This is great. Personally though, I've enjoyed torrenting the Master Collection and applying mods. It's made playing 2 and 3 amazing. I'd still say emulating 1 is best though. There's no saving that port.

I have demonstrated on my channel that upscaling MGS3 (and 2 by extension) on RPCS3 actually looks worse than using the 4K mod that came out soon after the MC got released. I also had major issues with MGS3 near the end, where it kept giving me infinite loading screens after the penultimate boss. Had to replay the boss 5-6 times in order to progress. I know it's not my specs, because I have a 7700X and a 4070Ti. TL;DR - wait for a major sale or... you know, and then use the 4K mod that exists for free, and play MGS2 and MGS3 that way on PC, in true 4K. Not upscaled from 720p. The only "major" issue that exists right now in MGS3 is that the DoF effect goes away. That's up to preference.
I've struggled with pcs3, honestly playing the titles on psx2 is really great too. It's not perfect but better than the $60 nonesense for games I already own on ps1 and ps2 and ps3.
i personally wouldn't touch it, my computers i have wouldn't be able to run it anyways, using the PS2 versions is a far better option which would also work on the steam deck too
what about the input lag, i heard ps2 emulators are kinda ass on that and don't do much to negate it and hence it feels like there is more input lag then og versions
@@MGrey-qb5xz I haven't had any issues with input lag and psx2. When I'm upscaling, sometimes it can get kinda choppy. Think the rain in the tanker chapter on MGS2. Otherwise it's pretty smooth on my PC with hardly any configuration. My pc was beefy 10 years ago.
@MGrey-qb5xz the input lag is terrible on PCSX2. The only workaround that makes a difference for me is playing it using the software renderer. The two downsides are it is heavy for weaker cpus and you can only run it in its original resolution.
SO i had already bought the collection. I played MG,MG2SS, and MGS1. Great time, wasn't expecting much graphically especially since it was the first time i had played MGS1 myself. I wanted to also experience MGS Twin Snakes ( which; unpopular opinion, i thought was a great way to experience the original's story) so I used Dolphin to run it and it looked great! Since i had the Vol. 1 collection, i was like "okay time to start up MGS2"... and immediately realized the MGS Twin Snakes emulation looked quite some notches better than the port on that collection we've received in the year 2023 -_- i was disappointed to say the least. I ran into this video and I'm glad i did cause i was honestly really enjoying how good that Twin Snakes emulation looked for such an old game. Downloading the emulation now. Hoping all goes well cause i would like to replay these amazing games in their full glory. Also just greatfull i got a tutorial on downloading a ps3 emulator cause i was definitely going to buy a whole ps3 to play other ps3 games! So thanks a alot for the tutorial!!
@@mycardboardbox game booted up okay but unfortunately i'm running into an issue where i'm not exactly sure how to access these "advanced settings" to be able to add the 4k stuff to it. If it's under "Configuration --> Advanced" all i'm getting is a pop up saying "Fatal Error" and just straight up crashes the emulator. Some help on this would be super appreciated cause getting those juicy settings was the main point of switching over to RPCS3 to play metal gear instead of the crappy Collection
for those with the same issues... i fixed my problem by updating my drivers manually. But now i'm having another issue. (sigh). with the settings that were provided in this video.. i tried my best to copy everything but it was a tad confusing cause i guess with the the update that RPCS3 got, it looks a bit different with some additional options and box checks not having any blue, just white, a couple reds, and the blank unmarked. So the problem that i'm having is that when i'm booting up the game, it gets stuck literally on the last numer or numbers of "building SPU cache... Progress: module 129 of 130" or whatever the number or numbers might be... so i literally can't even boot up the game to see how the settings are working. Maybe the update and additional settings might have something to do with it. (ALSO FORGOT TO ASK)... in advanced settings where the "firmware libraries" section is... there's quite a few other boxes left to check there and i wasn't sure if you checked them all as well. (i did) assuming you did as well because all of the ones that are visible are checked...

