Hey, love the video! Quick question. I recently switched from electric shaving to safety razor shaving and I bought the 6c. Since I’m a beginner I tried using the level 1 but it seems to cause skin irritation. I have coarse hair, is that the reason why? I used the level 1 to start with since it’s labeled for beginners when switching from other shaving techniques. Should I bump the level up to get a smoother shaving experience even if I’m fairly new to safety razors? Thanks!
That’s great. Yes, I have course hair as well and I shave on level 4 to 6. I would go up to 4 take one pass/stroke with the grain. If it’s still tugging and not slicing keep going up one plate at a time. When it starts slicing, finish your 1st pass. On your 2nd pass you may want to go down one or two levels because the bulk of your hair was removed on the 1st pass. Let us know how it goes
I chuckle with the talk about razor longevity. You hit it on the head about taking care of your equipment. There are 100yr old Gillettes out there, which are not stainless steel, that’s pretty much a lifetime. Awesome video today, appreciate you.
I have both the rockwell 6 C and 6S, and i prefer the shave of the 6 C, it just feels more agile and provides a smoother shave overall..Just my 2 cents..
I’m always amazed when I shave with my 6C. I’ll be honest, I love my vintage Gillettes, my EJ, Fatips, but the moment the 6C starts cutting it’s the king of smoothness and post shave results. It’s not the most beautiful razor out there, but it just works like nothing else. Plate 4 + BIC or Gillette platinum, WTG and 2 ATG passes. Perfect BBS.
After using the 6c for the past 2 years I received a 6s in the post today. In my opinion, the 6s felt smoother and more efficient than the 6c. I used the plate 4 on both razors.
I'm a two-year wet shaver. I bought the 6S last week mostly because of videos like this. The #2 plate works fine for me. (Sensitive skin) $104 delivered from West Coast Shaving.
Nice showdown. It's hard to beat the 6C or 6S for close, comfortable, and irritation-free shaves. I couldn't tell any difference between the 6C and 6S. It was interesting that you felt the 6C was "sharper"...especially since the 6S is heavier. I never noticed that. Another example of YMMV. Price-wise, the 6C is perfect for beginners.
You can’t go wrong with Rockwell razors. My first one was a 6C…then a 6S…and finally a T2. They all work great. My favorite over time is the T2. It is just so convenient to use. The TTO and gap adjust on the fly…saves so much time….and the shave compares well with the 6S/C. All three are just great razors. The T2 SS would be also….but at over $200…it is more than I can justify spending for a razor.
The 6S on plate 4 with Astra Green...best combo for my face that I have found yet! I still haven't tried the 5 or 6 plate yet. Maybe someday. Such an awesome razor!
thanks for all very well detailed reviews, i live in Brazil and good safety razors are too expensive to make a bad choice. I think the Rockwell 6S will be the razor of my life.
I like the way you filmed this video, adding in music, different angles and shots, as well as what seemed to be voice-over you added to parts of the video. Great job, and I appreciate the advice you give on this hobby.
I own both and every time I use them, I enjoy them more than I did the last time. If your a newbie the 6c is the way to go. With minimal care, it will give you close comfortable shaves for life. For 50.00 you won't regret you're purchase.
Great video comparison today. I am a huge fan of my 6S. My opinion regarding having multiple plates for different levels of aggresions is one no one talks about. I believe Rockwell went with changing plates specifically provides the efficiency and comfort. The blade in the 6S or 6C sits on a plate securley without a bit a chatter preventing blade vibration. By design the adjustibles with a dial are great razors but they are not capable of securing the blade to the razor like a fixed plate bing used by Rockwell. Well that's my 2 cents.
Fun video, David, thanks. Have you compared various shave oils? Just got my first bottle (Shave Secret) and haven't tried it yet (next shave!)...just curious how much difference brand makes in them. All the best...
Thank you David. Another great one. Have you done a shave off with these two razors after you let l kept your shaving regimen move regular and only had 1-2 days of growth.
How could the 6C be "sharper" than the 6S? What physical difference could explain that? Smoother, yes, because of the smooth chrome plating. But sharper? "That's just my opinion" -- huh?
I'm very disappointed with Rockwell. I started with DE razor 4 months ago. About 3 months ago, I bought a 6s, influenced by your videos with your Rockwell. It turns out that, in my razor, the blade is not centered and it's slightly misaligned. As I bought it from a seller in my country (due to customs tax), Rockwell does not take responsibility directly with me. The seller sent them my claim with photos. I'm still waiting for the resolution after 5 WEEKS!!! Rockwell does not respond! Disappointing! But I love that razor, despite... I just wished it was undamaged. By the way, great videos! I learned a lot from you. I also have sensite skin and coarse beard.
