Saying it right now that its better than Hilux and close to Ranger. That said looking forward to see what Nissan offer for Navara, which I hear might have E:Power version.
Close to a ranger? Doesn’t have a v6, has a shitty tablet on the dash, shit tray, no 12v, no tailgate dampener, looks fucking atrocious, it’s not even on the same planet.
Once you put a bullbar on the front it will look ok. I like the interior and the fact it still has Buttons to operate the AC, Looks classy enough and looks like it will wear well. But having 150kw 470nm and a 6 speed Auto??? My RG Colorado from 2013 Had a 6 speed auto, 150kw and 500nm. That was 11 Years ago.
The elephant in the room is always that all the damned Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara, Toyota Hailux, Ww Amark and all the other small Pickups are that their cabins are not big enough and therefore the cars are WAY too expensive because they are simply useless as family cars. The cars cost the same as SUV cars and are also more expensive than SUV cars, but you only get half a car compared to the SUVs. There is simply too little legroom in the back seat and the cars are also too narrow. A man of 183cm cannot sit comfortably in the back seat of any of those pickups because there is NO LEG ROOM. So what the hell are we paying for when we can't have our 17 year old sons and daughters sitting in the back seat. THE CABINS ARE TOO SMALL AND WE GET TOO LITTLE CARS FOR THE PRICES OF THE CARS. Why isn't anyone talking about the damn problem with the small cabins. No legroom equals the fact that the cars cannot be used for families with children aged 15. Too little legroom.
You are absolutely right. I bought a new 2013 hilux. I used to sleep in the back seat. Tons of room. Since then family members have bought new hiluxes and rangers. They really struggle with carseats and kids and stuff. I find my daughters newish hilux is uncomfortably small.
The jittering over bumps is a real observation... its feels like you are about to lose control of the vehicle. I love my Glx 4x4 but thats my main gripe...
Very nice looking car, I just hope unlike the previous models where I had to duck my head to get in the car due to the way the roof design is, that this model don't have to, that was a deal breaker! Can't wait to drive one
Thanks for a nice, balanced review. I like that you don't hold back. And dark headlining is godawful! You mention child seats, and I'd be keen to hear what a mother thought of elevating a chunky 3-years-old up into a child seat, and where she'd put the pram whilst taking the vehicle to the supermarket when this commercial vehicle is given family duties. I'm also wondering if Mitsubishi is really reaping the benefits of its alliance with Nissan/Renault, because the Outlander has garnered some excellent reviews, and now the Triton looks to be heading in the same direction though I'm not in the market for any diesel-engined vehicle with a rear suspension that was old in my great-grandfather's day. I'm old enough to recall Mitsubishi releasing some excellent vehicles and then leaving them on the market for far too long without upgrading them - perhaps due to a lack of money to develop a new version - and I hope those days are in the past because when Mitsubishi gets it right, it is _really_ right.
I agree but it could be better if the front facia and rear looks more appealing to eyes of any person. Mitsubishi should learn how the FORD made an appealing looks. They are for a purpose as UTE but they should also consider the looks. I mean just like the vibes of wearing your favorite attire everyday which is nice to eyes. The brand is one of the best but not the looks

I love my GLX 4x4 which i took possession of just 3 weeks ago.. my main disappointment is how it shudders over bumps on roads. It feels like you may lose control at times... i hope mitsubishi engineer a fix which can be added to existing models
I think there is a fix already for this, Mitsubishi are selling 20kg bags of set concrete that can be place around the tub for better handling and smoother ride.....they even have Mitsubishi logo on the bag!
Be careful what you wish for. I have a 22 GLX+ and fit an "afterthought" Alpine head unit that sits offset from the dash and can tilt, which helps reduce sun glare. The big screens fixed into the dash cannot be adjusted and are difficult to see in harsh sunlight.
You mentioned Lane keep assist . Do u really mean lane keep assist or just lane departure warning? Self steering would be good like one in bt50 or amarok or cannon
Triton looks pretty good but would definitely choose the Amarok V6 Style which I can get for $70 with 5 years free servicing. Still a lot of money though.
