I found your channel a few weeks ago when I started looking into ways to prevent shaving irritation. It's been a tremendous help and I've switched over to DE shaving and I'll never look back. I've already raided the local antique stores and brought home two Gillette slims, and a NOS Brownie (currently using one of the slims). I was just looking for a better way to shave (which I found) but walked away with a bit of a hobby (not sure I should thank you for that lol). Your appreciation of history, engineering, and quality definitely shows in your Rex lineup. Keep up the great work!

After using the Konsul XL for a couple of months, I can say it’s worth the money. You can get a good shave with razors that cost less, but the Rex just feels different. It feels more efficient and smoother. I love the way my face feels after I use my Konsul XL.

I bought the Envoy almost 2 years ago. It is a great shaving razor. I have considered the konsul or the ambassador. They are well built razors and are built to last . However, I have a hard time spending the money knowing I get a fantastic shave from the Envoy I already own.

Ever since discovering the slant razor, it has been a dream. I currently use a Merkur 39C. My skin will razor burn on anything and my beard is very thick and strong. The slant razor was a miracle for me. The Konsul is a dream razor, but the price tag makes it a razor that will likely be forever out of my hands... Unless Razor Emotion wants to give me one out of charity and/or Christmas generosity...I would no be opposed to that... Seriously though, if you doubt a slanted razor, try one. It was a life saver for me.
Agreed. I had a Merkur 37C and loved it. Sadly the quality control issues with Merkur and high price make it a concern for me with them using chrome finishes, known to erode away over time and blade alignment issues meant I didn’t keep it for long but the shaves it gave were supreme. I want a Konsul but the fact is that unless the price changes or life suddenly becomes more affordable or my salary doubles it will likely not be an affordable purchase for me. Huge shame though as the adjustability is a big feature. Sometimes with heavy growth, need an aggressive first pass before dialling it back down.

Wow! Just got this bad boy today and I have to say, I’m more excited after seeing the quality of this piece! Incredible! After holding this thing in my hand, I went and ordered the stand and am now contemplating the Ambassador and envoy, simply from a quality standpoint.
Shaving unrelated, but the CPA in me hopes Rex and Razor Emporium 6:04 are separate entities for legal purposes. And although unlikely to be applicable, 199A might be beneficial to some of the partners. Unlikely though. Love your videos and enthusiasm. Very therapeutic and informative. Cheers!
Oh, Matt, you made a great and very important point about the "settings" or numbers not equating to anything on other razors. I feel that a lot of people get caught up a lot in the equivalence thought process.
I can tell you guys really value the quality for your products. As a male who constantly cuts himself as he shaves, I think I'd make great use out of the safety razor. Lol
Thank you very much for posting this video. When I first saw the "Envoy" I felt I had to learn more about it. This Guide is exactly what I want and need as a customer. Some time ago, my uncle handed down to me a collection of Gillette razors from the 1950s and 1960s. I've come to realize I want something better quality and more modern than the hand-me-downs. I also have a modern long-handled Merkur and I like the weight of that very much. Something about the handle and weight give me confidence. I rarely nick myself when using the Merkur, but do nick myself with the lighter weight Gillettes. So I'm thinking I can get the same or a better experience with one of the razors featured here. Overall, this is an extremely helpful video to me.
I went with the Ambassador (the standard stainless steel version). For me, I like the idea of not having to worry about wearing any plating off over time. I love it ! And since I bought it early 2021, I did not feel the need to look around for any other razor. (Safe for vintage ones that I collect, but not use.) And that is saying a lot.
Great one Matt! Thank you!! I love my Envoy and it has made me put all but my Straight Razors to bed :) Envoy is the best built and shaving razor I've ever had and highly recommend it! The aggressiveness is set just right. I use the Envoy Monday through Friday and my Straight Razors on the weekends. Thank you for making my journey back to wet shaving so great!
I have an early Ambassador with an N4 Date Code that I've been using exclusively since new. I wanted to get another one so I have one always in my travel kit so I bought the Rhodium plated Ambassador with the matching stand. It looks fantastic and I can actually see the red dot clearly on the newer razors. The older ones came with their own "well type" stand that worked pretty well but is not the massive block that the new one is so my old one is perfect for travel. I originally chose Rex because of the heavy knurling on the handle. I got tired of my razors being dented from dropping them. Rex wont't slip or dent and you can dial in the perfect shave.
I own the Ambassador and the Konsul. The ambassador is a little too aggressive for me and is usable for me on settings up to 3. The Konsul is usable at all settings and may be my best razor. Kudos to you Matt for a great product.
My favorite Rex razor is the Envoy. You can buy the XL handle as an add on that goes with the regular size handle. Completely interchangeable. Both handles have that WONDERFUL grip on them. I bought two Envoys and two XL handles to go with. (One regular Envoy razor plus extra handle for each.) I have a Konsul as well but the grip on the Envoy just can not be beat and I discovered the Envoy blade gap is perfect for me, I don't really need the adjustable feature although the Konsul shaves really well. It was the grip on the Envoy handle that had me keep coming back to it.
Received my Rhodium Envoy a few days ago and it has quickly become my favorite over the Rockwell 6s. Great product - I found you from KenSurfs. Look forward to your future videos. Thanks very much Matt!