It's nice that MGS3 is finally on PC, but yeah this wasn't worth $60. I only got it to sync between the Steam Deck and my PC. I've noticed that the audio in 2 and 3 is a bit fuzzy as well. Although I haven't had any framerate issues. Wait for a sale y'all.

I don't really get this. The modern PC version has WORSE performance than the originals. Graphical errors not present in the originals, (filters and effects missing, etc), texture artifacts, crashes, frame drops not present in the originals, horrible ui, again, all things that were not present in the original. You are effectively saying people don't care about preservation because they don't want to play a downgraded version of the originals. Emulating gives you the option of closely reproducing what it was like on the originals, while also giving the option of higher resolution and performance, should you choose to do so. If the modern port was 1:1 with the originals, or even better, I could understand your point.
Duckstation updates pack malware? Since when dude? The project is open source, and it's combed through pretty thoroughly on the regular. If you use any antivirus like avast or norton I would strongly suggest getting rid of it, they slow down your pc, give you false positive flags, almost always, and they're a security risk since most of them scan your files, god knows what they do with that info. Anyway, thanks for the two disk trick, I'm going to definitely use it since I'm in an MGS mood as of late.

I personally wouldn’t worry about that at all. I’ve been an emulation and video game piracy rat for quite some time and I’ve never seen or heard of anyone getting malware from updating an emulator. Just be careful download roms and make sure you’re clicking the right download link

The only thing worth getting is the bonus content for the digital graphic novel but it's behind a paywall having to grab MGS1-3 games. So you might want to sail the seas 🏴☠ to get just that. Plus getting the original games you won't have to deal with deleted scenes and deleted mini-games in MGS3, you won't have to deal with input lag on MGS1, and MGS2 messed up cut scenes (as mentioned by the video). In addition, another game collection Konami (and their co-porter) ruined Silent Hill collections so you can do the same process as above for those titles.
Yeah, I have to be in favor of this (especially for PC) as the Master Collection has a fair share of issues that I don't think I'll play them again once I complete the Platinum Trophies on the Ps4 version in the long run... I wanted to give Konami the benefit of doubt, and they failed big time (yeah, I admit I like the convenience of the collection to save space on my PC, but I think I rather use a PC for that or the original platforms or my Ps3... for the Ps2 games, maybe Snake Eater I'll use my Ps3 along with Solid 4 if I don't use a PC, Solid 2 my Ps2... heck, even the Substance PC port is much better than the Master Collection... especially on PC, Solid 1... yeah, Ps3 if I play on console... You need a dualshock 3 and the correct driver to work with the pressure sensitive buttons which are a part of MGS PS3 games - so, no. Play the 360 version in Xenia instead if you are going to go the emulation route. or if you buy t he master collection play 2 and 3 with he awesome mod that makes it as Konami should have done to begin with.

I haven't tried 2 and 3 from HD collection but at least MGS4 from PS3 runs like a crap on my I7 8700K and still has many problems at current time... For MGS1 actually I think it's by miles better to go Twin Snakes at 8K and use the HD (4upscale) texture pack and use the uncensor cheat built-in the dolphin emulator, it really makes a true MGS 1 re-remaster and with my current settings it's going pretty smooth for me. MGS2 and 3 from Master Collection have lots of mods and fixes by the community already and keeps increasing over time and you can increase resolution too...
so crazy that despite the frame rate and graphics improvements in hd collection (then downgraded in master collection alongside audio lol), the ps2 ports are still better
The old 'just use a PC' argument is pretty lame. These all play fine on the ps5, and 2+3 look and sound great on my massive TV and sound system. If emulation is so great, why did you PC master race dorks buy the master collection in the first place. Why are we here, just to suffer? In time they will all be remade in UE5, released in chronological order going 3,1,2,4, if you make the old ones look better, it takes the shine of the proper remakes, delta etc.

