Honestly, my a50’s have held up longer than any other headset that I’ve bought. I have had the gen 3’s since they came out and haven’t had any major issues. I have 1000’s of hours on these and the battery still holds a 12 hour charge.
Same here, I had the older A50 and loved it so much, I had to preorder the new X. I had others just to test, but nothing gives me the same sound quality as these.
lucky you, I had my current pair for almost 3 years but had to sodder on a new battery as they only lasted like 8-10hours per charge, and I can game for a few days at times.
@@maikel74 Did you get the A50x, i "upgraded" from the gen after having it with little to no issues other than wear and tear for years since it launched. Hands down the best gaming headset ive ever tried. So i never even for a second thought about buying anything else for an upgrade other than astros. A50x was the next one and oh boy, its straight ass compared to the gen 3... Huge disappointment over the sound quality it felt like i was using the gen 3 without clicking the dolby button (yes i did activate dolby and used alot of different eqs and eq profiles). I did get an eq that was much better than the shit default one but it still didnt hit the spot. Not to mention the continous fucking buzzing sound that plays when there is no audio. It triggers me because i cant listen to anything that is too quiet because that stupid buzzing sound will be playing in the background and literally nothing i did fixrd it. Side tone at 0, different eqs, base station off etc... nothing worked :/
If you notice correctly (but I guess it's hard to see) - I have worn ALL my audio swag in this video: Sennheiser, EPOS, Deity and SteelSeries. heh gotta troll Logitech sometimes. -D.
@@HardwareCanucks oh right. I've noticed the white shirt in particular, decided to write the comment and then strictly focused on the headset apparently haha
Thank you so much for mentioning the side tone. So many other reviews do not cover this and it feels like less newer headsets offer a robust sidetone/mic monitoring.
If you care more about how you sound, instead of everything else sounds to you... well, you are wasting money. EDIT: I mean, this is gaming-grade stuff, but what matters more for you after all? Audeze Maxwell beats all of these kid toys called "gaming headsets" at the price range up to 400.
I have had the A40 w mixer for almost 5 years and they have been performing exactly the same since I’ve purchased them. Of course there is paint chips on the plastic, but the comfort, adjustability, mic and audio quality is top tier.
I replaced my original A50's with this and I don't have any regrets -- as long as it lasts 8+ years like the first pair. I am only using it for PC. The new model is lighter and the sound is better than the original. Only gripe is the old A50 cups don't quite fit the new model and I really didn't need the multi-console addition and expense. My phone automatically connects when it turns on and disconnects when I'm done. I can take a call if needed or mix in a sports broadcast or music. Loving it so far!
Tbh I've been waiting for Astro to make a comparable update to the A50 Gen 1s, and I think they ALMOST nailed it. The HDMI switcher is a bit unnecessary unless you're limited on inputs for your display, but to be able to have a One-Stop-Shop for PS, XB, and PC audio for like a HTPC is pretty nice! If you plan to use this for streaming however, I don't think this is headset for it. Looks tp be purely consumption focused imho.
legit my take. the astro a50s gen 1s were amazing. gen 4 had so many connectivity issues, like it randomly disconnecting from the base station. It's great Logitech own them now.
fingers crossed those disconnection issues are fixed on the new models, really bad when your mid game or something and they just disconnect and took several attempts to reconnect them gen 1 were special.@@YuokoII
These honestly sound like the headset I've been waiting for. I have both consoles on my TV. And when I get my PC back up and running, it will be reconnected as well. No streaming or anything for me. I barely play multiplayer period. So I just want: 1. Sound Quality (obviously the most important 2. Wireless (I'm on a couch withe a clean set-up. No wires please. Yes I know that impacts sound but I'm ok with that) 3. Convenience (no switching sources) 4. Bluetooth (for music or podcasts) Boom! All four here... I'll take it. Yes it's expensive, but that's why I have a job, to spend my money on things I actually want and will use for many years to come.
Love this review I owned the last gen A50's and found myself buying a separate dock to use for the PlayStation to bounce between all 3 systems it was annoying having 2 docks. This is an upgrade for me for sure!