Although I am very happy with this (and some of my other DE razors) have to admit that I am attempted to get also Konsul, maybe in gold this time …. Awesome video Matt👍👍 I've been waiting on this for some time, don't know why as I have all three razors since they were made available. Beautiful pieces of craftsmanship, enjoy using each one especially the Konsul. The Envoy gets the least use of the three but still is not neglected. Being the Envoy is "fixed" at about #3 on the Ambassador for comparison, it's fairly aggressive for my skin/beard type but manageable for longer times between shaves. Thought about having them all plated and polished but then the collector came out in me and just couldn't do it. Settings for me: Ambassador-2-2.5, Konsul-1-5+... Excellent work, thanks bro. Enjoy!

Awesome video Matt! I own all three of your DE razors & love them, though I’ll say my favourite is the Konsul if I want a luxury shave, followed by the Envoy as a daily driver. What I love about all your razors is the excellent build quality and efficiency, there’s nothing worse than an inefficient razor which requires lots of buffing lol, but my Rex will always give me a close shave. I can also vouch for Rex’s/ RE’s outstanding customer service, you guys are extremely helpful. Even though I live in Europe they’ve been able to support me, offer advice and safety ship their wonderful products to me. If you own a Rex you know how great they are, but if you’re new to the wet shaving world then look no further, a Rex razor will be your perfect shaving companion. Also, I don’t think I was aware of your brushes, it would be great to see you use them in your shaving review videos Matt. As for future products I’d love to see a none adjustable Konsul, the Envoy version of the Konsul and maybe even a single edge injector style razor??? And possibly even a Matt black finish, I see quite a few black razors which I think looks quite cool. What ever the future holds I know you’ll bring us some awesome gear 👍🏼. Matt I was able to purchase a used/like new Rex Ambassador in box with the nice base. I saved $125 (he had too many razors🤦🏻♂️). It’s the machined version, but DUDE.. I LOVE IT! I had my eyes set on the Konsul (still do), but seized the opportunity when I saw it.. “Outstanding job💪🏼”! So yes, still want the Konsul🤷🏼♂️🤣 but keeping the Ambassador! Super glad to own the Ambassador, and would highly recommend Rex🙏🏼
I just started using a cheap Amazon special $10 DE and I love it. I'm just shaving with the beard oil and butter after dressing my beard. Seems to be okay, no burning or scraping. But I know the rest is coming soon: better razor, shaving soap, brush, lather bowl, etc. I can already hear my wife grumbling, though she does like me keeping my beard trimmed better. Really love your videos!
Great video Matt! It makes me want to buy a new razor, hahaha. I have owned an Envoy for a couple years now. I’ve added several high-end razors to my collection over the years and the Envoy remains one of my favorites. It always gives a smooth and efficient shave. I also love the look and feel of the Envoy. There are very few razors out there with this level of precision craftsmanship. Rex is definitely top tier.
Hi Matt. Just visited the shop for the first time today. Such a cool shop with an awesome selection. The girls were great and helped me out. I bought the Konsul XL in brushed stainless steel. You're totally right definitely the best finish. Im coming back to the shop next weekend to buy the Razor Emporium badger brush and Cedarwood Taylor of Old Bond Street. It smelled soo good. So nice to be able to pick everything up and smell all the creams etc. Just can't do that online. It's going to take me a week to decide what color to purchase the brush in lol...both colors are sooo cool. Keep up the great work!
