Thank’s Jay... and a small suggestion for non USA/language native audience... plse try to half the speed of your speech (you don’t have to meet the Tesla accelleration potential...)
actually, you don't need to format the HDD 1st anymore, you can do it right from the car's menu now. It will not only format the drive, but automatically set up the required folders.
i ordered a M3 LR AWD in the middle of August, the specifications claims it comes with a USB drive already, and its now in the glovebox and not in the console. Hope I read it right
We take delivery in about four weeks. Seeing your video has made me wiser and really prepared to take control of our new vehicle. Outstanding, focused, and comprehensive presentation, Jay! Thanks so much.

One thing you should do first is set up a Drivers profile Called Original or something without changing anything so you can go back to the original state of the car
Thanks! I’m taking delivery of an M3 LR early next week. This is my first EV; I’m excited but also sad and nervous lol. It’s been a few weeks since I drove the demo M3 and needless to say, I still love driving my tuned MK7.5 GTI. I’m sure I’ll enjoy the new car, but I’m concerned that I will miss my vw.
I definitely miss ripping through the gears in my previous Subaru STI and cruising in the mountains with my previous BMW M235i but no regrets getting a Tesla. Could always get a weekend car on the side haha
Haha! My SR+ is ETA Nov/Dec and I’m excited but also sad to say goodbye to my Elantra GT N Line 6 Speed. Likely my last stick shift gas powered car. 😞😀
First thing with any car is get tinting and paint protection no need to get registration and insurance since in Australia thats alway done for u before u get it.
Something else to add that’s very important that you mentioned but didn’t point out as a key thing to do: that center consul wrap is very important and one of the first things you should do. Whatever material/paint they used for the center consul scratches extremely easily and you don’t want your brand new Tesla to be all scratched inside.
@@Gzickgraf Tesla is trying contactless deliveries which usually mean any papers you had to sign would be waiting for you in the car and you drop them at the door but since I had a trade-in I had to sign papers with a Tesla rep present. After that, the rep said congrats and handed me my key cards. There was no run down of the car (I didn't need one anyway). Quick and easy process.
There are complainers pointing out dings, misalignment of doors and other quirky issues. Did you have any problems that made you have to call for service? I hate cosmetic problems. Thanks for the tips. Looking forward to a 2022.
Very helpful video with excellent points delivered concisely. These are the most sensible and crucial actions I have seen on a video on this topic. Good job man.
Why can’ Tesla just make the battery bigger or alter the charge icon to 100% when it’s really at 85% if they don’t recommend using the full 100% don’t make sense
I did! The chrome delete I got from Amazon and my girlfriend got me the center console wrap as a gift. Both of the products can be found in the description. Super easy to install both of them, you just need to be patient with it and it'll turn out great!
Jay Wu no problem just bought mine this week to fix the nasty smell from the AC cabin air filter. Badly designed, good videos on TH-cam about the problem.
Good question! I don't believe so but if you don't have a harddrive/usb you can still turn sentry mode on and it will continue to flash and warn the same way. I'll have to look into this more!
With regard to formatting drive, note that fat32 only supports 32Gbytes of data, and will not directly format a disk/usb > 32G. Tesla does not support exFat (extended fat format). There are products that will partition your disk int primary and multiple secondary partitions - but Tesla did not understand this. Finally do NOT use the tesla format to format a disk greater that 32G it will nuke the disk and it will need raw initialisation as it will break the structure of the disk as it does not understand the partition is too big to format to fat32. If you do have a disk > 32G, you will need to make a primary partition on a computer first slightly less than 32G, then format to fat32 - and it will work.
Thanks for this, Tom! I think someone mentioned in the comments that flashdrives/harddrives will be automatically formatted now once you plug it in (might need to double check on this). But I've been using a hard drive over 32gb with no issues so far, maybe I'm lucky
@@JayWuOfficial I nuked a flash disk , I can see it is behaving very odd (you cannot partition it now as the partition table is corrupt), but you can write to it until 32G, then the write dies. My tesla would not write to this corrupted drive. I guess the simple answer - ONLY use a flash drive/disk < 32G bytes unless you know how to partition it correctly from a computer
Still haven't gone on a road trip with my SR+ yet lol furthest I've gone is probably SF and that's about an hour away from me. But 90% is plenty. Charging to 100% to START a road trip is ideal, but then ideally you'd only want to charge to ~60% or enough to get you to the next supercharger since the first half is a lot quicker to "fill up"
@@JayWuOfficial lol it was an 08 purchased in 13 for less than what I paid for an SR+ but that 08 had a lot of features some cars still don't. Mercedes isn't the same anymore though, they slack
@@harshbirbrar2830 Yeah i can say the about the BMW I had before my Tesla. You would think that it would have driver profiles and whatnot but it didn't lol
Don’t buy a mechanical drive. 1tb ssd’s are the way to go. And before you knock the amount of times you can write to it. I have been deploying ssd’s in laptops for years. Never had a failure. Just buy name brand. I suggest an m.2 1tb SSD. Tiny, lightweight, and quick.

Depends if your car came with the update that includes that or not. Mine didn't (recent delivery)
I think you still have to create the capture folder manually. format won’t create/add, I had to.
