    This 4-minute video summarizes all that Indycar offers, unlike F1: transparency, simplicity, respect for enthusiasts, a competitive championship where everyone has a chance.

      And sadly, all of that do not matter to the neophyte market, that only wants a more glamorous and expensive experience and is willing to pay for it. It is value, not price

    I was told by a team revving the engine was to check throttle response, smooth RPM changes and to check plenum pressure during those changes. Also spinning the motor before starting it was also to build fuel pressure. Similar to prestart electric fuel pumps on airplanes to "prime" the engine.

    One of the things about that gear change is how loud it "clunks" between each gear change. First time I heard it caught me off guard a bit. It is a true 'clunk', next gear, 'clunk' next gear.. and man o man, is it cool!

      Just so you know, the exhaust pipes don't stick up like that. Those are removable mufflers they install in the garage area, otherwise the cars would be ear-piercingly loud.

    another good reason to rev the motor when warming up is to check the battery voltage and make sure the alternator is performing correctly

    Blipping the engine is primarily to avoid any damaging harmonics at a constant throttle opening that might be present. That is certainly the case in some engines but I can’t speak specifically to these motors.

    Does that exhaust have disc type mufflers

    • @MX304
      @MX304 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They have a set of Super Trap mufflers that are slipped over the exhaust while they warm up. It cuts both the sound level, and acts as a spark arrestor to reduce the risk of fire in the paddock. They are obviously removed before going on track. If you ever have a chance to stand close to one in the paddock while it is being warmed up, the sound those mufflers make is actually quite good. Gives it a bit more of a deep rumble.

  • @bennyfactor
    @bennyfactor ปีที่แล้ว

    Were those temporary mufflers on the exhaust to keep it quieter in the garage area, or some kind of sensor?

    • @shagdesign

    Typical comments made between F1 and Indycar fans:
    "Indycar is years behind F1."
    "Indycar is inferior to F1."
    In what world is any of this even true? The two motorsports are nothing alike. They only _look_ similar, but that's about it.
    "Fomula 1 is garbage now, not like how it was back then."
    Not entirely true. Yes, it's true that it's not as good as what it was in it's golden years, but it doesn't mean that it's complete garbage. The radical new redesign of the cars and new rules allow for closer racing and for teams that once had no chance of getting on the podium, to now have a chance. Additionally, some high level drivers are switching to other teams, like Lewis Hamilton.
    "Formula 1 is far more popular than Indycar."
    This is true. Indycar doesn't have as much of a global presence as Formula 1 due to its tracks and broadcasting being mostly centered in the United States. Formula 1 has tracks and racing all over the world and even has a pretty significant presence in the United States, especially with the new Las Vegas track.