This is an awesome video! Your videos are some of the reasons why I recently moved away from cartridges and into the beautiful world of shaving with a safety razors. I started with an affordable King C Gillette and now I am waiting for a Gillette Slim I bought on Ebay to come in the mail, which I plan to send it over to you guys to have it revamped. I want my next razor to be a Rex, but I am undecided between an Ambassador and a Konsul. I think I will pay a visit to your shop, perhaps being able to see them in person will help me make the decision.
Hey Matt! I purchased a Rex Ambassador last year and love it! Unsurpassed quality in craftsmanship! Maybe an option for the more budget friendly folks would be for these razors to come in a chrome version like Rockwell offers. They have the 6s (stainless steel) and the 6c (chrome). The 6s is obviously way more in price. The 6c offers the same shave experience in a lower cost version. I own both of those versions and actually find the chrome one a bit smoother! Just a thought to ponder for the folks watching their pennies! Thanks as always for your videos!! Can't wait til you try the vintage Trac II and Atra razors!! Have a great week! Jim
Wow such a great video, so much info on each razor. They look Amazing, but some are over $400 in Australia. I would love one, but my wife who handles finance in our home would say No. She would make me give up beer for a month. And with summer coming next week, I need more beers. Once again a nice razor and the pouches are cool.
Matt, I have all the Gillette cartridge Razors from circa 1970 onwards but the Fusion5 is the best I like so far. Also I have 2 Gillette DE razors which is a gold executive 1959 and another a black handle 1969 adjustable both in Mint condition. Thankyou.
my long handle envoy is the most beautifully constructed razor I have. I love my fatboy, and Hensons, and Yates 'Merica... but the Rex long handle is fantastic, I would consider buying a short handle for it. If you're on the fence, take the plunge you wont regret it, expensive sure, but the quality of manufacture is #1
Does your Envoy equal or surpass the Hensons? Do you have more than one Henson, since you used the plural? Which design of the Henson do you have, regular or medium? I did not have a good experience with a travel kit double edge razor. These higher quality brands might be better. Thus, I'm gathering information about these various brands and their popularity.
Fantastic video! The Ambassador is a bucket list razor for me, along with the stand and travel case. But too expensive to justify to the wife lol I’ve thought about going cheap with the Pearl Flexi but I’d much rather support you guys and know I’m getting a fantastic, lifetime product made in the USA. We need to bring manufacturing back to the USA! One day I’ll get a full Rex build, but until then I have these videos to drool over 😊
Check next Friday for a Black Friday sale. I bought my Ambassador last year for 20% off (if I remember correctly - may have been 25%). That's definitely a big cost savings.
IMHO a stainless steel single edge razor is needed in Rex’s line up. I’m talking a version of the Leaf Twig/Thorn, but a two piece razor. Possibly get the innovative mode and go for an adjustable 😊

I'm not a fan of the diamond grip on the konsul, i find it less grippy, but man that thing gives a comfortable close shave.
Purchased an Ambassador a couple of moths ago. Wonderful materials and has become my everyday. BUT not overly impressed with the finishing. My top plate has significant imperfections that I would not have expected from a razor at this price point. Quality control seems to be lacking. To be fair, I haven’t brought this up with the vendor or REX but should I have to?