Definitely up there with the Ranger with a slight edge on reliability. Why it isn't a deal breaker not having toneau covers or roller lids in the back like the top spec Fords? Well, it's way CHEAPER yet is more capable especially off-road, that Super Select II system is king. Good review here, Matt 👌🏼
is it needed though? if the final drive ratio is right there is no need for an extra 2 over-drive gears, also as Matt said the transmission appears to downshift on inclines, that is actually better as the engine is not labouring in 6th gear, on the other hand it would make for an ordinary drive if the gears are shifting between 6ths and 5th which suggest not enough torque (or in this case turbo lag) to pull top gear.
I love they way they are ALL trying to chase the Ranger, even to the point of copying the colour and styling. These is a lot to be said for Ford’s solid R&D department.
I wonder why manufacturers bring new model vehicle out and yet fail to recognise simple things that other manufacturers fit. You mentioned the rear gate not being damped, the lack of lighting in the load area, cheap and nasty type tub liner in stead of a spray in one, no cover and unusually, one top tether making it more onerous to fit multiple child seats. I like the styling but pricing and failings let me down in a purchase decision.
The argument from Mitsubishi at the launch is that they have a mantra of continuous improvement. So, expect model year changes that may include some of those.
My husband already has a 5 year old Triton and this new one craps all over the old one. I can't wait till he gets his new one in July. It will be a GLS, but top of the line for that model. WE took it for a test drive and fell in love with it. It will be even better for when we are towing our caravan.
As having the previous top spec as a company vehicle it was OK. The front and rear suspension just didn’t feel as if they were working together. Nice feel from the front and truck like from the rear that felt better when carrying weight. At least the front end design was statistically safer for pedestrians. Just don’t understand why they are making these wider with a much higher front end like the American ones, where the pedestrian deaths from these has gone up! Same for push bike and motorbike riders as a slopping front end means collision with pedestrians and the like will have them go over the bonnet. The oversized tall fronts simply push them forward and you then drive over them with less than ideal vision for children. I won’t be asking for any of the new ones for this reason.
I think the redesign is meant to make pedestrians and other vulnerable road users safer due to different materials and construction, but I hear what you’re saying.
@@Murakai If drums are so " good ", why do the likes of Landcruiser, Patrol, Ram, Silverado etc have discs all round ???????? Drums suffer from brake fade when braking with big loads, and are shit after water crossings!
well the positive is that means its Euro 6 emissions, the downside is you will have to make sure there is adblue in the SRC tank otherwise the engine wont stat, but that wont be an issue per say.
Still not sure about the fuel emissions standards coming in 2025 which affects 4wd that pulls out more than 200g/km of CO2. My Rexton is Euro 6 diesel with reduced NO2 but C02 emissions are above 200g same like other Euro 6 engines. If the government is only concerned about carbon emissions then what is the point of Euro 6 diesel?
Not keen on the painted bumper and grille, and the Navara rear doors. Paying that much for a new ute you'd want it to look good and be useful off road.
because the USA has a 25% tariff for these type of commercial vehicles if they are imported. Look up "chicken tax" to learn more about it. Land of the free indeed right ...
My first impression from inspecting one on a hoist (taking a good look at all things structural) is that it's particularly light-duty. It isn't anywhere near as robust as a Hilux or a Ranger. Personally, I wouldn't buy one.
A couple of critical items missed for a long distance tourer or play thing - Low range gearing for decending steep grades off-road. Good, bad, what? Fuel tank capacity? Good, bad what?
So it's gone down the road as every other 4x4 instead of being it's own thing. Getting bigger and heavier with more invasive ADAS Crap. I bought the MQ Exceed over the MR GLS because it was smaller than all the competitor behemoths and doesn't have the ADAS trash.

