This album was recorded under crazy conditions. They spent over a year on the road and were thrown back into the studio with zero chance to rest. The guys were at each other’s throats, there was a lot of booze and drugs, and a whole lot of anger. They were sick of each other, but had to somehow coexist and create together. The result is some of the most emotional, energetic shit your ears will ever experience. Legendary band and album.
Don't think it's underrated, some songs or bands just give the feeling that it's underrated, people listen without mentioning them often, i think that's clear
The great thing with metal & extreme music is that once you understand that it isn't just a bunch of 'angry' noise you then start to find how cathartic it can be. It can be a great release of tensions and stress and leave you feeling like you channeled any negative energy into the music and come out refreshed. It is for this reason that the majority of metalheads that you'll meet will be really great folk. It is so rare that you hear of any trouble at metal gigs or festivals. Glad to see you enjoy the Knot, whilst this is the heaviest album and probably the fan favourite, Subliminal versus (the third album) is a beautiful creation.
@@Boldiv67 I LOVE it when someone says like "oh you like listening to devil music" or whatever bullshit that they'll spew out cause I'll just stand there and smile ear to ear while staring into their soul
I'm so shocked nobody has explained IOWA (the song) to you. Corey literally drove himself into an emotional fit during the recording of the song. He stripped down naked in the booth, chugged liquor, broke a candle stick and proceeded to cut his chest open and bleed and throw up everywhere. This song was Corey going into the deepest darkest sickest parts of his mind and who he is. The song (straight from his mouth) is about him being locked alone in a room with a dead body and doing fucked up things to it. By the end he was screaming at everyone to stop staring at him which you can hear in the background if the song. This was Corey releasing all of the pent up rage and hate in life he has bottled up. Amazing reaction to the album man, can't wait for you to get to Vol. 3
Way overrated song imo for what it is supposed to be. Yes the tales about it and how it was recorded are crazy but imo there are far better songs when you're looking for an aggressive psychotic "outlet" type song by Slipknot. Scissors or Skin Ticket come to mind for me for example. I'm almost glad he cut that sh*t off at the end 🤣

No way bro I saw the other one last night and you already hittin Iowa damnnn. I think Vol 3 will be ur favorite if you listen to that one tho. I recommend their third album. You gettin a sub from me btw
(515) was Sid SCREAMING his heart out in a separate room due to his grandpa passing away. They heard him from another room and they cried with him from how intense it was in there. They all went through A LOT (abuse, addiction, trauma and depression) when this album was recored. They used that intensity in here. There will NEVER be another Iowa for that reason. They gotta go back to the trauma to get to this point again since a lot of fans want another Iowa.
Yep I connected to that song a lot during the lowest part of my life. I hate songs that are so repetitive but skin ticket really connected to my soul and spirit during that time. To describe my emotions, it was when I am hallucinating inside my room seeing things hearing someone say that the devil will talk to me or something. There's a lot going on during that time that I just can't understand. Can't control my emotions.Sorry for my bad English
515 is sid wilson screaming and crying (turntables/dj) after finding out his grandfather past away and sid thought it would add a good fit for the very first song in the album.
What will always make the first couple of albums undeniably legendary, is the fact that he literally ripped his throat apart recording and performing those songs. That commitment to produce a sound that will never be replicated is something special. The raw absolute rage and brutality of it will never be heard again. Corey (the singer) didn't do his screams in a conventional way, all other singers that use this style use a technique that doesn't hurt or damage their vocal chords. Corey is just fucking screaming as loud as he can.
You will have to react to every album dude. One you get to the latest one it has the sounds of every album era in that album it’s insane. Can’t wait for you to hear vol.3. It is where they introduce their full sound range every style of slipknot. Heavy, rappy, pretty, angry, happy, jazzy, experimental, blackened, everything. Iowa is their angry shit. They were all on drugs on this album. 9 members in the band btw
I saw their singer Corey Taylor with another band at smaller venue earlier this year. It was the best show I saw all year, and he spat on me, I was honored.
