I highly recommend using the Thief's Ring and being patient behind the pillars (waiting a few seconds after his eyes turn yellow). Once you get past the right pillars, the left is generally a lot easier.

@@ignisinfernal1843 I literally just stood behind one of the pillars after you break the first pile of debris and got one shotted, several times even. Yeah I can't figure this out for the life of me, even after watching the video. First section, absolutely stuck. I wait patiently at the pillars. I can't it make past the 2nd rock section. I always get hit in that 2nd section. Don't want to knock the videos, but they always seem to explain what the player should do rather than how the boss works. Like... No punch? /rant: This boss design is so poor that I've thought about quitting the game multiple times.
I feel like the thief ring was nerfed on this boss because he must smells the old spice on my body and I get punched regardless of the ring on or not. 😞
Something that the tutorial doesn't tell you: When the eyes of the Dragon go red (meaning hes agroing,) there is a slight, but really slight time between him seeing you, and then pulling the animation for him to punch (this will help you more in the second phase.) Also, in the first phase, you will have to wait for him to look left before breaking the pillars, but make sure to start running towards them to break them when he STARTS looking left, that's because he spends only one second looking left before turning his head to the right.
love how fanboys say "demons souls" to justify a retarded boss fight design. these games requiers too much accuracy generally while the mechanics are not accurate at all. Bloodborne is their finest work no doubt, though Im not a fan of victorian era.
Came here looking for answers but still didn't find them. Doing exactly what you're doing. I stand behind the pillars, he sees me every single time. Idk if this is a bug or what but no amount of patience has helped me here. I've tried every single possible hiding spot and he always sees me and one shots me.
Same, sees me behind the pillars, hits me behind them, second phase the flame ignites the entire arena so can't escape when he sees me even when behind a pillar with the theifs ring and tried using the cloak spell, it's bullshit
I don't think it matters which way he's looking. Tried going exactly where he looks and seemed like it made no difference to me. His eyes get red when looking away too. You just have to get back behind cover quickly. Using Thief Ring, not sure if that makes a difference.
Not sure if its been patched or something, but as of December 2023 this method is definitely NOT as easy as you make it look. Even with thief ring, he always sees me and knows where I am.
The soulsborne universe is weird, in that some bosses for some are easy peasy - while others are absolute nightmares. Flamelurker, first try. This muppet however, kept me trying and trying. Never thought about his eyes changing colour however, so thanks for that! :)
They definitely patched or updated this fight at some point. He still attacks when his eyes are yellow, and he attacks randomly as well, meaning I'll be "safe" behind a pillar for literally minutes at a time without moving an inch, and he'll suddenly decide to attack (especially with fire in phase 2.) This is a needlessly difficult and annoying fight.
Hi! Were you able to defeat him? I'm also stuck in this boss fight. Tried the thief ring and the cloak, doesnt seem to work. I Also tried shooting magic but it just seems like it doesnt hit the rocks 🥲
I haven't taken the thief ring off since I got it near the start, seems a very logical choice, unlike only being able to wear 2 rings when you have 8 fingers and 2 thumbs
If you rescue Sage Freke from the prison you can exchange the Tower Knight's demon soul for a spell called Warding which greatly raises defence. It will allow you to tank a punch or two. Unfortunately it doesn't help for his fire attacks. No amount of fire resistance seemed to prevent me from getting one shotted by that. At that stage hiding behind the pillars and staying hidden is your only hope. Using magic to destroy the rubble from behind the pillar will make it more trivial
Bro I was trying to get him with the hands of god at the end for trophy and I got burned by his mist - didn’t even touch it and got burnt to a crisp. No fire protection in the world could help lol
Sometimes you get lucky after breaking the last rock wall and you can move right through. Alternatively, you can also wait behind the safe pillar. Wait for him to idle (yellow eyes) for a few seconds and then run for it. If you have any fire resistance boosting gear/spells, it's ideal for this section to make it out alive.
It's so annoying, but i got lucky after several times and he, for some reason, started his fire breath on the opposite spot, so it didn't even come close to me lol
This guide did help me a lot in understanding how the boss works so thank you. But the second part where he uses flame breath is very broken. I'm behind the pillars and he still sees me and no matter how hard I try I cannot outrun the flame breath and I cant run forward since he does it in the direction I need to run to. Hate this boss. Made my tendency turn dark for no reason lol
Thanks for the guide! This worked first try for me! Royalty class, I was able to use soul rays from behind pillars to knock out each debris block. Used the thief’s ring.