I'd say no. If you've got the coin for a Ranger, go a Ranger. I'm making the choice to not spend Ranger wildtrak money and Getting the GSR. I have driven it and personally it was a fantastic ride and surprisingly better and tighter than my 2020 Ranger PX3. Is the suspension at the next gen ranger level - no, but it's damn close in my opinion. Have seen another reviewer say the rear jiggled over bumps, no shit. That's what happens with an unladed rear. I didn't find it to jump around in my drive, so really one must ask, what tire pressures were they running on the review car? I know if i got around 3-4 psi too much, my Range becomes a little jiggly. Anyway everything is subjective these days. As much as I wanted a new gen Wildtrak, I think i'll stick with my GSR order as I don't think I'm getting a lesser driving experience. Yes, there are some things the Triton should have that it doesn't, but that will drive the price further up - people are already complaining about prices across the market, and Mitsubishi will do just fine where they have priced themselves. Don't cancel, go to a dealer on the weekend and take one for a drive. If they have the outgoing MR model, take that for a spin, then jump into the new MV to get a sense of how it's changed. Px33 is the first japanese four wheel drive conventional gearbox tranmission is made by mitsubishi px33 in 1917 then Mitsubishi Jeep Willy 1950, pajero 1970, mitsubishi triton is the futuristic advance gearbox tranmission technology can shifting to 100 k mph with gear shifter paddle when speeding on road, mitsubishi have ability to invented a very very very good car because thousands of engineers working in mitsubishi company in various field such as shipping aircraft jet fighter rocket satelite nuklear plant electronic electrical small and large products,Fiat fullback and Fiat Titano is also same doublet of Mitsubishi Triton and the dodgers ram Chrysler USA
I would like to know why android is not wireless.
The touch screen now looks like an afterthought like the Hilux.
Be careful what you wish for. I have a 22 GLX+ and fit an "afterthought" Alpine head unit that sits offset from the dash and can tilt, which helps reduce sun glare. The big screens fixed into the dash cannot be adjusted and are difficult to see in harsh sunlight.
Looks exactly like the others just like the others look like each other now
You mentioned Lane keep assist . Do u really mean lane keep assist or just lane departure warning? Self steering would be good like one in bt50 or amarok or cannon
If I have to choose between a triton and hilux grs , which one do you think should I consider buying. Thanks.
Triton looks pretty good but would definitely choose the Amarok V6 Style which I can get for $70 with 5 years free servicing. Still a lot of money though.
I wish mitsubishi would make a phev version of this in the USA
Definitely up there with the Ranger with a slight edge on reliability. Why it isn't a deal breaker not having toneau covers or roller lids in the back like the top spec Fords? Well, it's way CHEAPER yet is more capable especially off-road, that Super Select II system is king. Good review here, Matt 👌🏼
They are hoping to take some sales from the ranger and the hilux but they have lost the opportunity to match the others with power.
It’s more powerful than it was… but I hear what you’re saying.
Can you show how to connect apple car play iPhone to the dashboard thanks?
Are Ford Rangers 4cyl AWD on the black top like the Triton Canon Amarok and LDV?
Yep they can be. There’s a 4A mode for sealed road all-wheel drive.
4A Only available with the v6 engine from XLT and up model grades!!!
The air con feeds into your back passages? Cool.
FYI its tech from their Xpander series of MPV's that developing markets get, implementation is different though, more upmarket.
@@mindfreeze0838 it would want to be. 😁
What ratio is the low range? I had a super select pajero and it was only 1.9:1. Not deep enough. A weird compromise.
Who doesn't love ' deep ' gears ?
@@perpetualgrin5804I love deep fuel tanks.
@@davidnobular9220 Can't think of anything that's deep except philosophy .
What they could give it an 8 speed auto?
is it needed though?
if the final drive ratio is right there is no need for an extra 2 over-drive gears, also as Matt said the transmission appears to downshift on inclines, that is actually better as the engine is not labouring in 6th gear, on the other hand it would make for an ordinary drive if the gears are shifting between 6ths and 5th which suggest not enough torque (or in this case turbo lag) to pull top gear.
Great review! Very in depth 👏
My husband already has a 5 year old Triton and this new one craps all over the old one. I can't wait till he gets his new one in July. It will be a GLS, but top of the line for that model. WE took it for a test drive and fell in love with it. It will be even better for when we are towing our caravan.
Height adjustable seat belt I have in my Ford Ranger..... Thank you ... I find it funny they copied the colour of the Ranger Wildtrak
Tow test please 🙏
It's still got the same crappy drum brake rear end. So last century !
Even my old 1988 GQ Patrol had discs all round !
Drums are better for off road and towing. Semis still use drums.
@@Murakai If drums are so " good ", why do the likes of Landcruiser, Patrol, Ram, Silverado etc have discs all round ????????
Drums suffer from brake fade when braking with big loads, and are shit after water crossings!
What's the brand of the 2 stage turbo?
Please do a tow test on this triton
I’ve just published a Triton towing test.
What’s the wading depth of the triton?
