      @@calleymichelle1510 I'm pretty sure John felt the same way as a lot of us, especially if you've been watching his channel for a while. When I saw the signs of psychological horror coming up, I groaned. When the weapon were removed, I rolled my eyes and braced for the cringe.
      But then something weird happened. The pacing didn't follow the beats I expected. It felt slightly off, but in reality, it maintained a surgical precision, occasionally catching me off guard. The sound design was pitch perfect. All the details lined up exactly where they were supposed to be, but were still surprising and new. It's uncanny. They took a concept that's been done to death, and were still able to produce one of the best psychological horror sequences I've ever seen. It can only be described as "masterful".
      As John said in the video, this is the kind of thing you'd only ever expect to see in a Team Silent experience. Capcom1 made me feel like an idiot for ever questioning their ability to pull off any horror sequence they set their minds to.

    Fresh fruit has a symbolic history in art. In old renaissance paintings, for example, it signified fertility and abundance. I'm assuming the moldy fruit is referencing a stark contrast to that. The violin/string instruments shown later in this video could symbolize sadness, fragility, and death. Nice bit of symbolism in this game.

    • @redisthecoolestcolour
      @redisthecoolestcolour ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's also a great intentional artistic error in one of the paintings. Lady D's painting of her daughters is trying to make it look as though it was painted around the same time as hers. Except their hair, dresses and the general organisation of the painting come from three entirely different periods. It's great because if you're familiar with art, it looks off, but when you read into the timeline, you can see it's intentional.

      @@unslaadkrosis9435 For the sake of historical accuracy, I translated this article (www.natgeo.ro/articole/romania/istorie-ro/9662-de-ce-te-cheam-escu), instead of just posting my opinion.
      "Why is your name… escu? How did the suffix "escu" become a Romanian brand, such as the ending "ov" or "ski" in Slavic, the particle "o" in Irish or "di" in Italian.
      Text: Cătălin Gruia
      If you read this article in Romanian, you are very likely to be a "… escu". The story of your family name begins with an ancestor who founded the village. Let's take the example given by the historian N. A. Constantinescu in his Romanian Onomastic Dictionary: around 1820, Negoiță Diaconul's band founded a village, near Pucioasa. The settlement was called Diaconești (the adjective suffix shows possession, the fact that the village belongs to the Diaconești family, who own the land in common). Around the third generation, when the riot broke out, one of the component families took the name Diaconescu.
      This process of forming "… escilor", in three steps - founding ancestor, eponymous village with plural form "ești" (my note: meaning "you are"; for example, Diaconesti literally means "you are deacon") and family name in the form of singular in "escu" - is documented since the fourteenth century ( a Dăbăcescul in 1387 in Wallachia or a Șerbănescu in 1392 in Moldavia remained in documents) and spread in the 15th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, we have another addition to the great national family of "escu": many foreign boyars and merchants took the names of the estates they bought in order to become naturalized and to own the land. This is the case of Tudor Vladimirescu - after the village of Vladimiri, in Jiul de Sus.
      Why is your name… escu?
      „The Romanian suffix -esc, -ească continues the Latin one -iscus, with ancient Indo-European origins (it also seemed to exist in the Thracian-Dacian language, in Paleoslav, etc.), having as Romance correspondences: in Portuguese - esco, in Spanish -isco, in Italian -esco, in Sardinian -iscu “- says Domniţa Tomescu, author of the book Name of a person in Romanian. Historical perspective. Today, the suffix "escu" is a Romanian brand, such as the ending "ov" or "ski" in Slavic, the particle "o" in Irish or "di" in Italian."

      @@evolvingsoul2370 you can say there are a few different accents depending on the area you're living, but the pronunciation for this specific case (and I suppose with names, in general) is the same all over the country, with very slight variations. The NPC's are actually not pronouncing it correctly. John does have a slight accent, but that's understandable given the fact he's not Romanian (I'm referring to the "tre" part, he is pronouncing it in an American sounding way). It's normal, when I'm speaking in English, even though I have years of practice, I know I'll never sound exactly like a native.

      That's how I felt with almost every boss battle in this game sadly. Compared to RE7 when you defeat Jack dunno how many times, R3make, when you battle with the advanced tyrant 3-4 times, you kill these with relative ease. When I saw Dimitrescu's remains mostly intact and a bit fleshy, I just thought this is not the end of it. Well, it was. Kindof a letdown. Miranda's final boss battle was the most underwhelming, compared to how she was hyped up to be this very powerful being capable of turning into anything, and she has like 3 form mostly similar; her attacks were pathetic, hardly got damaged and finished the game with lot of leftover ammo.