I think we all agree the Dragon God is one of the worst boss fights in a Souls game from a gameplay perspective, but you have to admit the Dragon God itself looks freaking awesome
Thanks bro for the video, I really appreciate it, thanks to you I was able to beat him, although I had to spend a lot of moon grass because he caught me red-handed like three times, but it's okay, I'll get him back, how sad that you don't have a full tutorial, I was following another guy's tutorial and he said that you can search the internet for a better way to beat him.👍✌
3:42 exact spot that saved me!! when you go Down The stairs you slightly inch closer to the first debri that is blocking your path ( not exactly close but so that you can see the three other objects blocking your path they can all be gotten from that spot) from there you can destroy the three debri pillars. After destroying those 3 debri you run towards spot shown at 3:42 and you can shoot the final two debri from there 👍 soul arrow is key
After the first ballista it was relatively easy to manage his aggro and beat the boss, but in the first phase I had to run back to the entrance and let him punch forward to reset him. Otherwise, no amount of waiting worked, after getting a hit in he would immediately come in for a punch and flatten me no matter what. I don't know if that's a bug, but without a full entrance reset he is too fast to get a single hit in without guaranteeing your death.
On the 2nd phase, if you hide for long enough, he starts writhing in pain with his eyes closed. This gives you a very large window of time to advance. Long enough to destroy 3 or more pillars and get to the next hiding spot.
Little tip I just accidentally found, if you have a catalyst and soul arrow by this point buy the fragrant ring off patches, soul arrow doesn’t agro him like a sword swing does
Does anybody know what the little glowing statue thing is on the left side when you first walk in? The little crystal guy is there. There's a bunch of rubble that you can't break blocking it?
This game keeps getting on my nerves with cheap enemy placement and other random BS like the geometry throwing you off ledges, but this has to be the low-point. I try to run, I try to hide, I try to time it with his head looking different directions, but I see no connection between my actions and what the boss does, except "You died!"
Huh. Beat him on the next try after complaining, still feels like I just got lucky. Punched me once, grilled me once at the end. I GUESS for upstairs, your timing is like when he looks to the far right after he blinked three times. Light clothes, thief's ring, DON'T run. You have plenty of time it seems, but he'll hear you? Downstairs at least appears like he's looking away from you, just drink some water or make a sandwich while you wait for this bore-chore of a stealth-gimmick-boss to turn a blind eye to you.
If anyone needs help, this is how to use the thief ring. If he sees you and his eyes turn red, just hide behind a pillar. But if he's already got his hand up to punch, it's too late. Hope this helps
Nope, he still sees you through the pillar. Even with the Thief Ring equipped. This boss seems fundamentally broken, even more in the remake than in the PS3 original, and I actually am pissed at Bluepoint for not fixing it.
DETAILED GUIDE FOR POOR UNFORTUNATE SOULS Only reason why I'm writing this guide is because I died to this damn thing so many times that I eventually figured out how to get through it without a hitch. Hopefully this helps other poor unfortunate souls so that we can waste less time on gimmick bosses like this... TIPS BEFORE YOU TRY A RUN... -Thief's Ring might help give you abit more time before he spots you (but actually not sure if that's even true). At least psychologically it helps, lol -Try to be as light as possible so that you can run fast. To me, this whole fight most of the time is kind of all or nothing. Meaning you either do it perfectly or you will probably die from one mistake anyway. As such, doing a naked run might even be a smart choice. -Equip a heavy-hitting enough weapon that can clear most debris in one/two hits. I used the Dragon Long Sword+2 I believe and the running R1 pretty much one-shot most debris Dragon God "fight" is split into 3 phases 1)Disabling his Left Arm 2)Disabling his Right Arm 3)Disabling his damn FACE and LIFE And its about doing what you need to do while he is in a relaxed/de-aggro state (yellow eyes). When you start to do stuff (eg. running into his view, destroying debris), he starts to progressively become aggro. When he is fully aggro-ed (red eyes), he will attack and probably one-shot you. The key term here though is 'progressively', meaning not immediately. Therefore, the whole idea of this entire fight is to take small actions (which inevitably will start to aggro him) and then quickly get out of his line of sight again before he becomes fully aggro, which would then de-aggro him back to a relaxed state. 