Been a long time since I visited this album. So glad I did with someone listening for the first time that has an open ear! One thing to remember about metal is, songs about beef aren't always necessarily about a specific person but just the expression of those emotions and songs about criminal or horror matter are often just the telling of a tale. Artistic expression is a wide spectrum. Thanks for making my work night pass 😂 I am an old school metal head who enjoyed live, the birth of thrash and many other genres of metal over the years and as an old head, still enjoy many styles. I now enjoy watching younger folks dive in to the madness 😂
Energetic music with passion like this is what they dont want to be mainstream so they stigmatize it. Thats why low energy depressed music is mainstream. You got A LOT of good metal to catchup on. Its endless.
I know you considered scissors to be “trash” but, there’s an extremely dark story behind it if you do some research if you feel like it. it’s their darkest song imo. for example, the lyrics “biding my time until the time is right” is talking about the right time to take his own life- that being extremely dark. scissors overall has a dark but interesting message!
another thing to add is the vocalist’s (corey taylor) hysterical screams, which are just considered to be him releasing anger or trauma. that’s essentially what scissors is, a release of traumatic experiences. corey had a very dark past, as well as the other members of the band- and they perfectly incorporate it into their music. that’s what i love about them:)
For this reason, Scissors and Iowa (the song) are my favourites. If I ever really need to let out a lot of pent up anger I'll throw one of them on and scream along.