I saw a video from this one channel called “Metal gear” something and boy were they kissing the boot on this master collection lol. Almost every other channel I saw was honest and said that it was just a cash grab
some people are misinformed, and some love poor quality games, they will gobble up anything the devs turd out there executive assholes so many downplaying it, instead of saying it as it is and if feelings get hurt, oh well
Xenia Canary > RPCS3, just because of the controls for MGS2 and 3. No pressure sensitivity on modern controller face buttons is an issue. Xbox has the workaround with L3.
additionally the integral version is the definitive version of the game is the best one, on top of that the twin snakes version is the one that is up to date if you prefer to play that one too

hello, it might be worth just double checking all your drivers are up to date, the problem is the emulator setting may not work the ones i used because it depends on your pc set up, i recommend right clicking on the game itself and go to the rpcs3 website to see what are the most stable settings to run the game on for your pc, you may also need to update your game to, by going to this website you will be able to do so the moderators there should be able to help you set it up and get the updates which are really simple its just a drag and drop on to the game interface (when the games not booted of course) join that link and it should give you some help, even i use it too, hoped that helped! discord.com/invite/4XQ8RkX53j

m3u document in your mgs 1 folder on your files desktop were you have your disc 1 and disc 2 files in go VIEW - SHOW (FILE EXTENSIONS) the m3u should be a "file" not folder, try it

ye join rpcs3 on discord and talk to the moderators who can help you, u need to get the updates from the dc channel and drag the file into the rpcs3 interface on mgs4 , right click mgs4 "manage game patches" and check for updates
cancelled my preorder when amazon changed the delivery date. quick cash grab from konami and it's a shame they did this. I'll worry about this version for the trophy support when its on sale and hopefully vol.2 is better. hopefully they learn from this debacle but i doubt it.

MGS4 frequently crashes on RPCS3. I even used the official settings recommended by RPCS3, and installed all suggested patches as well.

Xenia Canary > RPCS3, just because of the controls for MGS2 and 3. No pressure sensitivity on modern controller face buttons is an issue. Xbox has the workaround with L3.
ya can set mock pressure inputs on rpcs3...its easy to sort out.
@@seeker2657 How would you switch between the pressure settings on the fly? Cause sometimes you'd want half press, sometimes you'd want full press.
Don't play Europe MGS 1, play NTSC version instead of Pal - PAL is slower due to 50hrz
additionally the integral version is the definitive version of the game is the best one, on top of that the twin snakes version is the one that is up to date if you prefer to play that one too

hello, it might be worth just double checking all your drivers are up to date, the problem is the emulator setting may not work the ones i used because it depends on your pc set up, i recommend right clicking on the game itself and go to the rpcs3 website to see what are the most stable settings to run the game on for your pc, you may also need to update your game to, by going to this website you will be able to do so the moderators there should be able to help you set it up and get the updates which are really simple its just a drag and drop on to the game interface (when the games not booted of course) join that link and it should give you some help, even i use it too, hoped that helped! discord.com/invite/4XQ8RkX53j

There is an option of "saved emulator process" in the PS bottom (I play with a DualShock 4) but then when I run the game again there is nothing in the hard disk drive so I can not load It.

Twin snakes is utter trash sadly...i would only play that after playing the vastly superior ps1 versions...twin snakes is an abortion of a remake in a multitude of ways.

@@mycardboardbox I have the same gpu drivers as you honestly and they’re all updated and yes Im playing the HD collection. But the new version of RPSC3 has newer options now that aren’t displayed on the video so I don’t know if that’s the problem

I've done everything the video says but when I go to load the m3u folder its not there
m3u document in your mgs 1 folder on your files desktop were you have your disc 1 and disc 2 files in go VIEW - SHOW (FILE EXTENSIONS) the m3u should be a "file" not folder, try it

ye join rpcs3 on discord and talk to the moderators who can help you, u need to get the updates from the dc channel and drag the file into the rpcs3 interface on mgs4 , right click mgs4 "manage game patches" and check for updates
