Why would you guys put so much time, effort and money into a horrible boat ? The Black Mold hiding behind the V birth walls and the water damage. It makes no sense at all. Do you watch other peoples mistakes doing these same type of never ending refits ? It's valuable lessons learned
Buying a boat that floats and runs and you can enjoy makes much better sense. Or at least doing a refit on a boat worth fixing and not a rotten mess that should be cut up and retired. Sorry but truth is hard to swallow and in 2 years you'll WISH you took heed to this advice.
Just like 95% of the rest of " refitters " learn and regret. Examples like Atticus first boat. And UMA's dumpster boat and soooo many others.
Well Peace ☮️ out and have a Blessed Christmas 🎄 and 🎉 New Year !
Hello! 😊
Thank you so much for your advice but we’re sticking with it. Mold can be cleaned and rotten wood replaced 😉 We would be more than happy if our boat turned out as good as @SailingUma first refit!
We too wish you a Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year 🎄
Cheers!
@@SailingSeabird I wish you all the luck in the world. I used to be in your shoes not so many years ago. And after watching tens of thousands disappear and i'd get finished only to realize my project is worth half my investment and time is something you never get back. 3 refits later, I swore off of buying any sailboat that wasn't at least turnkey enjoyable and of course needs ' some ' upgrading. Then I felt better sailing to places with cheaper labor to do little upgrades I wanted AND give someone employment at the same time. Don't think i'm not hip to the TH-cam " Refit Craze " to make the money to assist in doing it all. BUT it's getting sooo played out and sooo many are jumping on ship as others are jumping off ship as the views/subscribers plummet and Patreon patrons go more towards helping one channel for a few months and get bored and then help another channel for a while, ect ect .... You work 8-10hrs to edit a 20 minute or 16hrs for a fancy 30min episode, and you check your audience stats and realize you didnt break minimum wage for your time.
Ya it's getting tougher every day unless you have a gimmick. Then there's the Crying Face - Bikini Crying Face and " We Quit " baited thumbnails .... i.e. Expedition Evans
or others like that ... Gets old quickly.
Honesty. Hard Work usually does pay off , so all I can advise is Keep It Real and don't sell out to AG1 or some VPN sponsored nonsense. Those crooks ruin people in the long run. If you consider sponsorships or Ambassador privileges, Do them with companies selling Sailboat or Marine related goods so you can be honest and say -- Wow , this new BETA 45 runs great .... or my new Rolly Tasker sails are a dream come true ,,, and Raymarine Axiom
Chartplotters are soooo easy to use and great devices !!!
( see what I did there for Algo's )
Anyways.
Cheers Y'all.
Take Care.

it all depends, theres plenty similar broken dreams in every port, stuck in time. People do what they want to do. Its theyr life theyr journey. reality many perish. But many make dream come true and they sail again. People who have no idea after seeing rotten wood or water damage gets scared than its mere joke to replace and place new wood
There's a lot to be said for the satisfaction of taking a "horrible boat" and restoring it to it's former glory. For many, part of the enjoyment is the restoration side not to mention it's the only way for some if the budget is not there to by a fully working boat from the outset.
It‘s a good day when there’s a new Sailing Seabird video. Thank you so much for letting us being part of your journey!
Our pleasure!
Let's make the algorithms work as hard as you are working!
I thought for a moment... Just for a moment, that you guys had lost your minds and bought a motor yacht. But you guys are sailors and I realized it was just a rented apartment before you spilled the beans.
My sacrifice to the algorithm
Cheers!!
It's amazing how you recycle and upcycle materials you get for free!
So glad you're not actually abandoning Seabird. Love your content. ❤❤
If your air conditioner has a dehumidifier setting then use that to reduce the condensation overnight. Dry air is a lot easier to heat up and so cheaper and more comfortable.
It will defo be quicker to work in a vacated area and less stressful I suspect.
It's going to look so good once you get all that rotten wood replaced! I'm already jealous.
I've been a subscriber since you first bought seabird and it's really cool to see her coming together.. my Friday is officially a good day when I get on TH-cam and see sailing seabird has posted a new video.. give it a little bit and the channel will start to grow quickly again..
Here's a comment for your algorithm. You are making good progress! 👍
I enjoy Stu’s laid back way. And yet the two of you progress so well. You are a good inspiration!
Love your Chanel keep it up from a hot Cape town south Africa
Hiya,
Thanks for the encouragement.