I know this product have had two over a period of 3 years. Both eventually stopped working after a little over a year when the headset no longer connects with the base station. However I had a friend who worked at Logitech 2020 and they told me that the problems I had were ones the company knows about. The only thing that kind of saved me was the fact I had a 2 year warranty with Best Buy. Great head phones, but the break and the fact Astro knows this and still does nothing is too much for me. I returned and went with a cheaper pair of turtle beach. They work, do not care if the break since they were cheap. But Astro A50 is not a quality lasting product, so if you have money to burn go for it.
I’m sure they could reach a lower price point if they had a simpler base for people who only have 1 PC or 1 console. Some of the upgrades are nice. For 380 it is a really hard sell. I have used Astro products for the past 10 years.
As someone that has their PS5 and PC right next to each other and I like the option to swap my PS5 to my monitor a bit more easily and with audio, but it was a hard pill to swallow for the price. I have had the A50X for about 2 weeks now or so, and I mostly love that it is a great all around package with great audio, great battery life and a charging dock, very comfortable and an amazing mic so I got rid of my standalone mic since I kind of care about mic quality and I dislike having a standalone mic in the way. I had the Arctis nova pros before now since I really liked swapping a battery out, but now I don't even need to do that. The PC to PS5 audio switching was sort of a mixed bag issue for me. I don't play on PS5 enough to REALLY warrant it but I do for a fair amount and this may entice me to play more Ps5 with my monitors over my TV.
I am really impressed on how much quality you put into your videos, this is the first time I'm watching you and you truely deserve a follow, keep it up!
I still rock A40TR. Yes they are wired but I have never had iny issues with them. Price tag is just too much for me to consider switching to these. btw, great review.
Glad to see they finally have something worthwhile! Unfortunately the switching aspect would be useless for my kind of setup, as I'd rather hear both my PC and console at the same time, not choose between which one I want to listen to
did you find a solution to this. I to have an xbox and PC hooked up to the the same monitor. Would really love to be able to use 1 headset/mic for both devices. Currently have to switch between headset and earphones for the two devices.
@@jjgarcia6833My solution in the past was using a GoXLR. I don't use console voice chat so I can't help you in that case. Once my GoXLR Mini kept having issues I replaced it with an audio interface that allows for Optical and analog input. I use an XLR microphone, and a normal pair of headphones/earbuds
@jjgarcia6833 my current setup is usb from astro mixamp tr to the Xbox and optical cable into the back of my pc. With an elgato capture card I am able to hear both xbox and pc at the same time.
Great review and I did end up buying an A50X for my space. I wanted to comment about "needing everything connected to the same monitor" is not exactly true. It is true that you will likely need everything in the same room but in my office I also have a TV mounted on the wall nearby and that is what I run the HDMI from the A50X to so when I want to play PS5 or Xbox I simply press the switch button on my headset and the TV will show the console and the A50X will connect to that and works perfectly while my PC remains on my monitor.
Man... idk what it is about headset manufacturers, but it's like they refuse to make the headset I actually want lol. I *do* swap between platforms a lot, but they are not in the same space. I love that they gave it a good mic (that is the main thing holding back other headsets), but I do not want to be tied to a dock or have to connect everything to one screen. Rather than have all that in the dock, they should have just included multiple USB adapters for each device and put bluetooth in the headset as well. Then you could easily switch devices from the headset without needing to mess with HDMI. The dock could even have a spot to plug in one of the transmitters. It also really needs the ability to do wired connectivity, especially at that price. I want a headset with decent sound, a great mic w/ flip-to-mute, and the ability to easily swap between PC, console, a phone, etc... but alas, it still doesn't exist lol
I remember replacing the Gen 3 and had to solder on the new battery. They should really look at maybe changing it to a connector or replaceable battery. Would improve sustainability but as a business it would mean more products lasting longer and less profits.
Gotta love the GOAT - Arctic Nova Pro Wireless! Despite the better audio delivery on the A50X, the NPW is still my go to for daily use with BT and PC. -D.