I used to listen to this album on my portable CD player on the way to high school everyday. Definitely got me going. You gotta see them do People=Shit, Disasterpiece and Heretic Anthem live in London 2002. Its Slipknot in their prime and its crazy. Corey their singer also recorded this album while naked and cutting himself in the studio.
The reason its different and hitting is probably cuz its the most energetic and passionate music you've ever heard. I guarantee you probably cant find previous music you listened to regularly that match this level of energy. It's very cool when you realize the significance behind a lot of these songs. Of course, they can all be attributed to combatting their addictions and aggression towards each other but for example: Disasterpiece "I wanna slit your throat and fuck the wound" (as the lead singer explained in an interview somewhere) was directed to his bullies as a child Heretic Anthem "If you're 555 then I'm 666" they are not satanic in the slightest, but they're indicating that if people tell them to be one thing they will be the complete opposite. The vocals in the intro are from Sid (the dj). During recording his grandfather who he was really close to was ill and there was so much pressure to get the album done that Sid couldnt leave. His grandfather ended up passing away around the same time Sid had finished all his parts. So Sid made the intro just as an emotional release.
Liked before I watched. Iowa is the hardest. Most maggots look to this as prime knot. But no shame if it ain’t your favorite. Almost all their albums are bangers except the last one they released
Fun story about the intro song (515) This is supposedly actual audio recorded in the studio of their DJ (Sid Wilson) having a mental breakdown after just losing his grandfather, which whom he was insanely close with. Story says he got the call, and instantly started breaking down and screaming "death" repeatedly and they recorded it and turned it into an album intro. This whole album is nothing but raw emotion and still holds up as one of the best metal records ever recorded.

The Shape is definitely the most interesting song from a hip hop listener perspective it, also it translates well with Korns sounds Slipknot is just more intense and fast.
Disasterpiece is about the lead singer (Corey Taylor) wanting to kill his childhood bully. And the background for the opening track (515) is the DJ (Sid Wilson) screaming in pain after the sudden death of his grandpa.
1:05:33 crazy thing is that the album released just a couple weeks before the incident so the album got no traction at first since everyone was too busy to be listening to music

Skin Ticket is the best experience on the album, it is the most atmospheric, sick, psychodelic, horror-like, and you are right it is the weakest song.. it is not meant to be a song, it is an emotional (even psychotic) experience.

If you wanna watch some live stuff i suggest live in london astoria 2004, live in london in 2002, and download in 2009
Heaviest album you’ve done so far hahahah. Welcome to heavy music. From here you’ll go down the spiral hahahah
For sure.Heard psychosocial, then listened to Iowa and here I am,half a year later, listening to slam and goregrind to relax :)
You definitetly need to see some of their live performances with video, like spit it out 2009 Download
black sabbath - War Pigs ! U gotta do it next ! Or If u wanna do the album by them which the song war pigs is on its called “paranoid”. They were the pioneers of the metal genre in the 70s so its a must bc before any heavy band they were the first EVER
I want to know who bastardized the lyrics for Skin Ticket?
It's "Keeping myself alive through your apathy" not empathy
Yes even though I only have 3 liked songs from iowa I like most of the songs save them for a special occasion.😂 also so amazing u liked the shape. It's underrated
Sitting here watching this man absolutely flabbergasted is so fucking funny 😂 we all had the same reaction to this joint when it released 😂😂
Joey Jordison is my childhood hero, this album made my life for years, nice reaction
I feel like you will like We are not your kind more, its got some bangers and some singing and is one of my personal favourites
I would LOVE to see you react to their Live at Download 2009 concert. Then you see how really insane they are.
Do you mean the Download festival from 2009? The festival is actually held in the East Midlands of the UK, nowhere near London, just for some geographic context :)
@@Stephs_VibeRater Yes , I have no idea why I wrote London tbh, I meant to say "Live at Download" xD Thanks for correcting, I will edit the original message!