Hope you are enjoying the sunshine 🌞
Cheers for watching 😃
Hang in there. Winter is tough but you’re doing great.
I hope this is only temporary because I really enjoy the honesty and down-to-earth videos.
A dehumidifier would make your lives so much better! Nice job all around. 😊
Very true!
We'll get that sorted soon.
Cheers for watching 😃
You two have sure come a long way, can't wait to see it when you are done! Keep smiling and... STAY WARM! :)
Yours is the only channel I don't mind watching ads on - know its supports the efforts and the rebuild. You guys are doing great. And that wind is sounding stronger - storm season soon?😅
Damn that algorithm. Hope you get seabird on the water next year.. I’m always interested in your output it’s great
‘We’ve seen this blob for ages’☺️
That resin in the bilge is probably ‘syntactic’ foam which is nothing more than micro ballon’s and polyester resin (No cabosil so it flows), it was probably put in there to fill up low spots so the bilges drain to the right place or have a flat surface. We used to also use a similar mix when bonding in fiberglass Fuel /water/waste tanks between stringers. This might also have been leak out from one of these installations. It’s a good cheap rot proof way to install tanks (permanently!).
This is a good mix inside rudders as it does not absorb water like so called closed cell urethane foam that eventually breaks down !
Cheers Warren
Great that you can live in a nice environment while taking out and repairing the interior of Seabird. Good idea. 🤗 Hope you make good progress in the month you have for this project. Cheers! 😁
SO COOL!!!!!!
We'll see...
Cheers for watching 😃
hahahahahahahah@@SailingSeabird
Great move. Less cleanup, more work completed🎉
Make the most of not having to live in your work environment 😃🍻🥂
Thanks for the laughs and the great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Cheers for watching 😃
What a nice home away from home for a month! Good luck with all the interior work. You two are an A Team!
Hiya Ray,
Hope you're well.
Thanks so much!
The grinding is a dust nightmare.
Cheers for watching 😃
Nice place for a while....! Enjoy it
It really is!
A lot less dusty.
Cheers for watching 😃
Shame your life gets controlled by an algorithm, but that’s probably a deeper topic of conversation. Anyhow, you guys tick my algorithm. Don’t get too comfy in your new home, seabird still needs your love and attention.
Moving over to blue boat makes absolute sense whilst working on the interior of Seabird. Now all you need is a truck load of elbow grease and a container full of motivation to get through the work in a month. Have every faith in the A team (aka Marina and Stuart). Sending lots of love ❤
Hiya,
It's slowly getting there.
There's no way back now.
We don't have sofas and we have less of a floor.
Thank you for being there.
Always missing you x
Cheers for watching 😃
ALWAYS Happy to see the Seabirds. Keep up the good work and don’t forget to feed the donkey………
All seems quite exciting on seabird ATM, must feel nice to be doing some interor stuff, some of that wood you got rid of was hilarious! Really like Seabird she gives the impression of being a solid dependable yacht. hope things go relatively easy in there and yr fingers dont freeze off
I think it was a solid boat years ago.
15 years unloved and abandoned, this is what you get.
Cheers for watching 😃
Good idea moving out for a month. You will make lots of progress.
I hope so!
We'll soon see...
Cheers for watching 😃
Its good to have a change from living on site. Opportunity to make great progress.
Awesome videos thanks 👍
The product you are chipping out of the bilge is 'Q' Cells - which is a lightweight, microscopic glass bubbles, used as filler with Polyester & Epoxy Resins.
Oh, we've never worked with it. It's pretty solid.
Cheers for watching 😃
Glad you can get the interior started. Too bad the water tank didn’t fit😢. Keep up the good work!
It will be interesting to see the changes inside the boat. The powerboat looks like a luxury liner compared to the present state of SeaBird.. Enjoy the month there. By the end of the month SeaBird should be posh.
We'll see.
It's going to be a busy month, that's for sure.
Cheers for watching 😃
What a boat!!🎉😂❤
You`re making Great progresss
I hope so!
A lot to do on the inside.
Hopefully start getting some of it done.
Cheers for watching 😃
Really good idea switch up winter work to inside the boat. Very happy to see more of you guys instead of snow and skis😂
love these guys ..shes so sweet and hes dry as old toast
Good luck with it.
Thank you.
A busy month ahead.
We will have a floor one day!
I like that blue
Build a new seat around the tank. Remake. Remodel.
Best idea to move out during rebuilding the inside.