Hey, I'm wondering how and whether the headset also works when I use 2 monitors on my setup. I have the PS5 and PC; both devices have their own monitor. The Astro station only has one HDMI output; Does this mean that I would have to change the HDMI out cable EVERY TIME if I use the sound on different monitors? I've only seen reviews where people use one TV/monitor for all their devices.
I made the right decision since I game on all three platforms. With the Gen 4 set I had to buy the XBox base station. The one thing I miss is not being able to play on my PS5 and use my PC for Discord. The Discord link for PS means I have to hear my audio on PC through my speakers while I hear the game on my A50X. Not a big deal and I can adjust both volumes for proper balance. Great review!
Amazing review, i was going to get these because its the latest and greatest. But like u said. Console gamers on a big TV. Thats me , and using one gaming platform. Thats me also. Its overkill for my needs, im going to settle for the previous gen A50s for over 100$ difference. Thank you brother.
Would have loved more of a comparison to the Nova Pros. Not even a mic test was included. Being the closest competitor in that price range. Really enjoyed this video!
@@sharkboi4172 I have top offerings of Steelseries and I miss Logitech/Astro everyday. the battery station doesn't charge the swappable batteries properly and the length is awful after a year. My astros were top form for 3 years.
I had an earlier A50 for a few years and LOVED the signal range. Working from home, this let me stay in a meeting several rooms away. Sadly, firmware seemed to keep getting jankier until finally an update failed and it bricked.
How do you change the battery? I Looked into it, and looks like it's not user changeable.. So when battery breaks down, throw out or take a chance on you being able to find a battery and change it yourself. The headset is way too expensive for that kind of limitation IMHO.
@@varunaX yeah but I can pay to have my phone battery changed, I highly doubt I can contact Logitech and have this battery replaced? The scroll wheel on my mouse stopped working 5 years ago.. Logitech couldn't do anything to help. I went on ebay and bought the wheel from a chinese gentleman, changed it and it worked for years. I bet its the same story, probably today Logitech wont sell you a new battery or change it, if the unit is not under warranty.
I had a lot of issues with my last 2 pairs of A50. Had to replace the docking station because de charging pins are very fragile and get broken or crushed extremely easily (watch put if you have kids!). I’m not going back to any product like that unfortunately. Your video is very concise and informative and also enabled me to find the information that I needed (ex: confirming the little pins in the charging station are still present and that any malalignment of the headset in the docking station breaks the pins…..)
The microphone is insane. You could have recorded the whole video with it and I wouldn't have noticed at ALL. Best microphone I've ever heard in any headset, both wireless (which are usually trash) and wired. Just insane
Great video, super hyped for my preorder. The only PC I have is a Steam Deck, and when it's at home, it's docked alongside the PS5, Xbox series x and Switch all in the living room, so this will be perfect for me! Muahahahaha *plotting raccoon meme*
I own PC + PS + Xbox, and they're all connected to my PC monitor, so this is compelling for me. My struggle here are a few things you pointed out, such as auto reconnecting to BT, BT being tied to the base station, the coating wearing off and the middle piece in the headband seeming to be a bit flimsy.
I don't see how your 3 caveats are actually things wrong with the product. I have had a a pair of A50's for about 6+ years at this point. Battery still lasts several hours and the sound quality is great, the whole set has held up beautifully this entire time. The volume adjustments between game and chat works very well and is so quick and easy to use.
Not changing up the headband design is a huge mistake. It's a known issue that the pad part in the middle tends to just fly off and won't sit properly in the sockets. I've swapped my Astro A50 Genn 4, 4x times. Glad they're finally on better mic quality and USB type C. About time!!!
As a gamer with all three devices, I was considering this headset. It is out of stock now so that might be a sign. The convenience was the selling point for me. It will also free up HDMI port(s) on the TV (if I understand the connectivity correctly).
I’ve had the latest a50 model (in 2021) for years now and i stilll use them daily, they are amazing and have never let me down. The sound quality and dolby atmos is great and i can wear them all day. Yes it was expensive but for a gaming headset that even now still doesn’t rival many others it’s been one of the best. Great to see Bluetooth, sad in this model it’s not built in tho.
excellent video on the mic. what i was looking for. im comiong from steelseries and the noise cancelling mic has been really good. it seems these a50 x will do just as good. thanks
Did you by chance play around with the mobile app? For example, some headsets come with IOS apps which let you tune the sound (bass boost or whatever). Since this pairs with the base and not the phone, does the app just let you adjust the audio for the consoles/PC or does it let you adjust the audio for using it with a phone as well.
