  • Where do I even begin on this one. As you may see from the length of this video, it was an action packed day of kayak fishing with Dan out east on the island. We worked a good amount of different areas but the best fluking really came around the peak of the tides. Early on in the morning, Dan connected with an absolute beast of fish. It really was awesome to be there and watch him land that fish. I didn't use gulp at all, strip baits seemed to be working just fine if not better.

    Hahahahaha! Fun seeing the same fishing trip from two different cameras. I saw Dan's first - I think 'cause he published first. That 10 lbs 2 oz fluke was a monster! I fish from a 17 foot Sea Hunt and THAT feels cramped (I'm 71, so no kid) so watching you guys fish from a kayak (in Montauk no less!) is a wonder and a spectacle! Stay safe out there you guys!

    Latest reports from the RI grounds: fluke is almost over, but tons and tons of sea bass, both near the beaches and by Block Island. Togs have even begun to show up. Early reports from the cod grounds are promising for when the head boat begins those trips in two weeks.

    • @PeterRanieriII
      @PeterRanieriII  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@cn65666 still trying to figure out what I like best but so far if the wind is going to to be pushing me more than the current I’ll probably prefer the bow. If it’s more current and less wind I like the stern. I also just like the stern better in most drifting scenarios for fighting fish since it’s not in the way. For anchoring that may change not sure yet

    Hey do you have any tips for kayak fishing in the ocean? This year I have been fishing in the bays/ channels but I want to try in the ocean either jones beach or Long Beach. When I fish in the ocean by boat I usually just follow birds or go to the reefs so I’m not exactly sure how to fish close to land similar to surf fishing. Any suggestions on what to look for? I have a fish finder but I don’t think there is any structure close to the beaches

    • @PeterRanieriII
      @PeterRanieriII  16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Hey man, I’ve only been out in the ocean a handful of times on the kayak, fire island and moriches…it’s tough like you mention there’s not much hard structure close to the beach so yeah my strategy was to try and find bait and just see if anything was chasing that bait. Never had much success I think I maybe caught a small bluefish and sea robins lol. But I think you gotta go into that knowing it’s strike out or home run bc you totally can find some awesome pelagics but it’s rare. The bays/channels just have a better risk reward it seems

      So I decided to drop in at oak beach this morning. I fished the Robert Moses bridge. The winds were 11-12 mph, 2ft waves and there was 4 charter boats close. I fished for about 2 hours. I tried to power through it but the conditions were very bad. I had a bunch of bites but wasn’t really able to set the hook due to having one hand on the motor to try and slow down the drift. I was just getting to beat up and actually started to get a bit nauseous so I am called it quits. I’m definitely going to try and go back there but the conditions have to be perfect and maybe go when it’s not a weekend so there isn’t so many party boats.

    Hey Peter
    allow me to apologize for not " hello" to you about four months ago
    but my life has been very difficult
    in fact i did not even view your vids until recently
    BUT I told myself I need to say hey
    so hey how ya been
    I loved this vid as usual
    btw Montauk is a first for you on vid right?
    so I am curious is this the South or North side
    I mean ya can't really launch in the South side waves
    can you?
    so I fell typical old man tripped and fell three months ago
    and my shoulder is just getting better
    I hope to be healthy in a couple weeks
    while i was injured I thought about a plan which I had never done before
    namely I put 80 pound test on a Heavy 12 foot rod with plans to catch and cook
    a nice big Sting Ray
    maybe even a Shark
    btw I need to check
    the regs on which Sharks are and which are NOT legal
    do you happen to know?
    I saw you and the wifey enjoying that Fluke meal
    nice
    with the kids in the background
    what can i say
    You DA Man

      @@stevetautog880 no Steve you da man! I was missing your long comments man, that’s rough about the shoulder injury hope it heals quick so you can get back out there. This is my second time in montauk, I went once before 2 years ago with Dan and Jim, there is a video of it on the channel somewhere…it’s a bit dangerous to launch from the south side surf you need nearly perfect conditions. This was not on the south side. Yeah I mean shark and Ray fishing is a lot of fun. I used to do it often at night in Florida. I think your allowed to target sharks like spinner sharks, but there’s a lot you can’t like sand tiger, dusky, browns. I would double check tho I’m not too caught up on that stuff. I appreciate the love man, take care 🙏