What a horror that steel boat is. I hate rust! Bad experiences owning several oldtimer cars ;-)
Love the Princess Leia look Marina rocking😂
Your videos are always enjoyable.
You move off your boat....to move into a different boat. Can't wait to learn why. :) peace
Common guys don’t be lazy, sand the whole thing…and go bit by bit… we love 💕 the boat jobs, and we relate and feel the aching 4 you, but don’t cut corner on the refit
A challenge to get all the work done in a month, I am sure you will manage it, good luck.
Great job. The new home will boost your morale a lot. To come after a hard day work, back in a clean home is gold worthy!! ❤
So true!
Dust free...
Cheers for watching 😃
i know that the tank did not fit on the starboard side, but have you considered placing it on the port side? What about altering the port side where the galley seating is located? If you were to make that into an oversized settee and use a portable table, you could probably fit the tank over there, and the settee would double as a deep sofa for Netflix and chill time or as an extra berth for company!!!
That's awesome, things should get a bit easier now. All the best. Keep up the good work. SV Kiwi Lady Opua Bay of islands New Zealand 👍🏿😅
Thank you! Will do!
Cheers for watching 😃
Very soon you will be back home in a new Seabird sailboat. Everything new in internal area.
Hope so!
Still a long way off.
Hope you've had a good week.
Cheers for watching and commenting. We like seeing the comments from the regulars.
Thank you 😊
I LOVE your new digs. Important to be comfy while you’re working hard on Seabird. 😎🥰❤️❤️❤️
Hiya,
Hope you are well.
It makes life a bit easier.
Dirty area, clear area.
Wondering how this month is going to go.
Cheers for watching 😃
We look forward to your comments.
@@SailingSeabird very wise of you. If we had the option, we would definitely take advantage of it. We’re only working on the boat on weekends, as it is four hours away, and my husband has a Monday through Friday onsite job. (I’m legally blind and can no longer drive.) We’ll head to the boat tomorrow, and I’ll keep sanding the good old lazerette. 😂😂😂 Enjoy your week! 😎💕💕💕🥰
Great videos
Happy you are able to tackle some of the inside projects.
Keep up the good work
Thanks, will do!
Cheers for watching 😃
channel is great
Good move! Sorry there was no shot of the outside of the boat you will be living on for a while. Good luck with the demo!
We'll get some footage of this motor boat.
Cheers for watching 😃
Have a lot of fun
Good morning from Port Colborne Ontario Canada
Having been the owner of a boat in disrepair, I sympathize with you both
There IS a light at the end of the tunnel. Keep up the good work. I realize this video is a few years old, I just wanted to say hello.
You must really love Seabird, and as long as you have the energy keep going. I'm rooting for you both! Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
Energy is a very strong word...
😂🤣😅
Cheers for watching 😃
Good opportunity to get a lot of work done if you are out of the boat temporarily. Fair winds.
Thank you for the support.
Cheers for watching 😃
My sister sent me poster of a sailboat sailing along. The quote was -" Go as far as you can see, and when you get there you can see further." I think of my projects that way. Another metaphor I use as far as the confusion of what to do next is something like: progress is something like beer fermenting, it just takes time. The sorting out happens when you sleep. and when you wake up... it dawns on you what to do today. It's been fun watching your progress. good decision to move out to get the inside bottom sorted out. Good luck. That weird stuff you were chipping out may be some kind of urea-formaldehyde two part pour in foam. just a guess.
Love the new water tank from Bob, nice new digs and the view is marvelous. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks, you too!
Cheers for watching 😃
If that blue tank is a thermoplastic you could try heating it with a heat gun and form that one corner to fit better. Just a thought.
Well done. Enjoy the new digs.
Totally awesome, glad to see you starting to work on the floor of your boat 🚢
Us too!
It's been driving us crazy.
Cheers for watching 😃
There certainly is a charm to your new place.
It's like a little cottage.
Cheers for watching 😃
Great work keep it going
We will! 😊
Gre😊at canal boat. Good move for the winter!
It sure is!
He’s not a Donkey he’s a noble steed
Love the channel
Your friend had ‘black mill scale’ on the metal it can be removed with Muratic acid ( but never works for me!).
I like you moving out . If you could get or have one of the lithium battery packs with solar panels maybe you could go off grid . But they are expensive to but , some channels get given them for a review!!!. But they would also bd good on seabird later instead of lithium batteries and all the extra controllers etc they have everything in them , Jackery, or BLUETTI are 2 common types.