Great video, I am looking for a gaming headphone with a great microphone that also has noise cancelation, what do you recommend for wired and wireless? Thanks a lot in advance
i had astro a40s since 2016 and they still work fine to this day, i upgraded and got a pair of a50s in 2021 and they’ve held up just a fine. i’ll stand by astros forever one of the few things worth the price edit - to add to this before my astros i went through 3 different headsets all lasting 1-2 years, those were logitech, sony branded headphones for the ps3(can’t remember the name) and one pair from a company called sharkoon
Just ordered some of these, should pick them up tomorrow, but I am only going to be using them on my PC haha. I'm not sure if it seems like total overkill, but it seems so difficult to find a headset that has good sound quality, good comfort, good microphone quality, and convenient charging, all while being wireless. I want to put my headset down at the end of the day and come back to it without needing to ever worry about specifically charging it. There are so many headsets that come close to what this one seems to be able to do, but none seem like as much of a complete package. I'm really hopeful that the build quality isn't an issue. I don't really mind some scuffing on things like the soft plastic, I just want it to last and be usable for a long time at this price point. So as long as the dock and headset itself continue to work and stay in one piece I'd be happy haha. Right now I have the PC38X, which will make a very solid wired backup should I need it. I do like the PC38X, but have missed having a wireless headset really.
Thank you so much for the detailed review, Dimitry! how would you compare it with the Beyerdynamic MMX 200 wireless? Both have best-in-class wireless Mics. but besides Beyerdynamic doesn't have software to adjust EQ or mic settings but still has a very decent build-in noise cancellation to the mic.. how is the sound quality? which one would you pick?
The MMX200 for me is incredibly uncomfortable. To the point of unbearable after 20min. The clamping force is just insane, and the ear cushions don’t compliment the tight fit so I’ve never really given them a chance in long term use. But the A50X seem to have a bit more power and open sound. The MMX200 were fine but lack the depth that is naturally heard with Astro. -D.
I am still using the first gen A50's which also have the Game/ Chat audio buttons. They act as a volume mixer where one is the standard playback device on your Windows computer and the other is a communication playback device. Does it not work like that anymore on this model?
I have both astro a50x and the audeze maxwell the maxwell are too too too heavy for every day usage and there boring no immersion and the app sucks they been sitting on my desk for three months now astro a50x all day every day stay safe and happy gaming to all
@@jamesstevens968 dude calm down breathe :D I agree on one thing, the Maxwell are kinda heavy. I can use them for hours without issues, but I understand it can be a problem for somebody.
Well, I guess it's better than the older versions that were console specific. Good review. But how about replacing the battery down the line? Is that easy or hard? I'm still using an older plantronics rig 800 hd myself, looking around for a suitable replacement..
As someone with a PS5, XSX, and switch hooked up to a single TV this product is a godsend. The HDMI switcher alone is a win because my TV is slap out of HDMI ports. Been waiting on these because the original A50s are utter garbage with the PS5 I have enjoyed my nova pros but the A50Xs audio quality is noticeably better, plus the mic is a night and day difference $379 is about what I spent in total on 3 bespoke headsets for each of the consoles so this is great for me personally
I cant speak for the newer astro's but I've had my pair of astro a40's for 11 years with the only issue being that the cable broke last year. For about $200 at the time, it was one hell of a purchase
I bought astro a40tr in 2018 and I never had problem with build quality, only thing I had to change were the earpads, I honestly think that if you don't try to stretch them out to throw them they won't break
So, I agree 100% these are a niche product and to me that niche is living room PC gaming. It would just tie a Livingroom or couch gaming room setup together nicely.