The Rex razors are, without a shadow of a doubt, some of the classiest and well produced looking razors out there. Unfortunately, there will never be a day when I am in a position to own one. Having said that, with your "no blade-feel" comment, the Konsul would be my choice.
Excellent showcase! Did the Rex team experiment with putting the blade alignment tabs, on the handle side of the plate? I think the user experience could be improved by maintaining your grip on the handle while placing the blade onto the razor, and then placing the head plate onto the blade.
It would increase the product cost. Gillette used the tech style tabs for 40+ years for a good reason. For those who struggle to load, assemble upside down with blade going onto cap first. Thx
I have a very heavy beard and I have yet to find a razor that will give me a clean finish without being tough on my face. I guess I have a tough beard with a sensitive face. It sounds like the adjustable razor would be best for me, perhaps in the konsul model. I’ll have to put that on my wish list.
How much would a safty razer cost with the numbers on it l have a couple of safty razer that cost about 20.00 Dollers real cheap ones but when you are on a disbty check and you don.t get much and you got to save up so hello from st,catharines ont canada
so it's been > 3 weeks since i've gotten the DE shaving fever. i've been shaving with a DE razor but a new fervor started lately with your videos and with a new slant razor, new brush, a new shaving cream (also your REX Barber Shop cream just arrived today) , new 200-pack of blades, & a new balm. i've been going through several vids everyday & i love your vides the most (honestly), but i just now saw this one again & re-discovered your brush. now i have a question. are there knots sold that screw on & off? i don't any replacement knots sold on either of your sites. are replacements to be sold on your site soon? i love the look of a stainless steel brush but how would it work longterm?
Made in USA? Frustrating when companies intentionally hide the fact that they are pushing import garbage. 2:05 answer that lol. That’s what i get for typing while watching. I just bought my first safety razor from Yates because i wanted something made in USA. I’ll definitely be checking out this company in the future.
Will you guys ever make a case for the rex brush? It is so heavy so I'm not sure that a leather brush roll would be able to keep the knot from getting creased in my bag. Would love to see a hard vented travel case for the brush! I currently have an ambassador and the stand. It is the highest quality thing I own. It feels so solid in the hand and gives a very close shave!
Is there also a stand you recommend for the rex brush? I bought the Parker S Razor Brush Stand and the rex brush is a little too heavy for it and falls off the stand even if I barely touch the brush. It says it fits 20-25mm brushes. Do I need one that is specifically just for 24mm brushes?

I originally chose Rex because of the heavy knurling on the handle. I got tired of my razors being dented from dropping them. Rex wont't slip or dent and you can dial in the perfect shave.
I'm not even a DE shaver, I use a straight razor everyday. But I think im going to buy the ambassador. Very nice presentation 👏

I own the Ambassador and the Konsul. The ambassador is a little too aggressive for me and is usable for me on settings up to 3. The Konsul is usable at all settings and may be my best razor. Kudos to you Matt for a great product.

My favorite Rex razor is the Envoy. You can buy the XL handle as an add on that goes with the regular size handle. Completely interchangeable. Both handles have that WONDERFUL grip on them. I bought two Envoys and two XL handles to go with. (One regular Envoy razor plus extra handle for each.) I have a Konsul as well but the grip on the Envoy just can not be beat and I discovered the Envoy blade gap is perfect for me, I don't really need the adjustable feature although the Konsul shaves really well. It was the grip on the Envoy handle that had me keep coming back to it.