I will probably get one for my boat when I’m ready for batteries.
Cheers Warren
Hej Marina&Stew I love your new Houseboat :-) Cool stuff an keep going on! Imagin how nice the new Interior of Seabird will look when you're done with it :-) Have fun!!!! Cheers , Kay
Woah! , I thought for one sad second at the beginning you'd both given up when you were in that different boat. Thank Gods, you're still keeping it together, it makes sense to move out and I should have copped that sooner. Another great video this week, thanks for all your hard work in making it possible for us to watch. See you both next week. xx
Tbh we were aiming for mid to late September but a few things came up...
Happy we are now able to work on the inside.
Cheers for watching 😃
I was thinking yall was changing ownership, glad your not . keep going yall.
Not yet!
The jobs not done so can't quit.
Not yet 😅🤣😂
Needed to be done, that water damaged ply hurt my eyes every time I saw it. Good luck and fast work.
Same here.
Some of it has already gone..
Cheers for watching 😃
nice new digs :)
Hi, you're doing a great job 👍 one thought for that water tank - if its just one corner that makes it not fit, you could try heating it with a heat gun and molding it to fit. Good luck.
A few have said similar.
We'll see...
Not there yet. Once the tanks are in the bilge, we can move on to the next step.
Cheers for watching 😃
Please give some more thought to making that tank fit, perhaps Bob will have a suggestion.
Found you folks last night and I’ve enjoyed watching your journey with your projects. Having been a career commercial fisherman I’m longing for the ocean again.
At first I was curious how you were funding the project but I’ve watched enough videos to figure it out, brilliant.
I’m excited to see what you guys do next.
Enjoying your content, hope you two are having fun!
Yes we are!
Glad you enjoy.
Cheers for watching 😃
Great to see your tenacity! Re batteries, Im pretty sure they should be kept away from the heat of the engine room, especially Lithium. Worth checking.
Great point!
It's a fair size engine room.
Plus the battery box will have its own fan/blower.
But I'll give it an evening on Google 😂
Cheers for watching 😃
So pleased you have a place to live away from the boat as you both have a life to live and been in a separate place gives you both chill out time away from your work place which is vital to maintain a healthy relationship ❤
L
True, I couldn't agree more.
Cheers for watching 😃
Nice to see what you two have been up to this week always entertaining I have been doing fiberglass repairs on my boat this week in Devon so thinking of you and good luck Kev
Hiya Kev,
Fibreglass work is like painting, you are finished with sanding for a while, I hate how dusty prep work can be.
Cheers for watching 😃
You can tell Lysander that he’s lucky I have 63ft two sides, so 126ft to do next year, I say the same, every year so it really needs doing now. As you can imagine I am procrastinating every year.
I enjoy watching the progress. Keep it up 👍
Took me a moment to realise that was the donkey's tail...... looking forward to seeing some progress inside.
Good work!
Thanks!
Cheers for watching 😃
I would concentrate on the engine compartment and main saloon first because the cabin is not that bad .
That's the basic plan.
Grinder and prep this area.
Add some wood, make a floor.
Sounds easy...
Cheers for watching 😃
Great idea to move out during this process - hope you get most done in a month 💪
Us too! 😊💪🏼
The tank is almost certainly polyethylene (HDPE). It can be cut, and re-welded really easily with a hot air welder. Seriously, plastic welding is almost child's play and the welders are pretty cheap. I built the tanks for our bus as a welding novice, they've survived several thousand km of bumpy NZ roads with no problems - so far 😂. If there is a place that does plastic car bumper repair or tank fabrication, modding what you have would not be difficult for them.
That sounds like a great idea.
Nothing to lose...
Cheers for watching 😃
Yes I think you are interesting and charming!
Oh thank you!
Just a couple trying to fix up an old boat.
Cheers for watching 😃
Here is an extra comment. I have no idea if the algorithm cares... Hope you have a great week!!
Thank you! You too!
Cheers for watching 😃
Great idea to move out, I think you will be able to get more done by not worrying about having to live there also. 😊 There are lots of boat in that marina
The amount of dust is ridiculous.
Cheers for watching 😃
I think it is called chokfast , epoxy damping type of filler used for moter mounts etc, good you have nice livingspace now,and focus on the interior of seabird, like always love your your vids ,keep smiling😊👍💪
Oh dang, that motorboat sure looks nice :D Good timing too I guess :D
Love your channel ❤