I love this review it's really good and packed with plenty of information, I'm a bit lazy though so I'd like to know if you'd prefer the nova pro wireless over it?? I have a nova 7 and I just can't compare any of my older headsets to it, maybe due to price differences but sonar makes it even better
Hey dude , love your content if you don’t mind me asking you one question , since you are the only guy i trust when it comes to headphones. Regarding the astro a50x , do recommend the Bluetooth for mobile gaming like pubg mobile, or do u recommend another headphone
I disagree with your quality assesment. While you might think that the quality isn't great, I have literally used every pair of Astro's I've owned for multiple years (then sold them after that) and they were all still completely fine and working, never had a broken piece or anything.
Great video, very helpful. To answer your question, YES, I will definitely buy a pair, cause I play on both consoles (PS&Xbox) and have two headset, one for PS (JBL Quantum 800) and one for Xbox (SteelSeries Arctis 9x) on which I've spent almost 450€. I need two chargers, two cables, two spots to rest when I'm not playing, plus, I also need to memorize all the buttons, functions and placement of the buttons for each headset....... So yes, I will gladly spend that kind of money to be able to have just ONE headset for both of my consoles.... Once again, thanx for the video and wish you all a nice weekend! 👍🏻😉
i’m gonna get these headphones. i have the first gen a50’s and ive had them for about 7 years now. it’s definitely time for an upgrade. i work at best buy so they definitely won’t be 380 for me. either a pretty good discount around $100 off or logitech will give us a accommodation of some type.
I owned an A50 Gen 4. The be honest, i like the Gen 4 base station more because it has an AUX port and a SPDIF port. This allow me to listen to both PC and console at the same time without needing to change the source like the A50X. This is a really convenient when you playing with your friends who doesn’t have discord or PlayStation party or you can chat on both apps (you must have a separate mic on your PC). I would like to buy this A50X IF they include the AUX port but for now, I just stick with my A50 Gen 4.
People in the comments seem to be quite worked up about the built-in battery of the Astro A50 and how it can't be replaced like the batteries in the SteelSeries headset. It's important to realize that these are two different gaming headsets. Comparing them is like comparing apples to oranges. Take, for example, the Hyper Cloud Gaming headset, which boasts over 300 hours of battery life. Do you open it up every week to replace the battery when it runs low? The point is, that the Astro A50X headset offers around 26-30 hours of battery life, which is comparable to the amount of battery juice you'd get from a SteelSeries Nova Pro. The key difference is that the Astro A50X has every built-in feature you could ask for. If you're fixated on battery life with the Astro A50, perhaps it's time to focus on other aspects and, well, maybe consider diversifying your interests. After all, sitting for 26 hours straight playing video games might not be the healthiest lifestyle choice.
I have both TB Stealth Pros and Astro A50X. The TB SPs are better in so many ways - build quality, ANC, PNC, better bass, better soundstaging (directional audio), price.
I also have an LG (45GR95QE-B) and it comes with one dumb caveat: G-Sync only works throught Display Port. So even if it has VRR on HDMI 2.1, it only works with consoles, not PC... Video formats and compatibility are still a mess, which is why I don't use a KVM, only a USB hub. This product only makes sense for couch gamers using TVs....
Thanks for the review! Been looking for a wireless headset bc I’m thinking of getting rid of the HD6xx/AMP/DAX and still leaning towards the Arctis Nova Pro or Audeze Maxwell.
I have pc and ps. One sits underneath the other and both on the same monitor. I currently use usb switches for my gen 4 a50s. I have protection on my a50s. Getting them replaced with this is a definite upgrade. No longer need to use switches and can clear my desk of them. Definite W
im using PS5 and PC Gaming on same monitor, but have a 2nd monitor for other things while gaming. I like the mixamp for this reason, does this work the same way? if not, its a no-buy for me
This product concept assumed everyone has a pc, xbox, and/or ps all at one gaming station. I definitely dont, and I live in a 300sqft loft apartment. Thanks for the detailed review. Guess I'll wait for a price drop on the Arctis nova pros. Still hoping they make new A40s though. I'm still using a set from 2011.
connecting my monitor audio to pc allows me listen to ps5 and pc audio at the same time if anyone is wondering if they can do that.....love this headset waited forever for a new a50 to come out and glad i got this no complaints
I have the A20 gen 2 for Xbox and still enjoy them. They aren’t my go to headset but they are super comfortable. Hard to imagine the headset itself is worth nearly 250 dollars more than the A20 but it’s all about that base station.