Is it true that this model Triton now has to have Adblue added???and does it have drum or rear disc brakes ??
Yes it has AdBlue and yes it has rear drum brakes
well the positive is that means its Euro 6 emissions, the downside is you will have to make sure there is adblue in the SRC tank otherwise the engine wont stat, but that wont be an issue per say.
I hope the fuel gage is better than the 2018 model. You think you have plenty of fuel and then drops quite a bit instead of a gradual decline.
Yes mate I’d like a tow test
I've done one mate! th-cam.com/video/ViEBYS-KR1Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=M5_4a7XZC5KxrGJY
I bought a GLXR in 2013 for 41,000. Prices have gone up 50% in 11 years
Many other things, like houses have doubled.
And that is the problem, equity in the house goes up, and so does the spending! #inflation@@geepuller1
Milk has gone up 100 percent last 3 years uk.Houses have gone up 100 % as well in that time frame.
Is this new engine Euro 5 or Euro 6?
Euro 6
Still not sure about the fuel emissions standards coming in 2025 which affects 4wd that pulls out more than 200g/km of CO2. My Rexton is Euro 6 diesel with reduced NO2 but C02 emissions are above 200g same like other Euro 6 engines. If the government is only concerned about carbon emissions then what is the point of Euro 6 diesel?
Not keen on the painted bumper and grille, and the Navara rear doors. Paying that much for a new ute you'd want it to look good and be useful off road.
Looks are subjective, apparently.
Holy shit if you cant let a tailgate down without a drama give it away mate...
you forgot the Navara pro 4x with 5 links suspension. LOL
Maybe they need to add another two turbos and another 3 gears......
How come they dont bring it to America?
because the USA has a 25% tariff for these type of commercial vehicles if they are imported. Look up "chicken tax" to learn more about it.
Land of the free indeed right ...
Chicken tax.
Engine too small ?
As soon as you said a Ford Ranger garbage heap was the primary competition I knew it was time to turn off the video….. seriously?? A Ford??
What planet are you commenting from mate?
AdBlue ?
My first impression from inspecting one on a hoist (taking a good look at all things structural) is that it's particularly light-duty. It isn't anywhere near as robust as a Hilux or a Ranger. Personally, I wouldn't buy one.
Still like a generation behind the Ranger
I dunno.....it now needs AdBlue so there's that.....
A couple of critical items missed for a long distance tourer or play thing - Low range gearing for decending steep grades off-road. Good, bad, what? Fuel tank capacity? Good, bad what?
Pffft, tailgate dampers around AU$30.00 on E pay for most model utilties.
Does the driver attention system become really annoying when wearing sunglasses?
Still non-disk rear brakes?
Correct. Drums for now - discs likely to come later on.
Its easy to be better than the Ranger but the HiLux???
What about new BT 50
It's pretty good, but I'd go for a D-Max instead.
Is this a Nissan 2.4 twin turbo
No it's a new Mitsubishi engine.
Isn't this just a rebadged Nissan Navarra?
No way. This is an entirely new model, and the next Navara will be based on it!
So it's gone down the road as every other 4x4 instead of being it's own thing. Getting bigger and heavier with more invasive ADAS Crap. I bought the MQ Exceed over the MR GLS because it was smaller than all the competitor behemoths and doesn't have the ADAS trash.
It’s still smaller than most of them, so calm down.
Wow got my Gls premium for 46k nov 2020 now its almost 60k 😂
i want that digital odometer though
Do i need to cancel my order?
find out at 12:01am 1/3/24!!!! being a mitsi, i'm sure it's going to be perfectly serviceable, but uninspiring and less modern than the ranger/mux options.
Hard to say I'm coming from a dmax and mux which their top spec don't even have full time awd or 360 motion camera.
@@dam0683Say that again. In Thailand it's beautiful in real life. Video and photos don't look like the real thing. Super select is one of a kind sent from God
It'll be worth your while!
@jamelterk470 your reply is spot on will look forward to my graphite grey vrx nz model which is the gsr athlete spec model with tow bar, canopy, bonet protection, weather sheilds for $69k nzd.
I’m waiting on the GWM Cannon Alpha
I will bring you a review on it when I can. 🫣
Just sits under a GWM Ute
100,000km warranty if you service it outside Mitsubishi is downright laughable