@@OhioShaves Thank you for your sugestion, but the legal issue in this situation is not the problem. I don't even need to change seller. The law gives me the right, this minute, to ask for my money back or to have a new, non-defective product. The point is, Rockwell ignores someone who bought his second best safety razor with defect, while advertising that gives for free parts to someone who "lost or broke" one... Mind blowing!!!
Send me a email to davidmartin8000@gmail.com. I may be able to push this along easier with my contacts there. If you want to take this to another level
@@OhioShaves Thank's for all your support, but it won't be necessary this time. The seller, in the lack of response from Rockwell, stepped forward and will send me a new razor. Rockwell is a great brand, as a manufacturer. This time I had no luck, but I won't have any problems buying from them again. However, they must absolutely improve their customer support! David, offering your help to someone you don't know, in the first contact, shows your character. If most people were like that, the world would be a great place!!! Thank you.
Thx for your videos? How would you compare to the Parker 78R? I usually go with ATG first pass which I find minimizes razor burn. I used to go with a first passWTG , then stumbled upon this approach after 35 years of wet shaving. Coarse beard, average skin.
I'm still on the fence with a PARKER. I need to do a comparison to the 34C. It's definitely not as smooth as a Rockwell or a Henson not even a leaf. But what I could recall it was right there with the 34C. I truly believe that the art of wet shaving all depends on the person skin type and hair. If that works for you that is fantastic. You've already figured out what works for you. After that it's just technique and all the other wonderful things that you can purchase to acquire better shave. I'm starting to really get into soaps, pre-shaves and shaving balms. As I age, I can totally see the difference between some of the shaving balms. Leaving my skin, silky, smooth and getting rid of wrinkles is definitely a plus.
@@OhioShaves thanks much for the detailed response. One can certainly can go down the rabbit hole with this stuff. The adjustability on the Rockwell and the Parker Variant appeals to me because the skin on my neck is more prone to razor burn than on my face, so perhaps I could change to accommodate? I need to check out some soaps and balms. My Sister got my Clinique shave cream for men 40 years ago which was pretty great and to be honest, some of the products made for women are actually really good if you can find one unscented. These days, I just put some coconut oil on my face and go about my day. I used the Parker 78 last night which is the first safety razor shave I've ever done. It took a bit more work to get BBS than my cartridge razor and am wondering if I need something more "aggressive". I didn't have a nick or cut. I'll keep experimenting and am just wondering if I made a good choice with the 78R.
@Ronald Parrish I don't have the Konsul and don't plan to spend this amount on a razor, but the description as no blade feel and "like a laser across the skin" makes me very curious if this is really the case. David will hopefully share this with us in the future..
Great video. Lots of great information. I have both the 6C and 6S. To me, I prefer the 6S with the number 3 plate. I think I like it because of the heft. Most of my everyday soaps are from PAA along with their Space Jelly as after shave. I also use The Cube from PAA for pre shave. Give these a try if you haven't done so yet. Have a great week.
Great video wish I could have had advice like this when I started using a de razor years ago the 6C is my favorite of the two I could use it every day and be happy your right about the blades haven’t found one yet that won’t give you a great shave in this razor
I like my Rockwell. My favorite razor is now my T2SS and a medium setting. 3. First pass 2 second. Now on my 6 i like plate 6. Its actually a mild setting on plate 6. Oh 5 on second pass. Actually if i want a nice daily shave i can use plate 4. For a newby I'd probably suggest plate 3. Then 2. But i can get a good 3 pass shave on 2.
Your remark about pre-shave oil helping the lather stick to the face was also what you say in another recent video. The viewpoint I have is that applying an oil (even if it is "pre-shave") is like putting soil or dirt on your face before applying the lather; which would seem like something one would not want to do. Even so, I HAVE tried a couple of oils as if they were pre-shave oil, just to see how would be. I did this a couple or so years ago, and my results were inconsistent. I may say more about this later. YOUR experience with pre-shave oil for yourself have been better and more consistent than mine.