No worries dude! @@Koray.K
Great to see you as always my man, I love this because I see myself discovering this when I was a kid l, brings me sooo many memories and feelings…
I would love to see you react to one of the greatest albums ever if you haven’t already: Nirvana - Nevermind.
Merry Christmas y’all
Dude your EQ on your spotify is AMAZING. i don’t know what it is, but my phone has never sounded better. this album sounds completely different. What are your settings?!? i need them
lets fucking go, fav slipknot album
rip joey jordison, was such a good drummer.
I hate how the lyrics on Spotify are so blatantly inaccurate so often
Even if they were right they'd go over dudes head tbh lol like he isn't even catching the vibes right 😂 songs be slow n creepy as shit and he's acting like they're chill like huh? 💀
He’s a chill dude, man idk
@@Xeroforteold ahh comment lol but i think thats just how he is, and you can view any song in any way sometimes so i dont mind it
@@Xerofortegod forbid someone enjoy music
Hope you see this I'm a little late but Slipknot does have an official Live album that is on Spotify called 9.0 Live
If you liked the slower vibe on the last track i feel like you would definitely like some doom metal
I'd recommend Dopethrone by Electric Wizard
For some reason I read that as “slam metal” and thought you were crazy 😭😭😭
Ngl u gotta see the 2002 live video from the Iowa tour it was one of the best shows ever and had even more energy and aggression than the studio version maybe even sounded better.
i thought the same thing when i listened to the bridge in left behind lol i was like "this sounds like deftones"
Now The vol 3 álbum it's calmer and more melodic than the first and second album.
If you liked this u have to do Talla - the generation of danger. A must!!
Reno back with Slipknot🔥🔥🔥
I saw your Slipknot self title reaction you are getting a new sub 🤘🤘. Volume 3 is probably one of my favorite slipknot albums. I think you would like it 🙏
9:45 "i know that shit hit live" believe me it fucking does, you should definitely react to their 2001 ozzfest performance where people = shit is their opening song. its crazy.
Everytime you have this indecisive look on your face whether you should like it or not and just say "that shit hard as fuck tho 🤔" the more i realize you're like me when i first started listening to hard music like this 😂. I recommend LD50 album by Mudvayne or Adrenaline by Deftones for nu-metal. Want more screaming??Try gojira, lamb of god, and Killswitch Engage. I don't mind the replays that much and good luck on hitting 8k ❤️
You absolutely need to watch their performance in London 2002. Do you want to talk about going wild at the show? This is the shit that will have you jumping out of your seat.
great video dude, make sure you check out the deluxe version of albums as they have extra songs
Theres an acoustic version of gently that is absolutely bad ass
Architects all our gods have abandoned us has to be a listen it’s amazing
pin
Disasterpiece has wierd and killing lyrics because its about Corey's (singer) desire to kill a bully when he was a kid.
That "part" that you like in every song is called the "breakdown"
Least passive aggressive slipknot fan:
@@phil_eggbat On god, dude lol. This guy is just getting into metal so he needs people who ain't passive aggressive.
Subreddit energy
Bro, Vol. 3 The Subliminal Verses! You have to do it. You will not be disappointed
Skin Ticket is the best experience on the album, it is the most atmospheric, sick, psychodelic, horror-like, and you are right it is the weakest song.. it is not meant to be a song, it is an emotional (even psychotic) experience.
Merry Christmas Brodie and if you like this please give korn’s first three albums a listen when u get the chance it’s unique and heavy like slipknot too
I mean you have to see them live in london it was something else !
If you want skin ticket live, it’s on the live album “9.0 live”
I love this, but why does this dude look like the reaper, the USMC sniper 😅😂
You should react to Slipknot - people = sh*t live version in london 2002
been waiting for this, thxx
love this album
hEY dude Just Thank YoU FoR ENyOYING!