Awesome video Matt👍👍 I've been waiting on this for some time, don't know why as I have all three razors since they were made available. Beautiful pieces of craftsmanship, enjoy using each one especially the Konsul. The Envoy gets the least use of the three but still is not neglected. Being the Envoy is "fixed" at about #3 on the Ambassador for comparison, it's fairly aggressive for my skin/beard type but manageable for longer times between shaves. Thought about having them all plated and polished but then the collector came out in me and just couldn't do it. Settings for me: Ambassador-2-2.5, Konsul-1-5+... Excellent work, thanks bro. Enjoy!

Awesome video Matt, liked all the razors. I will be waiting for the slanted Envoy ( or whatever you're going to call it). I think it would be cool if you would make kits that have the razor, the case, and the brush, all in one nice display.

Awesome video Matt! I own all three of your DE razors & love them, though I’ll say my favourite is the Konsul if I want a luxury shave, followed by the Envoy as a daily driver. What I love about all your razors is the excellent build quality and efficiency, there’s nothing worse than an inefficient razor which requires lots of buffing lol, but my Rex will always give me a close shave. I can also vouch for Rex’s/ RE’s outstanding customer service, you guys are extremely helpful. Even though I live in Europe they’ve been able to support me, offer advice and safety ship their wonderful products to me. If you own a Rex you know how great they are, but if you’re new to the wet shaving world then look no further, a Rex razor will be your perfect shaving companion.
Also, I don’t think I was aware of your brushes, it would be great to see you use them in your shaving review videos Matt. As for future products I’d love to see a none adjustable Konsul, the Envoy version of the Konsul and maybe even a single edge injector style razor??? And possibly even a Matt black finish, I see quite a few black razors which I think looks quite cool. What ever the future holds I know you’ll bring us some awesome gear 👍🏼. Matt I was able to purchase a used/like new Rex Ambassador in box with the nice base. I saved $125 (he had too many razors🤦🏻♂️). It’s the machined version, but DUDE.. I LOVE IT! I had my eyes set on the Konsul (still do), but seized the opportunity when I saw it.. “Outstanding job💪🏼”!
So yes, still want the Konsul🤷🏼♂️🤣 but keeping the Ambassador!

I just started using a cheap Amazon special $10 DE and I love it. I'm just shaving with the beard oil and butter after dressing my beard. Seems to be okay, no burning or scraping. But I know the rest is coming soon: better razor, shaving soap, brush, lather bowl, etc. I can already hear my wife grumbling, though she does like me keeping my beard trimmed better. Really love your videos!
Great video Matt! It makes me want to buy a new razor, hahaha. I have owned an Envoy for a couple years now. I’ve added several high-end razors to my collection over the years and the Envoy remains one of my favorites. It always gives a smooth and efficient shave. I also love the look and feel of the Envoy. There are very few razors out there with this level of precision craftsmanship. Rex is definitely top tier.
Hi Matt. Just visited the shop for the first time today. Such a cool shop with an awesome selection. The girls were great and helped me out. I bought the Konsul XL in brushed stainless steel. You're totally right definitely the best finish. Im coming back to the shop next weekend to buy the Razor Emporium badger brush and Cedarwood Taylor of Old Bond Street. It smelled soo good. So nice to be able to pick everything up and smell all the creams etc. Just can't do that online. It's going to take me a week to decide what color to purchase the brush in lol...both colors are sooo cool. Keep up the great work!

This is an awesome video! Your videos are some of the reasons why I recently moved away from cartridges and into the beautiful world of shaving with a safety razors. I started with an affordable King C Gillette and now I am waiting for a Gillette Slim I bought on Ebay to come in the mail, which I plan to send it over to you guys to have it revamped. I want my next razor to be a Rex, but I am undecided between an Ambassador and a Konsul. I think I will pay a visit to your shop, perhaps being able to see them in person will help me make the decision.

