Great video Peter, I need some advice/tips to void ruining my next trip. I fished the Western sound Nov/15th (breezy day, N/W winds) in my usual "hot spot" - a very rocky/huge boulder shoreline in about 9 to 15 feet of water (starting at high tide). I caught 1 baby blackfish. On Nov/3rd, same spot, all big blackfish. Are the fish all moving deeper? what depth and type of structure would you recommend so I can bring home some dinner next time around (before end of November). Many thanks - Gio, Western Long Island Sound.
Gio, I had very similar experience today fishing western sound Ny side. I even pushed into the 30’ range with spread out boulders and very few fish. The 2 wrecks I fished today in 45-60’ had much better action. I really think it’s very much area specific but if there isn’t heavy structure of tightly packed boulders then it’s hard to find them it seems in the shallower stuff. I would def go to wrecks or tightly packed boulders now, the forage type areas are done. Just my limited experience though still trying to figure them out like you!
@@PeterRanieriII Thanks Peter appreciate the tips you are always very good at answering your subscribers' questions. Will try to get out one or two more times before end of November.
Thanks Gio - I really enjoy engaging with everyone, always fun to talk about something we are passionate about and I've learned quite a bit just getting feedback from everyone
@@PeterRanieriII the party boats throw them away. It’s so wasteful. I see 4/5/6 lb togs with so much meat in the collars being tossed. Also if you are open to it, go to supermarket and get a coconut / Thai curry box and put the tog head in and make curry and put it on rice. It is fantastic.
Hi Peter my wife and I learned quite a bit from your video and really enjoyed it. Specially the cooking part you made me real hungry 👍does your trolling motor do good spot lock from rear. I saw your install but lost track since of how it has been performing. Keep up the great work.thanks Bob
@@Gramps55 thank you for telling me this Bob! Yes the spot lock feature works just fine when mounted in stern. I just don’t do it when it’s really windy bc I notice I’ll get a little more waves over the back on choppy days so if mostly the current is governing my direction I like it in the stern otherwise the bow is better for wind governing days.
@ thanks Peter ,also for the underwater video it really clarifies why when I raise my rod jig fishing you start to get bit again. I always assumed the jig fell in a crevice or weeds, never thought about the silt thing until your video. WELL DONE 👍
Thanks, thats exactly what helps me as well, once you start seeing how they attack the bait you get a better visualization when you feel the bites on the rod
Thanks your right it’s because my rod is an older model they don’t have anymore but that newer mojo inshore model has to be very similar I will update the link with that caveat
HOLY SMACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bro you did the damn thing in the Kitchen. I fish out of Narraganset Rhode Island. Had 2 keeper Tautog and 2 keeper SeaBass - Cooked them whole. Also I've read you should bleed them. I did, and the meat definitely tastes even better. What's your opinion on bleeding the fish?
haha thanks, I can get by when it comes to seafood but I'm by no means any sort of cook lol - heck yea cooking them whole is def a great way to do these fish, nice keepers! I usually will cook seabass whole on the day I get them and then filet and freeze in vaccuum seal the rest. And yes I always bleed any fish I plan to eat. It makes a difference, even with the less bloody fish, you're going to get a better meat, I think it stores longer without the blood too, plus it seems a bit more humane to kill the fish quicker
@@PeterRanieriII Appreciate ya my fellow angler! I'm going to double down. Your skills with the Sea Bass and Tautog are on point! We are all looking forward to next season!
Nice job! I killed the bass last week. I made my first fishing video for TH-cam 17 fish 3 keepers. Sunday is supposed to be super nice so I’m hoping to get back out there!
@@Waterboy516 I’m gunna go watch it right now man nice 👍 🤙 I think you’ll be glad you made the videos years from now. It’s great to have a log plus see your friends/family in them later on. Sunday might be doable!
ohhh wow thanks man for telling me! I have always been interested in those rods, ahh so tempting, could always use an extra rod...🤣 what power did you get?
I bought two of the medium heavy’s. My brother in law always uses it to fish same rod. It’s a do all rod. It’s sensitive so you can black fish/ fluke and has enough back bone to pull in over slot bass. When I seen him pull up multiple over slot bass 36in and up on that little rod I was very impressed. I figured I’m going to hopefully get my boat running again next season. my spare rods I let people use are very old and stiff …. I might as well give friends/ family a better experience.
I like that philosphy, have heard good things about them too - just cant put too much pressure on them, but as a back rod for 50$ it looks like a great deal, gunna get one med-heavy. thanks for the head up man!
Very high quality content Peter! From front to back, this video is an ACE! Way to go, you really nailed it! Another great morning of fishing for you! ^5 Stay great!
Hey Peter, lifelong fisherman out of Huntington…I enjoy your videos and find them entertaining and informative…thanks for the great posts… what video setup do you use?
Hey Robert that’s awesome to hear you are very close to me and have seen the changes over time in our area. Happy to hear you enjoy the videos! I’m using a GoPro hero 9 attached to a fishing line mount. I’m since modified it slightly but here’s a link to the basic setup: th-cam.com/video/ewCQ1A0ABwU/w-d-xo.html
I do the same thing when processing my fish but I also salt the fish. It really helps bring the water out and it gives the fish a way better crust when you pan sear it.
Thanks they are just a cheap amazon 1.5mm neoprene and already started ripping but I’m wearing nitrile gloves underneath them and it worked really well. a.co/d/2KABnds
Hi Peter, Western Sound person here out of Norwalk. Why do you cut off the legs of the crabs? I'd think with them on the presentation would be more natural.
Hey keith, I just prefer legs off in the western sound as I feel the smaller fish can grab them and not be close to the hook, its also provides a nice hole to thread the hook when you cut them off. In the eastern sound where they could be bigger more aggressive fish, keeping legs on is probably fine
@@Kayak_fishing_maniac thank you brutha 💪 that was a good one for this area for sure! So the gloves are just a cheap 1.5mm neoprene glove off Amazon and they already ripped a little from the hook point or crabs pinching me lol but the trick is I’m wearing a pair of nitrile gloves underneath and that really helped keep them dry. I’m def gunna do this method in the future. Here’s the link for the gloves but just know they are not the strongest material: a.co/d/2KABnds
Yoooo brotha me too! this wind is making it tough for sure, seems like every saturday this fall was not fishable...miss your vids man I heard you been busy this year
That's why I said on your other video, get them up quick as you can or else they swim right back into the wreck. Don't play with the drag once you set it, maybe tighten it, not loosen. You don't play with the togs.
The wind machine has kept the boat at the dock the last few days, so nothing to report. I did however go out freshwater as they did their late fall stocking for Veterans Day. Took home a couple of nice brook trout for dinner.
Peter, another great video!
Always a good idea to string them up before removing the hook, I used to lose some big fish by not taking that approach, nice fish by the way.
haha yes! learned this the hard way in the past as well. Thanks!
Good job Peter
Thanks Mario! getting colder and harder to get the fish now it seems - was a great season though
