Which is THE BEST DE BLADE?

  • Many have doubts about the best blades available on the market and as many videos on this regard. So here I wanted to go through many I have already used.
    First of all: - Test as many slides as possible. See the one that is most comfortable for you and best for your face. There is no single blade that is best for everyone. You need to understand that the type of shaver, soap, brush, as well as the type of beard and skin influence. Including the beard routines or even the pressure and strength that is used when shaving. In addition, each shaver also has a different angle and aggressiveness.
    I hope I have helped.

    ----- About the channel
    I'm André. My main channel is actually in Portuguese, called Barba Tradicional. But since I do create some content in English sometimes I decided to upload that also here.
    Many people have sensitive skin and/or suffer from ingrown hairs, irritation or have difficulty shaving difficult areas. Since 2017 I have retired the multi-blade cartridge and electric shavers, switching to traditional shaving. The results are astounding! Of course, it requires learning some tricks and tricks, after all it's easier to cut yourself (it's more efficient!). But it's worth a try! Here I help answer some questions and how to have a barbershop-worthy shave: How to shave? How to avoid irritation and ingrown hair? What is the best shaver? How to shave with a razor? How to choose the shaver? What care and attention when shaving?
    I hope that with the tips on this channel you will have a shave without irritation or ingrown hairs. Above all it is a cheaper and more sustainable way to shave!

    Several months into wet shaving, I decided to try a sample pack of blades based on what I had learned from various shaving channels. To eliminate one variable, I only shaved with my favorite DE safety razor, the Rockwell 6S. After trying all the blades, my favorites narrowed down to Nacet, Astra Green, and Wilkinson Sword (India). IMO, what makes one razor blade "better" than another is skin and hair type, assuming we all do proper prep and use quality products. I do agree that there is no such thing as a "best" blade. Some just perform better than others.

    so interesting how varying everyones usage is with certain blades. my absolute favorite blade i never even see on peoples list. parker premium platinum is my go to razor blade. it gives me the closest yet most comfortable shave ever. feather is a tad harsh for me, still use them but definitely more harsh. parker is so incredibly smooth and just delivers a fantastic shave every time.
    in fact, tonight when i shaved with my parker blade it was such a good shave i just stopped after two passes, didnt even need a third. my goodness its a marvelous razor blade i absolutely love it. very reasonably priced as well i think $12 for 100?

    In barbershops they use only one blades per person , and most of the times all blades are doing well for one use , but personal use , we are looking for number of usage , the longer stays sharp the better it saves , then there is personal preferences.

    Great discussion on best blades. Like you said I find blades are the most YMMV part of shaving. My favorite blades are Wizamet Iridium (very similar to Polsilver), Nacet, Rapira Lux, Dorco Prime and Gillette Winner Platinum (India), there many other "also ran" blades that shave well and bottom of my list are Rockwell, Merkur, Parker, German&Chinese Wilks and Perma-Sharp (surprise?)...👍🤠

    Been wet shaving for decades...Here's my opinion. If you use a closed comb razor, Permasharp, Bolzano, Astra SP are great. If you use an OC razor,a cheap mild blade like Dorco's, Derby and etc work just fine. Feather's or a Kai are expensive and very sharp. One wrong move and your cut. I only recommend them if your experienced. Also be careful going against the grain on your neck since that may cause razor burn, irritation and blemishes.

    Good video: Astra's are excellent with the right technique, and so are Wilkinson Sword India & China (surprisingly). The Astra's are really consistent (at least 3 shaves). The Wilki's can sometimes drag, but just adjust technique. Kensurf's likes them, and they are excellent alright. The only blades I really don't like are Feather...not smooth, and too pricey. Thanks for the video!
    I don't know, they all do the same job, basically. That's been my experience, and I've been using a Double Edge safety Razor since 1982. Some blades last longer, some are thinner, some are more expensive, but I find that prepping your stubble and practicing your technique are far more important than the blade itself. The blades I have been using in recent times are the Japanese made Feather Brand stainless and the Gillette Platinum Blades. They seem to work well with my light stubble and couple nicely with any number of my safety razors. They are easy to source and are cost effective. The Feathers might cost a little more, but way less than the modern style shavers of today, which are sub-par at best. Since no one's face and beard is the same, and if you're just starting out, get a few easily available sample packs and see what works for you. Happy Shaving!!

