@@mamandapanda185It means a kind of fast: 18 hours without food and 6 hour when one can eat. It is recommended to eat maximum three meals without any snacks in between.

Very wise. I watch your episodes and I learned a lot. Lost 22 pounds since March 4th, 2023. Good fats, good proteins and quality carbs under 50 g (even though sometimes I go to 75 g because it's hard to gage... I use Fitness Pal as my go to check of macros). IF with lots of variety. Just came off a 36 hour fast and I feel energized and ready to go.
BTW for Quebec (Canada) followers : Dr. Martin Juneau, a cardiologist based in Montreal, says that IF worked for some of his patients. That is what I heard him say on TVA 6-7 months ago. He seemed skeptical 4-5 years ago (saw another CBC/Radio-canada clip of 2018 or 2019). So there is a change of mind in the medical field.

I drink a black coffee (switching to green tea soon) and drink water or some times do a dry fast from the first morning till the second... works very well and relatively easy. Tho you truly are awesome….I’m beginning to rethink. My grandmother died at 97 (and imo only bc she fell and got depressed). BUT she did everything “wrong”--smoked unfiltered cigarettes for decades, ate almost all processed crap for food-but she was happy. And never exercised! Key. She didn’t sit and focus on carbs, macros, IF, starving etc. but she focused on others, not herself. I’m seeing people that work out, who focus almost exclusively on SELF die younger-have seen it over and over. Something is amiss here! I think the ancient paths are truly relevant here. Let’s look to the happy, old people and ask them. Ya think they do intermittent fasting and count carbs? Imo it’s more about helping others. Just my humble opinion after my 61 yrs of seeing all the diets and exercise programs. It doesn’t lead to long, happy life.

I also never understood why avocado "belongs" on toast (I'm British and thought it was just some British fad) .... I eat it straight out of the skin with a spoon. Each to their own though. Don't eat lunch either actually.

My BGL is a bit higher in the morning - after 3 1/2 years lowcarb/keto eating. Was in the 80s, now low 100s. My am insulin has dropped low - which is good, but.....I eat breakfast to jolt my body into producing insulin to burn off the am "Dawn Effect" glucose spike. I also eat a midday meal and stop eating around 3pm for the day. This works really well to control BGLs .

Is it ok to have avocado toast for breakfast during hormone feasting days? I follow your work for most of my lifestyle and the other bit comes from the glucose goddess’ glucose hacks. She says sourdough or dark rye bread is fine for glucose levels - can you please address this for those following the hormone feasting approach?
The other confusion is having a high protein breakfast but when doing hormone feasting as laid out in fast like a girl, the protein limit is 50g. How would the rest of the meals play out? There isn’t much left so we end up with mainly carby meals.

I’m experimenting (albeit inconsistently) with eating different foods at different times. At the moment hubby and I are on a low-carb diet (essentially just no grains, no added sugar) with a cheat meal or so on the weekends to keep up morale lol. I could probably go much longer without a cheat meal if it weren’t for hanging out with family / friends and not wanting to socially isolate ourselves that way. But also I enjoy the simple indulgences too much to cut out bad stuff forever. Anyways, we’ve usually been eating eggs for breakfast, sometimes adding in some other meat like ground bison or chicken for variety. Seems to do really well with our digestion & satiety, but sometimes I just want something else. I recently did a few days of overnight chia pudding (sugar-free besides some fresh berries) and noticed I felt verrry bloated after eating that - may have been due to not drinking enough water, not sure. But I know I always feel normal / good eating eggs & meat. Sometimes I’ll add avocado or organic guac just to help with keeping me full and satisfied. We both really like avocado & guac. Sometimes I also randomly don’t eat breakfast, and eat lunch around 1 or 2, depending on my energy levels. Or I’ll eat breakfast and skip lunch and eat dinner… I’ve heard there are studies on intermittent fasting positively impacting many different gene markers or whatever, and which ones are affected depends upon what time of day you fast. So my theory is that it’s good to kinda keep it a little random sometimes, not always necessarily fast at the same time every day or even always fast every day. I know a lot of people have had successful weight loss & lifestyle change with being super consistent, but I enjoy variety and I feel like it keeps my body on its toes in a good way. Curious what others think of that.

@drmindypelz I’m in the plus 40 camp…do I still break with ~30g of protein for weight loss or do I do 4-2-1 and only do

    • @DrMindyPelz
      @DrMindyPelz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

depends on your goals if you are fasting for autophagy and want to extend its impact, you would do less than 20 grams in a day. If you are looking to build muscle, you would do the 30 grams. you get to decide for your body which works best 💪

It sounds great to break the fast with protein if we want to lose weight, but how can I fit in a ketobiotic diet during a period fast if you say I should eat no more than 75g of protein? And also on this day I lift weights at the gym?
One more thing: I really like nuts - peanuts, pumpkin seeds (pepitas), almonds, sunflower seeds, cashew. Do they count as both fats and protein at the same time, or just as a fats?
How many grams per day is the most I should observe as consumption?

Show me all the food you want, even jelly donuts, I have zero appetite for breakfast. Strictly an OMAD woman here. Eat a keto refeed, wait a few, eat a small sweet, wait at least 10 minutes, drink electrolyte water. Once in a while a cheat meal but not often at all. Thx Dr M.

Can you break a fast with home made hommus ? ( chickpea, tahini, lemon).
That is, is this a sufficient protein for breaking a fast?
    I’m currently doing 20:4.
    Thanks.

Your age does not need to determine your food choices. Focus on whole nutrient dense foods, with plenty of healthy fats and clean proteins. Hi H. Kay Brown here is a beginners video and a link to my free beginners course

You see, this is what is SO irritating about health professionals on You Tube - every single one tells you something different! No wonder people think "stuff it, I'll eat what I ruddy well want" - it's REALLY annoying. I live in the UK and can't count the number of health professionals who advocate that avocado on toast (or rye bread) - usually with tomato on top - is one of the healthiest things for breakfast EVER, yet here we go again .... now it's not. I'm really fed up with all the constant contradictions in information much as I admire this lovely woman.