Dang, I was really excited. A40s were my favorite back in the Halo days. It was exciting knowing they have great sound and mic, but the whole base station thing sounded way too overwhelming when I only PC game. I hope a standalone, maybe wired version comes out in the future. This product doesn't seem like it's for me. 😢
The ONE feature I wish Astro would put on the A50's is the ability to turn it into a wired headset in LAN gaming scenarios, as I found out the hard way once when my headset wouldn't work more than 30cm from the base station due to interference from the other 3000 gamers xD I want A50's that basically have the built in ability to run like A40's, wireless mode disabled completely running solely off a cable.
Yeah that is a huge deal breaker. I don’t get it… there’s a USB port (for just in case charging) but why not make it a data port as well? Would add good value to scenarios like yours. -D.
But I have the series X and ps5. Can I play on my ps5 and my son on the series x at the same time. I play on the ps5 without the tv I play psvr2. But the hdmi cables all go trough the base station of the a50x. Please help me before i buy the wrong device.
I had my First Gen Astro A50's for 10 years before the battery finally stopped holding a charge. I WAS NOT gentle with them either as they got knocked off my desk often and tossed in my travel back pack without a case often as well. I didn't upgrade until the GEN4s were out. The GEN4 is fine, the sound quality is improved for sure, but the firmware will not update and Logitech support is 0 help at all in getting that fixed. But with the features on the Astro, I don't think I'll ever be able to buy a different headset. The on ear adjustment for chat / game audio balancing is an absolute MUST HAVE for me playing Hunt Showdown or any other game really at this point. The ease of turning chat up to hear something or down so that I can hear the game better along with quick changing audio presets is something no other headset has at this point. Until another headset can introduce these seemingly simple advancements, I'll stick with Astros.
I might have brought this is they still had optical. Optical is still useful for watching regular TV or playing older consoles. No replacable battery sucks as well. I had a gen 2 A50 and I'm currently using a Gen 4 but when these brake I might switch to Steelseries.
My steelseries arctis nova pro wireless mic is starting go out was looking at these or the new Corsair and after further research I’m going to stick with the Steelseries
logitech stopped improving the astro lineup ever since they bought them, its a shame I have the gen 3 ones since release and still find no reason to get the newer ones except going wireless, which I had having to deal with charging
Amazing review, that makes it really clear. This headset ist amazing, but for multiplattformers like PS5 and PC at the same spot. Even tho this headset seems stunning, I'd prefer my JBL Quantum 910 just because I can use it on 2 PCs at the same time and easily swap between one PC for Switch or PS5.
Loved my A50s 4th gen but this is a hard pass for me. No one needs that connectivity and mess with wires. Had to go the Turtle Beach Stealth Pros this time around but I’ll always keep an eye on what Logitech is doing with their Astro line. Hands down the most comfortable headset for me though. Hello sorry for the late comment, but Im considering buying this product in a couple months, and I want to ask u ur experience with the product.
@@Conbonzx gen 4 were released when logitech has owned astro for 2 years already.
fingers crossed those disconnection issues are fixed on the new models, really bad when your mid game or something and they just disconnect and took several attempts to reconnect them gen 1 were special.@@YuokoII
I was trying to buy a PS4 base then found out I need an adapter, to use my OG Astro 50 xbox. This is better solution. Already ordered mine.
I've been waiting years for a headset whose mic can surpass the shure sm7b but every year disappointed.
That mic quality totally surprised me. Pretty impressive.
Many users have problems with the microphone random static noise on PC while on discord or xbox party calls.
@DxBang3D because there are 2 diffrent mics a pass through and a not they need to switch there mic to the 1st one
These honestly sound like the headset I've been waiting for. I have both consoles on my TV. And when I get my PC back up and running, it will be reconnected as well. No streaming or anything for me. I barely play multiplayer period. So I just want:
1. Sound Quality (obviously the most important
2. Wireless (I'm on a couch withe a clean set-up. No wires please. Yes I know that impacts sound but I'm ok with that)
3. Convenience (no switching sources)
4. Bluetooth (for music or podcasts)
Boom!