    I have a Rex Konsul and the Wilkinson Sword is the best in that I've found. Closely followed by Permasharp, Personna, Accuforge and Rockwell. The Kai and Feather are a bit too sharp; I can get nicks and cuts even with the Konsul dialed all the way down. The Astra is a little dull, not bad but not the greatest; It's probably a great blade for a Yates Razor. The Bolzano is very dull; barely sufficient to shave. Maybe good for shaving arm hair over a tattoo or something. The Kent of Inglewood (their in-house blade) and Parker's are the worst I ever tried; I've actually taken them out after a few shave strokes because they were just so dull. I somehow managed to get an ingrown hair with the Parker.

I do have a review of that on my main channel in Portuguese th-cam.com/video/fCgOeJI1Dx4/w-d-xo.html but in short, I did not like how it lathers... it doesn't lather actually. There are better options in my opinion than this even the cheap supermarket ones like Bozzano. I also recently made one video on Jelly Roll Grease... they also have a sandalwood cream. th-cam.com/video/Jn4rZ-BqCu4/w-d-xo.html

    my unpopular opinion is that blades in razors are like batteries in remotes. it doesn’t matter unless they’re flat/blunt. it’s the razor & the shavers technique that make up most of the shaves performance. your father, grandfather, great grandfather etc. all shaved with whatever blade they could get their hands on. they didn’t have the luxury of ordering 30 brands world wide for optimal performance in their $200 titanium razor. don’t be a drama queen. just perfect your technique. that’s what’s most important

    • @MakesCents.02
      @MakesCents.02 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Technique is huge, but I had to find the right combo for me to at least not get razor burn. Decades ago, maybe I would've just had to suffer.

    • @bunjier4041
      @bunjier4041 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      That is an unpopular opinion definitely. This is kind of a boomer mindset though, there are different blade sharpnesses, coatings, etc. that are scientifically measurable and have been measured. That means that yes, blades are different, and different blades are suitable for different men. For example, men with thick and coarse beards need something that is sharp and durable. Men with light or sparse beards can get away with duller blades they benefit from using to lessen the chances of nicks and irritation. Technique is indeed king, but your argument is provably wrong.

    • @Neuroanalisis
      @Neuroanalisis 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I used to think the same when I was starting out. But I think the blade is one of the most Important factors in getting a great shave. Dorco, kai, wilkinson swords, derby, all guilletes except the made in usa personnas. If I use any of those it feels like I'm scrapping my skin, irritation is horrible and I cut myself no matter how careful I am. I get excellent shaves with feather, guillete personnas made in usa and astras.

    • @florianmeier3186
      @florianmeier3186 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree, also focus, indulgence and good preparation and training helps. I used a razor in the beginning and messed Up completly: cuts and burning skin. Recently, I tried it again with the same setup and no issues at all. However, there is hardware which is little more forgiving and why not use it if it is easy to access? I like BIC and personna as they are easy to access here and I have some sympathy for the countries, but other stuff is fine, too.

    • @THEKMT6
      @THEKMT6 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Unpopular for sure, and is totally against my experience. I used a single edge (cut thrø@T) for several years which in my experience requires more skill than a double edge. With both types of razors the quality and the sharpness of the blade makes a huge difference.

    In these Inflationary Times. HERE IS AN EASY WAY TO DO IT MY FRIENDs Use any hard Bar Soap, Tallow or Glycerin based Soaps out there? To fit in any Mugs or Cups? Like" (Mitchells' Wool Fat or Arko Sticks. Just to name a few of them?) You can mix and match your old Soaps? Cut up the soap on a paper plate, pour your soap chunks with the shavings from the Paper Plate into a Mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, and microwave your soap. For about a minute or so? Place a paper plate under your mug in case it bubbles out of your cup? If it foams up, STOP. The water keeps it from burning itself up. (DON'T OVER WATER YOUR SOAP??) Easy, does it? Let cool don't want to Crack the Mugs or Cups you're using? (You just want it to Congeal in your Mug or Cup') it is very hot and watery'''''. let it cool in . PLACE'. after it cools, put it in a Sunny Window, until the Soap hardens? When using your soaps, use Dry Brush Less Water. It thickens the soap, making it easier to use on your face. Save your Money, spend it on your wife, don't listen to the shave Mafia. It saves me time and Money. Happy New Year. Your Mileage may vary? Wheelchair Larry

    ... The irony that for 99.99999% of users, they would get an infinitely better shaving experience and end result with a multiple blade cartridge razor than they would with literally any of these products... I understand that it's a fun kind of hobby or whatever but unless you've had a lot of practice with one of the style of razors and you really do a lot of prep work to your skin ahead of time you're gonna have an awful experience with a lot of irritation and probably not a very good shave without a bunch of nicks and cuts.... If you're not smart enough to figure out how to get cartridge razors from Walmart for like a dollar for a pack, I really don't know what to tell you🤣