1)Disabling his Left Arm Phase 1 is the hardest as you are right there on his eye level. That means you have less time before he spots you to destroy debris and progress forward. When you pass through the fog door, just sprint right up to just before the main center window. He will notice you and punch the main window, as long as you aren't too close you shouldn't take any damage. You can then move into position behind the first pillar. His head movement at this phase is mainly facing the right side of the screen (which unfortunately is where you need to go), but he does turn to the center/left for a short while now and then. You can wait until just as he is starting to turn away from the right side of the screen to then run forward to destroy the debris and then run back to hide behind the first pillar. Should be 2 debris piles to destroy to clear the path to the 2nd pillar. When the time is right, move to hide behind the 2nd pillar and repeat the same strategy, coming back to hide behind the 2nd pillar instead. Should be 2 debris piles as well I think. Once the way forward is completely clear and the timing is right, sprint from the 2nd pillar all the way to the right side of the screen to where the 1st ballista is located and activate it to end phase 1. 2)Disabling his Right Arm Phase 2 is considerably easier as Dragon God looks away from you longer, giving you a longer window to do your debris clearing. Going down the nearby stairs from the 1st ballista, you will face a row of 3 pillars. His head movement at this phase is such that he will look down and to his left in your general direction then look back up directly in front him and then look up and roar, before repeating this pattern of behaviour. So same thing, wait till he starts to look away from you then run forward to destroy the next pile of debris before coming back to hide behind the nearest pillar. While it is tempting to get greedy and try to destroy multiple debris piles in one go, safest bet is to be patient and destroy one at a time and go back to hide behind the nearest pillar. Remember, one mistake and you have to do this crap all over again... Eventually, you will reach the last debris pile near the 3rd pillar and you need to make a run for it after clearing that pile as he will become aggro and start to breathe fire. There will be one or two more debris piles along the way but just clear them fast and sprint all the way to the 2nd ballista. Activating it ends Phase 2. 3)Disabling his damn FACE and LIFE After the cutscene, come back to the middle and go down to either side of his head and slowly attack his chin horn until he dies. Be wary whenever hot steam comes out of his mouth though as that can still damage and even kill you, which would be the saddest, most stupid death ever if it wasn't so funny. And that's it. Hope this helps you clear this segment faster than I did. Ugh
This is the comment I was searching for!. I thought it was a glowing pillar. Your talking about on the left path immediately before the first pillar right ?
Don’t know if anyone has commented this but I just beat it after like 30 deaths, not sure if the thief ring helps but don’t sprint otherwise he will agro straight away, rolling and normal running seems ok. Also the pillars are finicky if your even slightly in the wrong place he will attack.
I go behind a pillar and he still sees me and punches me anyways so what's the point of going behind the pillars... Also thief's ring does nothing as he aggros as soon as I pop out immediately. Sorry, this guide is incorrect as this fight is completely rng from my experience.
I don’t understand what i’m doing differently than you, i have the thief ring equipped, im being patient, im hitting the pillars once or twice and retreating but towards the last pillar of phase 2 I always get caught, watching your gameplay he just forgets about you. Even when he’s looking the opposite way and I inch to the next pillar, he still spots me and kills me with his fire attack.
Thanks a bunch! Followed your guide and finished 'em on the first try even without a Thief's Ring! All about patience, hitting the barriers quickly and staying behind those pillars until the coast is clear.
Why does it feel like no matter how patient I am during the second phase, as soon as I pass the 3rd pillar he flamethrowers my ass as I'm running towards the stairs. Every time. I'm constantly watching the direction of his head too wtf
Honestly, you can just use the spell to hide yourself instead of the thieves ring and leave those slots for something else unless you’re using your spell slots for something else that you consider more important for that boss

1)Disabling his Left Arm
Phase 1 is the hardest as you are right there on his eye level.
2)Disabling his Right Arm
Phase 2 is considerably easier as Dragon God looks away from you longer, giving you a longer window to do your debris clearing.
3)Disabling his damn FACE and LIFE
After the cutscene, come back to the middle and go down to either side of his head and slowly attack his chin horn until he dies. Be wary whenever hot steam comes out of his mouth though as that can still damage and even kill you, which would be the saddest, most stupid death ever if it wasn't so funny.