I hope they make a version focused only on PC gaming
I can't wait to buy this beauty! had my Astro a50 for about 5years now and I think it's time for an upgrade. Thank you for this great review!!
I had the same, looked it up and I had to reset them. That worked for me, maybe you should've try that too.
If Astro makes this headset without all the console stuff, I'm in. That microphone was AMAZING. Great vid as always Dimitri
I’m sure they could reach a lower price point if they had a simpler base for people who only have 1 PC or 1 console. Some of the upgrades are nice. For 380 it is a really hard sell. I have used Astro products for the past 10 years.
I agree…I would love for a version that uses a regular usb dongle similar to the G Pro X2. Would cut cost and make for a simpler setup
380euro is wayy too much for gaming headphones.
use beyerdynamic mmx 300
I don't play on PS5 enough to REALLY warrant it but I do for a fair amount and this may entice me to play more Ps5 with my monitors over my TV.
would you say you prefer this over the Nova Pro?
I am really impressed on how much quality you put into your videos, this is the first time I'm watching you and you truely deserve a follow, keep it up!
I still rock A40TR. Yes they are wired but I have never had iny issues with them. Price tag is just too much for me to consider switching to these. btw, great review.
I have the first gen meant for the Xbox and PC and I love it. The audio is great and like how when you place them down the music pauses.
I bought the HS80 Max and spent very little on a switcher, all works amazing together 🙌🏽
All valid points! Exactly my thinking 👌
-D.
No replaceable battery = no buy, especially for $380.
I remember replacing the Gen 3 and had to solder on the new battery. They should really look at maybe changing it to a connector or replaceable battery. Would improve sustainability but as a business it would mean more products lasting longer and less profits.
For real, I'm saving for the steel series with the replaceable batteries.
Then just use SteelSeries?
@@necondaa obviously!
Gotta love the GOAT - Arctic Nova Pro Wireless! Despite the better audio delivery on the A50X, the NPW is still my go to for daily use with BT and PC.
-D.
Hey,
I'm wondering how and whether the headset also works when I use 2 monitors on my setup. I have the PS5 and PC; both devices have their own monitor. The Astro station only has one HDMI output; Does this mean that I would have to change the HDMI out cable EVERY TIME if I use the sound on different monitors? I've only seen reviews where people use one TV/monitor for all their devices.
Great review thank you , Black Friday is comming up, so I’m thinking of picking these up and see how it compares to my steel series nova pro!
Picked these up and really impressed how good the sound is even without having to use Logitechs software. Looks like i gotta sell my Blacksharks!
Nova pro mic is awful
@@sharkboi4172 I have top offerings of Steelseries and I miss Logitech/Astro everyday. the battery station doesn't charge the swappable batteries properly and the length is awful after a year. My astros were top form for 3 years.
Can you play audio through the tv and headset at the same time?
I had an earlier A50 for a few years and LOVED the signal range. Working from home, this let me stay in a meeting several rooms away. Sadly, firmware seemed to keep getting jankier until finally an update failed and it bricked.
One of the best reviews of any product I have ever seen. Thank you
I travel for work. This headset allows me to connect to my gaming laptop and my iPad for discord chat/tutorials at the same time
Wow def got the mic right , wish they all could sound that good.
IKR
How do you change the battery?
I Looked into it, and looks like it's not user changeable.. So when battery breaks down, throw out or take a chance on you being able to find a battery and change it yourself. The headset is way too expensive for that kind of limitation IMHO.
cell phones have done this for the last 10 years bro
@@varunaX and does that make it ok? no
wake up sheep
Astros have always been a mid tier product for a premium price.
Nailed it 😂😂😂
I’ve had the latest a50 model (in 2021) for years now and i stilll use them daily, they are amazing and have never let me down.