    I love these little observations you verbalize that I don't spare a glance at in my run through the game. The obvious (and boring) implication of the spool of yarn on the floor is that Donna noticed Ethan's arrival and fled, dropping the spool of yarn in the process. But I'm also thinking now that it may be that she dropped it in surprise as Ethan opens the door and she's still in that very room-just that she can't be seen due to the hallucinogen. We do see her abruptly appear and disappear at times, so it seems to be a possibility. Just a thought!

    Just once I want him to walk into a house like this and it's just a regular grandma scared af of the crazy dude with a knife. Also with how much he keeps seeing things I keep thinking of how Eveline messed with their minds in 7. Maybe it's that and not a PTSD thing. Idk just a thought

    Its not empty psychological horror gladly, its cosmic psychological horror, where its coming from the protagonists mind but actually manifesting in reality. Reminds me of another game series.

    That "Local fairy tale" in the beginning tells the story about:
    1- The Bat Lord = Vampires, 2 - The Dark Weaver = the yarn you found in the Doll House,
    3 - The Fish King - ? 4 - The Iron Steed with a gear - ?

    • @cyrc9837
      @cyrc9837 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      fish king is probably the “creature” who lives in the swamp and id say the iron steed with the gear is the metal controlling guy... so the witch is mother miranda?

      Yeah I’m pretty sure the Fish king is Moreau and the Iron Steed is Heisenberg, based on the crests in the cave with the old woman in the last episode

    the flowers up towards the beneviento house are what made you hallucinate, also why there's a book on mountainous plants and why your vision went funny at times - I think the game keeps twisting our ankle with this psychological horror thing but i don't think that's the case

  • @xBenjiSx
    @xBenjiSx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    So the hallucinations were enabled by a chemical in those yellow flowers, and Donna could control them because she is a bioweapon, gotcha. It reminded me of visions that Eveline could give to people infected by her mold, and maybe it is similar here, but I dig that they found a different way to explore it :)

    This part felt like the RE developers decided to box all of their escape room + Silent Hill inspiration _(which was very prevalent in 7)_ into one specific segment of the game and go all out with it.

    I like how John is almost always able to hide his fear with sarcasm, or making fun of the game. Or he's just not scared. At least with most games. But this whole episode he seemed actually unnerved and that's how you know this section of the game was special

    "What did the architect think of this place" in PA there is a house built on top of a waterfall. Frank Lloyd Wright built it. It's super nice I got to tour it once. You could go down a staircase in the living room floor and step into the waterfall.

    Man, I was really hoping we would get a lot more from Donna and Angie. I love The corpse bride look Angie gives, they also did the "doll as enemy" thing right. Actually interacting with the doll and not just it sitting there as spooky shit happens around it. Angie really got my attention right away and I was so excited for her to be a bigger part. For what she is in, fantastic, A+, love the character. Now gimmie more!

    What screams psychological horror to you disproves itself if you pay more attention. Ethan and Mia were moved via Chris to Romania not far from the village(site C). The book is about the village bought in the village made to be a fairytale of the disgusting reality. The toys are most likely quite popular(so no explanation for that) and the pot of food is a village recipe as mentioned by Mia with the local Dimitrescu wine

    Walking down the hallway of the house with dolls before there were dolls everywhere definitely reminded me of Hideo Kojima's last P.T. Silent Hill thing.
    Also, the village gives me a lot of Yahar'gul village vibes.

    I just beat this game in it truly is something special... Probably my favorite resident evil ever.
    All the back tracking and extra stuff to do other than the main story makes the playthrough so much fun lol. Probably some of the best backtracking I've ever seen in a game.
    All the areas and even optional side-bosses, and the fact that it was very satisfying turning every room on the map from red to blue lol sold it to me. Also all the nods and easter eggs paying homage to resident evil 4.
    P.S. *SPOILER* you can kill the big dog but it either takes a shit-ton of bullets or you use the magnum on him.

    12:36 that reused asset of a treasure chest, put in an inaccessible room as background dressing ruined my life for about an hour.. I tried so hard to get it. I hadn't picked up the key item because I was scared it would make me leave. So the room was red and I thought it was because of what looks like OBVIOUS TREASURE..
    an hour..
    just pressing action..
    on every pixel in the house..
