    How can somebody listen to this album and still say they aren’t real metal?!?!? This album alone is heavier than most death metal bands!!!

    • @ragey_8000
      @ragey_8000 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +34

      Pure facts bro. Endless blast beats and typical death metal screams/growls just dont compare to the raw emotion and realness here. And knowing about the dark history of many of the band members who really werent doing well mentally during this period confirms it.

    • @claudegibson7650
      @claudegibson7650 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +18

      @@ragey_8000 That’s why I always say that early 2000’s Metal just hit different. Anybody can write about war, demons, politics, gore, and satirical violence. These bands were talking about everyday bullshit we all go through. It was angry, honest, and relatable and a lot of the times had a positive message to it. It takes a lot of courage to put your heart on your sleeve like that. The New Wave of American Metal (this is what it was called when I was in highschool) is by far my favorite era.

I remember seeing the cover in a GradeAUnderA video and turning on Spit It Out. It really threw me for a loop and didn't really like it but, the morning after I decided to relisten and then that's when it clicked. That was early 6th grade and now I'm in my senior year of high school, crazy how time flies. I still absolutely love this album and you should totally check out their second project Iowa. Been a long time since I visited this album. So glad I did with someone listening for the first time that has an open ear! One thing to remember about metal is, songs about beef aren't always necessarily about a specific person but just the expression of those emotions and songs about criminal or horror matter are often just the telling of a tale. Artistic expression is a wide spectrum. Thanks for making my work night pass 😂 I am an old school metal head who enjoyed live, the birth of thrash and many other genres of metal over the years and as an old head, still enjoy many styles. I now enjoy watching younger folks dive in to the madness 😂

    I know you considered scissors to be “trash” but, there’s an extremely dark story behind it if you do some research if you feel like it. it’s their darkest song imo. for example, the lyrics “biding my time until the time is right” is talking about the right time to take his own life- that being extremely dark. scissors overall has a dark but interesting message!

    • @n0t4nali3se
      @n0t4nali3se ปีที่แล้ว +21

      another thing to add is the vocalist’s (corey taylor) hysterical screams, which are just considered to be him releasing anger or trauma. that’s essentially what scissors is, a release of traumatic experiences. corey had a very dark past, as well as the other members of the band- and they perfectly incorporate it into their music. that’s what i love about them:)

    you need to listen to frail limb nursery/purity (it's just one song) which is one of the best on this album but is not available on official media (purity is on the self-titled 10th anniversary album) for copyright reasons etc... and please keep reacting to slipknot, their second album iowa is going to be more insane than the self-titled

    25:07 It really does. If you can stand listening to it, the endorphins hit HARD.
    Edit: Since you mentioned Tony Hawk Pro Skater, please react to some Busdriver.

    The vocalist, Corey Taylor, is probably one of the best modern vocalists. Not only metal, but any genre. He can pretty much do anything. His voice range is huge and he can go fast or slow. He is the epitome of a genius vocalist.

    Glad you got to check this out. Love this album. Iowa is their next one and it’s fucking nuts…. Unbridled rage. You would probably enjoy the album after that one as well. Good luck with your TH-cam channel!

    I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet but the original version of the album had Frail Limb Nursery and Purity instead of Me Inside. It was an interlude that transitioned into Purity and is definitely worth a listen!

    If you dig the mixing of electronic samples and heavy metal/hardcore definitely check out Vein - Errorzone. They're a more modern hardcore version of this style and they do it so well.

    totally agree with you about TATTERED AND TORN, it's a heavily underrated song, it is one my favourites, if not my all time favourite. you should check out "Tattered & Torn/ Frail Limb Nursery/ Purity" for the FULL uncut version! masterpiece.

    I think Scissors was an artistic release for Corey. In an interview he said that he was sexually ab**ed as child so that could have something do with the strangeness of the song.

    You talk about wanting to see them live or in studio. Fun fact their singer Corey Taylor was naked and cutting himself while recording their album after this IOWA. Arguably their best and heaviest album. I think its the heaviest album ever.

    you're one of the first people I've seen give attention and enjoyment from tattered and torn lmao. I love it too right but I feel like its not like, "a listenable song" if you will. Very much just for atmosphere but I love it alot lmao, super fun to listen too.