Does the HDMI passthrough allow for seamless audio recoding with Elgato? If anyone knows I'd very much appreciate it!
you dont need HDMI just saying you can use only USB if you want to
i had astro a40s since 2016 and they still work fine to this day, i upgraded and got a pair of a50s in 2021 and they’ve held up just a fine. i’ll stand by astros forever one of the few things worth the price
edit - to add to this before my astros i went through 3 different headsets all lasting 1-2 years, those were logitech, sony branded headphones for the ps3(can’t remember the name) and one pair from a company called sharkoon
Sharkoon is a budget brand. I got the Audeze Maxwell, a different class altogether.
For someone who has a windows Desktop, a MacBook, and a PS5 on the same desk, this is an excellent product.
-D.
The mmx 200 they lack on base that's the problem astro a50x all day every day
I am still using the first gen A50's which also have the Game/ Chat audio buttons. They act as a volume mixer where one is the standard playback device on your Windows computer and the other is a communication playback device.
Does it not work like that anymore on this model?
It still works the same.
but there is no longer an aux input@@maperez12
gimme this mic on a steel series and i'm sold. i wish i wasn't so spoiled to dual game/chat channels
Yes the Astro wireless mic sound is the greatest of all time
The AUDEZE MAXWELL are on another level.
They are expensive too - 400 bucks - but the quality is amazing.
Which one is better for movies I'm on the fence on both of these
@@austin4700 see Gadgetry Tech reviews for headphones
@@austin4700I’ve read enough reviews to comment - maxwells are superior for music and film and the Astro is a gaming unit first and foremost
Been waiting on these because the original A50s are utter garbage with the PS5
I have enjoyed my nova pros but the A50Xs audio quality is noticeably better, plus the mic is a night and day difference
$379 is about what I spent in total on 3 bespoke headsets for each of the consoles so this is great for me personally
I cant speak for the newer astro's but I've had my pair of astro a40's for 11 years with the only issue being that the cable broke last year. For about $200 at the time, it was one hell of a purchase
My old A50's went out and support gave me a 30% off discount code, so would the price tag be worth it if I'd only use it on PC for $265?
Did they give you that discount due to being out of warranty?
A50x or nova pro wireless?? Thanks in advance 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I have a monitor for my pc and a tv for my ps5. Would I be able to switch between the two?
Did you buy them? Wondering if I can talk in an Xbox party while listening to sound from the PlayStation
My Astro a 50 has been the biggest headache of an item I’ve ever purchased. If you think premium price =less bugs you are dead wrong.
Do you know when the A50x launches worldwide?
i’m gonna get these headphones. i have the first gen a50’s and ive had them for about 7 years now. it’s definitely time for an upgrade. i work at best buy so they definitely won’t be 380 for me. either a pretty good discount around $100 off or logitech will give us a accommodation of some type.
great information as always, what are your top Five headsets for gaming ranked accordingly
Nice watch! Seiko 5?
So would you recommend these over the Nova Pro Wireless Headset?
You asked the questions at the start and i was just thinking, wow that’s exactly what i need. But i have an LG monitor
@@carsanwittI play on a PS5 with the Asus PG27AQDM OLED monitor. I have zero issues with the A50X working on it.

Thanks for the review! Been looking for a wireless headset bc I’m thinking of getting rid of the HD6xx/AMP/DAX and still leaning towards the Arctis Nova Pro or Audeze Maxwell.
Wtf that microphone is crazy good
I have pc and ps.
Same here, are you getting the astro a50x how are they connected to the xbox?
Dang, I was really excited. A40s were my favorite back in the Halo days. It was exciting knowing they have great sound and mic, but the whole base station thing sounded way too overwhelming when I only PC game. I hope a standalone, maybe wired version comes out in the future. This product doesn't seem like it's for me. 😢
The ONE feature I wish Astro would put on the A50's is the ability to turn it into a wired headset in LAN gaming scenarios, as I found out the hard way once when my headset wouldn't work more than 30cm from the base station due to interference from the other 3000 gamers xD
I want A50's that basically have the built in ability to run like A40's, wireless mode disabled completely running solely off a cable.
What do you recommend if just using 1 platform with same specs? Thanks
You won't regret it.
Having Astro A40 TR's from 2014 to late 2022 I can tell you that the headband does definitely go first.
Solid review!
What’s the best headset with good built in surround sound?
