batteries were nolonger used, Bluetooth couldn't be used, I couldn't even adjust the volume anymore. So back to bestbuy with the arctis 9x sold out I was forced back into the astro a50. I tried several other brands ,razor naga and hyperx cloud flight I took back the hyperx because it didn't have 7.1 but honestly it was the best headset I tried could walk all the way out to my garage the range was amazing only problem was the comfort which can easily be fixed with some thicker aftermarket cups.

    I have watched a lot of videos on these to see if my issue is more common, the issue is the headband, he mentioned missing bass, mine are bass heavy so I had to cut that, do take all this with a grain of salt I will agree the sound could be better

    My Astro A50s (gen 3) were probably the most comfortable headphones I’ve ever had. They have the connection problems that you referenced in this video, so I’m upgrading. Do you know of any other headphones that compare to Astros as far as comfort is concerned?

      You have to install Astro Command Center on your computer, then make sure the base station is in PC mode (switch on back). Connect USB cable to computer. When you launch Astro Command Center, it will prompt you with firmware updates if they are available.

      @@N-HEADDALOCSTA1960 Hard to say for sure until I hear the Gen 2 700 but I can tell you if it plays/sounds like I think it will, the 700 Gen 2 it's likely going to replace my Astro A50 Gen 4. Otherwise the A50 is tough to beat performance wise as long as you get one that works. Those custom EQs can make a big difference in games. The 600 Gen 2 is amazing as well, especially for the money, but I like the ability to customize my headset so the 700 should be the winner.

      The A50 is tuned well for gaming at the detriment of overall sound quality with regards to music/various sound effects. They good for footsteps which helps a lot of course, and the Astro Command Center app is a big reason for that. It lets you tune everything, even though the speakers themselves are only so-so. If you're on console, it's a really good option. I think the Stealth 700 Gen 2 gives you more bang for your buck though.

    Do you have an Xbox headset (high end) that you rate as 5 out of 5?

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly I haven't found a perfect headset yet. The Stealth 700 Gen 2 is the closest so far at a 4.5. Only drawback are occasional bugs with the app or connection on Series X (which seems to be a Series X issue at the moment). In pure sound they compete with 300 headsets. The LucidSound is 4/5 only because of the poor mic performance and lack of customization. Sound quality and comfort is great. HyperX CloudX Flight has zero issues but sound quality, features, and comfort are slightly lacking. I have not been happy with Steelseries sound quality yet. More to come!

      @@GadgetryTech thanks bro. If money is not an issue, would you choose Stealth 700 or A50s?
