Charley Pride broke down color barriers with his voice alone. Alot of people at the time believed him to be a White country singer, imagine their surprise after learning and singing his songs on the radio then finding out later he was in fact a black man. Content of his character rather than his skin color proved to be the key to his success and the softening of racial bias during the turbulent times then. I miss shows like that where truly humble people are honored and accept their accolades with dignity. Thanks for posting this video.😎👌🇺🇲
I thought he was white when I first heard him. And when I finally saw him for the first time, I liked him even more. Got to see him in person too. A great country artist and gentleman. RIP

As much as ppl want to believe that the US is made up of a lot of racists, the truth is that most ppl just don't care & haven't for a very long time.

I was born in Helena, Montana. When I was a toddler, (about 60 years ago) my mom and dad used to go dancing at a bar called the "Silver Spur." Their favorite attraction there was Charlie Pride. Charlie worked at a lead smelter plant, played baseball for that company's team, and played country music in the juke joints. My mom was a cashier at the Safeway grocery store, and Mrs. Pride always waited in line to go through my mom's checkout. They became friends, and had great conversations together. When Charlie made the big time, we would watch him on T.V. Even though he and his family lived in Montana for only a few years, my mom and dad had this attitude that "Local home boy does good!" They were very proud of him, and talked about him and his family all through the years.

My mama and daddy got to see him in concert before I was born. They said he stayed after and signed autographs until security told him he had to leave or go to jail. It wasn’t hard.. blacks just didn’t do it.. yet you’re ok wiry racism against whites in music still.
@@VictorLugosi Look up DeFord Bailey.
@@sonofadeadbeat3051 What is your point? Bailey wasn't even born when bluegrass/hillbilly/country music first began in the US. He played hillbilly (Billy: an Irish/Scottish term for poor, often degenerate people) music.
I had the honor of having dinner with him and his lovely bride at a celebrity golf event for cancer patients in Northwest Arkansas back in the 90’s. I was struck by their kindness and down to earth approachability. It was like dining with old friends. He really impressed my family, including our son, who passed about 10 years later.
Charley(Charlie)Pride was the best country singer in the world I loved him, though he is gone ,i will remember him always.
So sad that you lost your son but the sadness will also bring the happy memory of meeting the pride of country music, Charley Pride.
I loved Charlie Pride all of my life! Loved his voice! He was genuine!
Hello 👋 Rhonda.
I loved Charle.Pride. (Kiss. An in .i Angel. I'm the.moring
I love this so much! My grandmother met Charlie Pride and said he was the kindest man she ever met. She was a bartender and the owners tried to stop him from coming in but my grandmother refused. Small story, but these were the lessons we didn't know we needed to be taught.
Because of that story he became my favorite singer. Kiss an angel good morning will always make me think of grandma and Charlie.

The pride beaming on his wifes face is one of the most beautiful and heartfelt things I've seen in a long time. Charlie was and always will be true legion who will always be loved and cherished.

Yes, pride but also love. You can see she still loved that man every time they panned to her in one of his awards ceremonies. Can't fake that.
Hello there how are you doing today, I hope you are having a wonderful day?
One of America's greatest ever! He was a class act through and through. Saw him live as a teenager. There will never be another Charley Pride. Rest in peace!
I saw in concert as a teenager,too!
Awesome talent. I wish today’s society would watch this and take note of the fact that his dad listened to the Grand Ole Opry.
His music takes me back to when I was a young man. Now I'm old and want to thank Charlie for all the memories.
Imagine how much better off this world would be with 100 million Charlie Prides walking around.
@@browningbelgium2326 For Sure.
My mama and daddy got to see him in concert before I was born. They said he stayed after and signed autographs until security told him he had to leave or go to jail. He said he would sign autographs at the jail if necessary. Needless to say he didn't go to jail. I grew up on Charlie Pride and ALL the GREATS. "Kiss An Angel Good Morning" is a song that I live by because everyday I am at home I kiss my wife and say good morning.
If you love country music you have to love Charlie.
Well said
Absolutely! He definitely was one of the best! So thankful to have seen and heard him perform in concert on several occasions!!!
An epic moment. A man who didn't let ridiculous minds stop what he enjoyed. What a pioneer.
I remember when I first heard "Crystal Chandeliers" and I was stunned by how beautiful and heartfelt the song was/is, and always will be, and how this country singer did such a wonderful job. Then I found out some people loved the song but hated him because he is black and I lost it!, I was mad as hell! A man takes the time to pour his heart into a song that you fell so good about you dance to it and than tell their selves I don't care about the person! Rest In Peace Charlie Pride.
@@velikovskysghost I don't think I've heard that one! And yes, what a fucking ridiculous mindset to decide you "hate" a song after loving it.
This world will never cease to disappoint.
@@chrishowell6549 Totally!, I still have hope for humanity on our Earth but am losing it fast. Humanity lost one of its most staunch supporters on Feb 7th 2023 Wallace (Wal) Thornhill passed away and we have lost one of the brightest men humanity ever knew see (Stars in an Electric Universe) (The Long Path to Understanding Gravity) just to get an idea on how much he knew.
Love those wonderful Country Legends ❤❤ As George Jones sings Who's gunna fill there shoes!! Cause they're one of a kind! 💙💙 ⚘⚘ 🎶🎶

What an American legend, thanks Charlie, may the LORD hold you close to his heart!
Don't judge us all just because we from the country. We love everybody. It's about who you are not what you look like.
Mr. Pride wasn't just just a great entertainer, from everything I've ever seen, he was a genuinely good person.
Such a great man and a great singer!!! RIP.

I grew listening to this mans music with all the ither legends, Johnny Cash, Lynn Anderson, Patsy Cline, Charlie Rich, Hank Williams Sr., Merle Haggard and so many more.

Just watching this has put tears in my eyes , raising up in the West Indies on such country of Charley pride was the way of life and has been one of my favourite artist , so sad you gone too soon🙏🏽 we love you in 758 .
Tears in my eyes at such a thrilling heartfelt ovation and genuine surprise and humility...What a great star and man !
The surprise on his face is absolutely priceless
I like to think of Charlie Pride as the Nat King Cole of country music. Both voices as soft as velvet, putting them at the top of their singing genres. Charley deserved his success and being named a Living Legend. So sweet that Loretta got to be the one to surprise him that night.
I agree! I miss Nat King Cole too!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
humble man...my dads favorite c/w singer....
Gosh id trade every single mainstream popular country artist from today for just one Charlie Pride. Beautiful man, so humble and classy.
My moms favorite Charley Pride she and my dad love country music❤

It’s hard to believe he’s gone. I loved his voice and the man that he was.
This video made me smile, but the look of pride on his wife’s face as he walked to the stage made me cry. Nothing like having the support and love of a spouse who will show up for you every time. So beautiful to watch this man receive such a well-deserved honor. Rest in peace Mr. Pride.❤