And that's it. Hope this helps you clear this segment faster than I did. Ugh
This was the best one to look at
Damn dragon-boy looking good on this remake!
He is swole as always 😳
using magic from cover instead of melee to break the barriers makes this a really easy fight
Idk if you’ll see this but your comment just helped me kill it… cheers!
@@jz5836 you're welcome!
Very helpful first tried him after this video
i came here because when i wanted to walk a bit away from the fog he always kept punching the spot and i couldnt pass.
anyway, great guide, thanks man
Best guide for this boss on YT. Thx! Subscribed.
Glad it helped!
Got it first try after watching this video. Thanks!
There is a weapon on the path to the left that does a perfect straight hit on those rocks.
How do you get to it? It's caved in
@@pi1299 need pure white world tendency
This is the comment I was searching for!. I thought it was a glowing pillar. Your talking about on the left path immediately before the first pillar right ?
Can't belive they kept this fight the same. Its utter trash. Surviving to first catapult feels like RNG
Variaty is interesting, not trash
@@realramas variety is interesting. This one is trash however.
Thank you helped a lot
Glad it helped!
Good guide props been lomg time since i played way back in 09
Thank you man! I appreciate it
Just beat him using this guide, so yes it still works. Thank you brother
What’s the glowing white light between the columns at the top. I cannot access this.
Don’t know if anyone has commented this but I just beat it after like 30 deaths, not sure if the thief ring helps but don’t sprint otherwise he will agro straight away, rolling and normal running seems ok. Also the pillars are finicky if your even slightly in the wrong place he will attack.
What’s the white tendency option on the left as soon as you start the fight?
Thank you. You are a savior
I go behind a pillar and he still sees me and punches me anyways so what's the point of going behind the pillars...
Also thief's ring does nothing as he aggros as soon as I pop out immediately.
Sorry, this guide is incorrect as this fight is completely rng from my experience.
Thank you for this video! ^u^
Thank you! Beaten all the soulsborne minus this and elden ring so starting with demon souls first
I don’t understand what i’m doing differently than you, i have the thief ring equipped, im being patient, im hitting the pillars once or twice and retreating but towards the last pillar of phase 2 I always get caught, watching your gameplay he just forgets about you. Even when he’s looking the opposite way and I inch to the next pillar, he still spots me and kills me with his fire attack.
THANKS! I stopped watching when I realized you're just supposed to drop his aggro, I thought the aggro thing was it being glitchy at first.
Got it my first try after this, thanx that was like try 50
Thank you saved my day
Awesome tutorial thanks! Out of curiosity what microphone do you use?
Thank you! I use the Shure SM7B.
@@McRaptor awesome thanks!
This is the only souls game when its a boss back to back
I appreciate it man super good walkthrough
Good God that was hard 😳 😫 but I finally beat this imprisoned God thanks for the guide ♡
This is a very well done tip video, thanks
Dragon God destroyers.......before no hit runners existed!
I have massive trpuble at the 2nd in this fight. I can't unaggro him
Ta matey, I had no bloody idea on how to do this
What level is your crescent falchion? Or does it not really matter what level?
Level doesn't matter for this fight!
Thanks man other guides just didnt explain it like cat mouse did baiting him breaking the pillars
How do you get the glowing item on the top left at the beginning when you walking toward him?
Save and exit at the fog wall if hes still alive, reload the game in 'cinematic' display, run through the rocks
The world's my terrifying TT games Lego boss fight.
Super helpful 🎉
the problem with these kinds of videos is they dont show the hundreds of tries it took to make this, because of all the rng.
Ya it's a guide... Why would they show u the hundreds of mistakes done during a guide lol
hey don’t listen to the haters, you rock, i did it, not complicated, and you explained it very thoroughly!
Honestly, you can just use the spell to hide yourself instead of the thieves ring and leave those slots for something else unless you’re using your spell slots for something else that you consider more important for that boss
I’m doing everything you’re doing and getting crushed I fucking hate the design of some of these bosses
Thanks man this helped a bunch!
I lost 17,000 souls on him because I was curious after fire gremlin 😭😭😭
"second section is quite a bit easier" bro is smoking crack
