- The apple doesn't fall far from the tree in Loretta Lynn's family. During 'American Idol's season 22 auditions, the late country star's granddaughter, Emmy Russell, tried out with an original song. Judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan were stunned to learn about her famous family. 'American Idol' airs Sundays on ABC.

About 15 years ago I was at a Loretta Lynn concert and a young granddaughter of hers sang “Free Falling” by Tom Petty. She really made the song sound sad, which I guess it is. Conveyed a lot of emotion. Wonder if this is the same granddaughter.

The judges acted impressed but I think it was fake? Look how many standing ovations they gave other contestants, this they just sat there and looked stupid, didn't applaud at all. I think they felt obligated to put her thru. I loved her Grandma and I don't think Emmy will even be a close second to her?

Patsy is Lorettas daughter she was named after Patsy Cline. Loretta had twins Patsy and Peggy. So yes this is her Grandaughter. I think Peggy had her older.

If she really wanted to pave her own way, why did she start by saying her Grandma is Loretta Lynn? She influenced the judges just by saying so. You really think that the judges are gonna say no to one of the most, if not the most iconic country stars ever? Yeah right. As soon as she said it out loud, she became Loretta Lynn's granddaughter, and not only raised what people are going to expect from her, but has influenced whether or not she is being judged solely on her talent, in an honest, unbiased way. She had a different last name she should have kept it quiet. You can even see it in the comments. It's all about Lotetta now, so even viewer opinion has become biased.

Ehhh, you cant force musical talent, lorretta lynn had an ungodly singing voice, its not something you can replicate with money, or planting industry plants, or even the musicians family members, that lightning in a bottle cannot be replicated, forced, or bought, she alright i guess, but any capable person with enough guidance can write something like this, not hating, but its mediocre at best, and it feels like theyre planting her in the industry.

I love Loretta. I remember Emmy's Mom Patsy and her twin, I think Peggy. They would dress with little cowgirl hats and I think they were on Mike Douglas or Merv Griffin, or Dinah Shore, (early/mid70's) anyway they were maybe 8 and her other children were grown, she said they had money and could spend time with the twins, where they couldn't with the older kids. Patsy was named after Patsy Cline and I think Peggy was after Peggy Lee, but not 100% sure on Peggy.

Loretta Lynn was the real deal. I met her when she was on her USO tour and she was all the way to a remote place in Korea.

On British and I love country music, especially Dolly Parton. My favourite song of hers is the bridge Tammy Wynette as well, but I really don’t think she’s got that great voice and if she wasn’t Loretta Lynn’s daughter, I don’t think they would’ve said yes I mean let’s be real, she hasn’t got much vibrato or tone but she’s got a great story
I agree with this, you can't force musical talent to happen, the only reason she's given the opportunity is because the talent her grandmother had, Loretta had an ungodly singing voice, but now that Loretta isn't here, they're trynna plant her grand daughter into the industry, probably give her some ghost writers, this song she wrote is mediocre at best, and anyone with even a little knowledge in song writing could write a thousand songs like this, and this is coming from someone who's been in a band for 5 years, about to drop our first album this year.
The judges said yes to some far worse. First, she has the potential to become a star. She got looks, she can carry a tune and who knows she has tricks coming to Hollywood. For sure, she will prepare for it.
