This was wonderful, friend. I'm glad that you did the hike, just because you wanted to. Fantastic reason! My 11-year-old great niece just did this hike a few weeks ago, and it was her fifth summitted 14-er. Her younger sister kept getting blown over by the wind and was very discouraged, so she couldn't finish. You definitely were blessed with a very calm day, as I've heard from many people that this hike can be very prone to strong winds. Thanks, as always, for all that you do!

Did it yesterday. Not too terribly crowded for an unseasonably beautiful October Sunday.

@@TheVirtualSherpa Knocked it out this afternoon after giving that snow a few days to melt off. Still an inch or so of it in the upper reaches along with some ice, but going in the afternoon helped. Appreciate everything you do, brother.

@@hainesftw90 yea, I did it Friday (the day after it snowed. 1st 14er.
Microspikes would have been helpful but it wasn't too bad with just my hiking boots (couple of butt sliding tho haha).

Just did this yesterday. Snow had just rolled in though the day before.
My 1st 14er, took 2x as long as I planned (mostly due to fresh snow on the ground) only one up there when I made it to the summit (there were like 5 total hikers I say on way up)

Love your new friend! She’s a 14er Dog!!! Did Bierstadt two weeks ago. Busy - but a great hike! Decided against doing the Saw Tooth to Evans - glad we did. Listen to your body if you’re not feeling it! Took your advice and stayed conservative. We’ll come back for Saw Tooth next summer.

If your fine with extra milage, you can also hike it from abyss trail on the southern end of guanella pass. From there you can take the easy or south ridge to the summit. I got 15 miles doing the east ridge up and south ridge down. Fun loop

Great vid. When I did this years ago, I was told we needed to be off summit by early afternoon (2:00? 3:00?) before storms rolled in. Never considered you could just hike later in the day.

Storms are much more common in the summer. During the off season they're less likely but you should still keep an eye on the weather.

100% to the comment above here - always need to be careful on the weather, regardless of the time of year, but especially in the summer. Always recommend checking multiple weather sources as well.

I avoided hiking a 14er for so long because I'm not an early morning person. I did this hike last Friday for my first 14er and got a way later start than I wanted, around 1:30 pm. Parking lots were packed full and I only saw maybe 10 people on the trail itself. Got some weird looks from people descending, definitely felt the noobie vibe but I was only 1 of 2 people on the summit. Wish I saw this video sooner, you always start at like 4:30am with how ever many hours of driving you have haha

All about the conditions and being prepared for the darkness but if you are good to go in those areas, let them all stare!