Hey Matt! I purchased a Rex Ambassador last year and love it! Unsurpassed quality in craftsmanship! Maybe an option for the more budget friendly folks would be for these razors to come in a chrome version like Rockwell offers. They have the 6s (stainless steel) and the 6c (chrome). The 6s is obviously way more in price. The 6c offers the same shave experience in a lower cost version. I own both of those versions and actually find the chrome one a bit smoother! Just a thought to ponder for the folks watching their pennies! Thanks as always for your videos!! Can't wait til you try the vintage Trac II and Atra razors!! Have a great week! Jim

Wow such a great video, so much info on each razor. They look Amazing, but some are over $400 in Australia. I would love one, but my wife who handles finance in our home would say No. She would make me give up beer for a month. And with summer coming next week, I need more beers. Once again a nice razor and the pouches are cool.

Matt, I have all the Gillette cartridge Razors from circa 1970 onwards but the Fusion5 is the best I like so far. Also I have 2 Gillette DE razors which is a gold executive 1959 and another a black handle 1969 adjustable both in Mint condition. Thankyou.
my long handle envoy is the most beautifully constructed razor I have. I love my fatboy, and Hensons, and Yates 'Merica... but the Rex long handle is fantastic, I would consider buying a short handle for it. If you're on the fence, take the plunge you wont regret it, expensive sure, but the quality of manufacture is #1
Does your Envoy equal or surpass the Hensons? Do you have more than one Henson, since you used the plural? Which design of the Henson do you have, regular or medium? I did not have a good experience with a travel kit double edge razor. These higher quality brands might be better. Thus, I'm gathering information about these various brands and their popularity.
I don't have a REX razor yet, but I have my eye on a few. I think a black or matte black finish would be something really cool to see.

IMHO a stainless steel single edge razor is needed in Rex’s line up. I’m talking a version of the Leaf Twig/Thorn, but a two piece razor. Possibly get the innovative mode and go for an adjustable 😊

Great video. Wife asked what I want for Christmas. I'll just point her to the razor emporium website. Love that brush you got. Hope I get one. I got the konsul and ambassador. Both great razors. I'm not a fan of the diamond grip on the konsul, i find it less grippy, but man that thing gives a comfortable close shave.
Purchased an Ambassador a couple of moths ago. Wonderful materials and has become my everyday. BUT not overly impressed with the finishing. My top plate has significant imperfections that I would not have expected from a razor at this price point. Quality control seems to be lacking. To be fair, I haven’t brought this up with the vendor or REX but should I have to?

The Rex razors are, without a shadow of a doubt, some of the classiest and well produced looking razors out there.
Unfortunately, there will never be a day when I am in a position to own one. Having said that, with your "no blade-feel" comment, the Konsul would be my choice.
Rex is the most North American razor I can think of besides Gillette. It will be mine. Oh yes, It will be mine.

Did the Rex team experiment with putting the blade alignment tabs, on the handle side of the plate?
I think the user experience could be improved by maintaining your grip on the handle while placing the blade onto the razor, and then placing the head plate onto the blade.
It would increase the product cost. Gillette used the tech style tabs for 40+ years for a good reason. For those who struggle to load, assemble upside down with blade going onto cap first. Thx

I have a very heavy beard and I have yet to find a razor that will give me a clean finish without being tough on my face. I guess I have a tough beard with a sensitive face. It sounds like the adjustable razor would be best for me, perhaps in the konsul model. I’ll have to put that on my wish list.
You make some really nice razors. Have you considered offering, and would it be possible to make an open comb version of your razors?

Will you guys ever make a case for the rex brush? It is so heavy so I'm not sure that a leather brush roll would be able to keep the knot from getting creased in my bag.

I currently have an ambassador and the stand. It is the highest quality thing I own. It feels so solid in the hand and gives a very close shave!
Is there also a stand you recommend for the rex brush? I bought the Parker S Razor Brush Stand and the rex brush is a little too heavy for it and falls off the stand even if I barely touch the brush. It says it fits 20-25mm brushes. Do I need one that is specifically just for 24mm brushes?

Try a Parker slant.
Parker / merkur are slants but feel nothing like the Konsul.