I recently got my first DE (Henson AL13 Mild) coming from years of Mach 3 Fusion cartridges. Mach 3 has always been better for me than the cheaper brands like Bic or Dorco. I shave once every 2 weeks and my hair is pretty coarse. I was hopeful for the Henson, but i had to swipe so many times to get the job done and it left me with a bit of irritation which I almost never have with mach 3 fusion. Note: I use hot/wet washcloth before hand and Barbasol cream. So, I tried the Feather blade to see if that helped, but that was similar, but even more irritation. So, I'm getting refunded on the Henson but don't want to completely give up on DE razors. So, I'm considering the 6C. Do you think my issue is that the Henson was too mild and all the swipes ended up irritating me? They claimed theirs would be LESS irritating. I know 2 weeks is long but the mach 3 could handle it even though it took 2-3 passes. Anyway, but my particular situation I'm wondering your thoughts. Seems like you still had some irritation even when you said it was a great shave, so I'm wondering if that's just the case with DE razors if you have 2 weeks growth, in which case it might be better for me to stick with mach 3 despite the higher cost, if only using 1 blade every 2 weeks. Once issue with the Henson was that after I shaved off the cream i was getting a lot of friction..even before my 2nd pass. With mach 3 fusion, i think the lubricative strip kept the friction down. It's not like I can put on more cream with every single repeat swipe. anyway, thanks for listening.
The Rockwell with the six plate is definitely going to be more aggressive than the Henen mild. If you're shaving off two weeks of growth, you might want a more aggressive razor. My actually have a video coming out in two minutes shaving a weeks worth of growth with one pass.
The further down the handle in your grip the more the tendency to use your wrist - at least that's been my limited experience. The closer to the top of the razor the less I'm tempted to "flip my wrist". I'll also say (out loud) "angle" when I start a section - that reminds me to avoid bad angles and longer strokes.
I can only think that a small few don't clean their razor. I take mine apart, clean it and let it air dry after every shave. I have no signs of wear whatsoever on my 6C. You can pick one up for $50 using my code: Ohio_Shaves 🔗getrockwell.com/ohio_shaves
Nice shave .. for all Rockwell 6c and 6s lovers like my self if you guys want the stand for this razor .. there at ETFY I got mine in white there very nice .. plates in front of your razor ..
Best thing is changing aggression based on how my face feels. Typically I use the 3 plate (shave everyday) but I can dial it up or down. Great video as always, keep up the great work
@@OhioShaves Problem is he is always pushing his products so it's hard to see it as a fair review. I thought he was unreasonably harsh on the Pearl Flexi on which he came to a completely different conclusion than SinatraLennon who I tend to agree with. However Matt does have a good business and they are creating interesting products and I like some of them which is why it would be great to see an impartial review on the Rhodium Rockwell 6S.
Man I finally got a 6s, went from Viking Meiji. Had no idea a razor could be so different from another. This 6s is a total different beast and I feel cheated using that dam vikings blade. I've never heard the hair being cut before. I hear the hair being cut. Using 7 o'clock.
So.... 6s or T2ss? 6s with full kit 176usd and T2ss with only support base 247usd. I'm so confused to wich I should get. Is the extra 60usd worth considering m not getting full kit?
Do you prefer a butterfly razor? Do you need a razor that is a little more aggressive? Do you need a razor that has micro adjustments or do you prefer plates to swap out in your adjustable razor? Both razors are extremely good. You will not regret your purchase on either razor. They're that good
My first razor was Muehle r41. I was cutting myself a lot at first, before I got the technique down. To the feedback of my friends and guys on the web, the Rockwells don't have this strong blade-sensativity. You don't feel the difference that clearly between feather and personna for example as you would on a Muehle razor. And for a beginner it's a good thing as cutting yourself is much harder. By the way I finally got the technique down with Feather Artist Club SR shavette razor with the straight handle. Now my two-pass shave got even cleaner. Once you get through the first two weeks, it's not even that hard to find that correct angle with a straight razor. As there is no handle, you can feel how the hair gets cut much better and you get a strong response, if your angle is not spot on (more resistance).
I had the 6S and he wasn`t my favorite - I changed him against a Razorock Gamechanger 0.84 (people call me crazy because of that). I have a 2C which I really like with plate 3. Now I bought a 6C too.
I can only compare my blue 6s to my king c gillette which is chrome, as I do not own a 6c. With that said I enjoy the feeling of the 6s on my skin way more than the king c. Glad I went with this one.
I haven't used the Rockwell but I have used chrome plated vs matte/media blasted razors before. In my experience (in a hot humid environment) the matte finish is preferable. Chrome is more slick when your face is very wet and not too hot, but if you're skin is moist, warm, and sticky, Chrome's super even surface will grip the skin. The matte finish has less friction in that scenario.
