  • This shoulder season mountain climbing Adventure takes us all over the Mount Evans Wilderness previewing several great potential smaller trips in the area as well. First we bike up Mt. Evans road, the highest paved road in North America, finding Mountain Goats aplenty and ever improving vistas, depositing us at the picturesque and partially frozen Summit lake. From the lake, we stash the bike and proceed to hike up Mt. Spaldings's Class 2 East Ridge enjoying amazing views of Summit Lake and hicago Lakes. After summiting Mt. Spalding, 13,000+ft we traverse a high plateau westward to arrive at The Sawtooth, a Classic & Intimidating Class 3 Ridge connecting Mt. Evans with Mt. Bierstadt. A snowy and somewhat technical traverse lands us on the top of 14er Mt. Bierstadt while enjoying great views of Abyss Lake. The Adventure continues back across the Sawtooth and finally eastward to the Summit of the iconic 14er Mount Evans. After soaking up the summit and exploring the remains of the summit house ruins, we head back down Mt. Evan's east face and ultimately back to Summit lake and getting the bike for a frosty ride back to HWY 103, completing one very high milage day.
    A complete Colorado adventure! Mountain climbing, ridge scrambling, traverses, incredible scenery inc. dji drone footage, all at high altitudes! Thanks for watching

    Appreciate your amazing abilities putting these together! Mt Evans is so close, yet like being transported to a different world...like all the 14ers. Yes, your Subs should be way up, I totally agree with your response in last video.

      I do wish I could have used the drone more on this one , the Sawtooth would have been EPIC but also in a Wilderness area. I wanted to do more video of the climbing there too but it was pretty trecherous in snow and ice. I did not want to re-climb that stuff and I was beat too, lol!

      That was a long day but, Friday was a king daddy! The weather has been so dry and warm I decided to climb a technical route up Longs Peak. I’m still sore but, it was totally worth it! I was think of you, when we talked about it. That hike in does suck, if you decide to go for it I’d plan it as a camping trip! Thanks for checking out my scene brother, you really helped me get going on the right foot here with TH-cam making videos, I really appreciate that, and won’t forget it. Let me know if you need anything.

      Thanks Jun, I was SO HAPPY for that trail. I was beat and frozen from flying the drone in the wind off the summit. . . I thought I'd just stay near the road going down for safety in my exhausted condition but, decided to peak over there just in case there was a more direct way. What a fast and pleasant way down! That loop you did sound great, that's what I should have done but, I just could not resist the Sawtooth. Wow, the climb up Bierstadt was the real killer, snow covered talus or the icy ridge was tough and intense climbing. Happy holidays!

      Very special place but, crazy crowded as well. So glad you could join me for this unique look, thanks for coming. I looked at your channel, wow, looks like you could go anywhere! One of the coolest and scariest climbs I've done was Little Bear Peak and then a stunning ridge travers to Blanca Peak, a famous route. The road up there is "one of the roughest" in the country, so they say though I am inclined to believe it. . . . Could be a cool venue for you? Personally, I'd kill for a ride up there if you ever wanted to do a collaboration. I'm going next summer to more summits in the area and repeat the traverse. . . I have an older video of it, 2020 if you're interested, warning, it is a bit long and early in my video making career but the place is amazing, it shows the bike ride I did up the road too as well as some awesome drone footage. . . Cheers Kathy

    Bierstadt, Evans, Spalding, Sawtooth traverse over and back (wow) - you make this look easy! Any single part of it would be a challenge for this flatlander. Your drone footage and videos are amazing, stunning works. Kudos! Question: Just how sketchy is that loose area that you call the entrance to the Sawtooth? It looks like a deathtrap on the videos I've watched.

    • @KarlDeckerPresents
      @KarlDeckerPresents  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s all relative, please keep that in mind, but I did not feel hardly any threat, not class 3 there. Further along the Sawtooth ridge there is a bit of class 3, up Bierstedt even more, in the ice for me it was down right gnarly and I shot little video due to that. . . Now that I have toured lots of the San Juans recently. . . They redefine loose death trap! I was clawing for my life yesterday on Potosi after cliffing out on that descent. In the summer conditions, the sawtooth traverse is an excellent introduction to class three

    Great solo adventure. Good drone shots. My original Mavic air is still hangin tough, but that 2s seems pretty sweet. What model eBike is that? Looks like a mid drive.

    • @KarlDeckerPresents
      @KarlDeckerPresents  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was great and tough. . . even with the E-bike, a store demo bike '18 turbo Levo bottom of the line but, it has held together aside from a couple warranted electric issues and I have ridden it HARD and also in lots in snow, that was the original reason I got it but. . . just OK better than a fat bike but 3+ soft inches, nothing works too well. I do LOVE the Air 2s, the camera is really good and the 5K resolution helps immensely to zoom in when you can not fly deeper due to wilderness area boundaries. . . I would have gotten the Sawtooth way better if it was not right in the middle of the Mt. Evans wilderness area. Even legal I'm not sure I'd fly a drone at the summit in the summer since it is literally crawling with people. . .