So I got one for you. How bout a comparison between the Rockwell 6S. Start on 4 or 5 then 3 then 1 or 2. Vs Leaf Torn on the first and second pass then Twig on the third. Interesting indeed. It would be fun and informative.
I have the 6C and 6S. I don’t know if I got a bad 6C or what but I hate the damn thing, shaves totally different than my 6S. Way more aggressive than my S. I honestly think the top cap must be out of spec.
I use the all of them but my best head shave razor is the leaf razor Leaf Shaves Razors: 10% off code: OHIOSHAVES :::Leaf Razor: shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=2138645&u=3382923&m=130203&urllink=&afftrack=

👍Right. Im starting to like it
I think the 6C glides easier due to the smooth chrome finish Vs the matte finish on the 6S. The extra momentum/energy helps with slicing the hair off
And this may be the reason the 6C “feelings” sharper… I was pondering the same thing.

It's definitely a learning process
just a question ,thinking about the 6s ,when I read the bad reviews there is are complaints about rust ? do you have any input on this ?
I can only think that a small few don't clean their razor. I take mine apart, clean it and let it air dry after every shave. I have no signs of wear whatsoever on my 6C. You can pick one up for $50 using my code: Ohio_Shaves

Which Rockwell baseplate do you believe corresponds best to the King C. Gillette Double Edge Safety Razor?
A 3 plate
Nice shave .. for all Rockwell 6c and 6s lovers like my self if you guys want the stand for this razor .. there at ETFY I got mine in white there very nice .. plates in front of your razor ..
👍
What oil are you using here (and/or what is the best oil) - to enable the foam to cling to it
Rockwell makes preshave oil
Best thing is changing aggression based on how my face feels. Typically I use the 3 plate (shave everyday) but I can dial it up or down. Great video as always, keep up the great work
Thanks Craig. Great Razor
Would love to see this kind of comparison review with the Razor Emporium Rhodium Rockwell 6S.
Matt has one up on his youtube Channel
@@OhioShaves Problem is he is always pushing his products so it's hard to see it as a fair review. I thought he was unreasonably harsh on the Pearl Flexi on which he came to a completely different conclusion than SinatraLennon who I tend to agree with. However Matt does have a good business and they are creating interesting products and I like some of them which is why it would be great to see an impartial review on the Rhodium Rockwell 6S.
Just need a Rockwell brush now 🤣
😀
Man I finally got a 6s, went from Viking Meiji. Had no idea a razor could be so different from another. This 6s is a total different beast and I feel cheated using that dam vikings blade. I've never heard the hair being cut before. I hear the hair being cut. Using 7 o'clock.
Very nice upgrade
So....
They're that good
@@OhioShaves Yeah. Think I will get the 6S mate-black. Seems great value specially with full kit with all the cream, balms oil etc.
💯
💈👍
I had the 6S and he wasn`t my favorite - I changed him against a Razorock Gamechanger 0.84 (people call me crazy because of that). I have a 2C which I really like with plate 3.
Now I bought a 6C too.
👍
5:32, I was just about to ask what plate you're using.
👍
I can only compare my blue 6s to my king c gillette which is chrome, as I do not own a 6c. With that said I enjoy the feeling of the 6s on my skin way more than the king c. Glad I went with this one.
Thanks for sharing
Just got the Rockwell 6c and I love more than the Henson!
It's that good. Glad you like it and thanks for sharing and your support😀
I have a 34mm knott brush you oughta try. I may send you one.
Maybe for my head. That's awful big.
Also for your wife's legs. Bet she'd love it.

Thanks for sharing that tip👍
You might want to re-emphasize that a "clean-up" pass can and should be done using a THIN coating of lather, as you show in this video.
Good call. Thank you much
Does your coupon code work in Canada? I tried it and it said not valid.
It should ohio_shaves. They are based out of Canada.
So I got one for you. How bout a comparison between the Rockwell 6S. Start on 4 or 5 then 3 then 1 or 2. Vs Leaf Torn on the first and second pass then Twig on the third. Interesting indeed. It would be fun and informative.
👍Good to here from you Anthony
I have the 6C and 6S. I don’t know if I got a bad 6C or what but I hate the damn thing, shaves totally different than my 6S. Way more aggressive than my S. I honestly think the top cap must be out of spec.
Quality control possibly
