There's always hidden gem goalie youtubers that FINALLY come across the recommended section (: you take tons of time and are very wholesome, please continue posting goalie lifestyle!
I have used Padskins recently then I came across this video and tried plasti dip on an old blocker. I can tell you Plasti Dip is WAY better. Looks more professional and much easier to apply. A few tips to add to this video. 1. You can cover the rest of your blocker or glove with a kitchen garbage bag to prevent leakage on other parts. 2. When peeling off the tape after last application, use an exacto knife to get extremely clean lines. I rushed through the old blocker and it came out amazing.
I commented a while back on trying this method. It works really well! haven't even had to touch anything up. I highly recommend this method to people who wanna color their pads
When your pad gets those wear holes in them near where they contact the ice, don't use superglue. Use Tent sealer glue. It bonds to the surface and makes a water proof seal that also slides well enough. If you don't like it on there, it can be peeled off and removed with friction. The superglue, like you state, soaks into the Jenpro. No Beuno.
$5-$10 I bought mine on amazon and awarehousefull.com I think. Menards has a good can selection as well. www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=plastidip+blue&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aplastidip+blue
Wish I thought of this when I was cleaning up my old Vaughns.. Used a spray on leather / upholstery paint for touching up worn spots .. Only lasted a couple skates
More cost effective...yes absolutely. As clean looking, as effective for sliding surfaces, as durable? Not at all. I also want to point out that your "it leaves residue" comment to another reply is true, but that residue is easily removed by using the "re-tack" method, where you re-tack and pull off multiple times the padskin on the residue and it all comes off. That said, to each his own. If you don't want to shell out the cash for Padskinz, I'd personally rather go with colored duck tape.
Just tried this method on my old vaughns. Hoping for the best but it seems to hold up well Thanks you for this video.. I've tried padskinz and didn't like it at all.
Any recommendations for removing the plasti dip? I just acquired an all black set of Vaughn's, and the previous owner plasti dipped a few lines. I would love to restore the set to all black.
Quite a while. I have a new (to me) set now Vaughn V7s did red accents (new team) and it has lasted 2 seasons. I play 2-3 times most weeks all year. I just had one part start to peel off. I was going to do some touch ups here soon.
Hey I had a question, do you think it would be possible to use plastidip on the entire pad , like for painting it in black, because I don't know if it would stick long on surface that are in contact with the ice.
It would be possible, and may hold up well. It usually wears and pull around the edges, but if there is no edge, it may hold well. In any case if an area starts to pull, just put some thinner on it and re attach, maybe spray some more in that area as well. I'd worry most about the sliding surface... it may work great, or not well at all. After all a puck is rubber and slides well.
looks good. ever tried leather dye? i painted mine with it and it came out pretty good. the goof-up can be overpainted with tyre pen. i can send you some pics if you want
i dont think so. as for now i got pretty hard shots on the painted section and it is still there. that's the only "bad" thinkg about painting. i used some nail polisher for some corrections but it is a mess
Donny Dougherty / ToonTown Stan not very? Shin guards over? Do you mean under? Na, I've taken pretty good.slapahots and these new foam pads you don't feel much. The old deer hair ones from when I was a kid, yeah taking slapshots sucks.
Wow a hidden gem =) I haven't seen the update after the season. Would you still recommend doing the coloring with plastidip? I have a padcoloring project coming up and this looks very promising Thanks!
Florian Bohren I did an update video, they’ve held up pretty well. These are my backup set now, but I’d spray them again. Best thing to do is to do many thin coats. Heavy coat can dry bubbly.
He probably just had someone give them to him or something, so he doesn't know how much they really cost. Goalie equipment is not something you can replace on a whim.
Den Sevostyanov pad skinz would be $40 a roll for each color, plus it still peels off then leaves a nasty residue. Plastidip was $5-10/ can and peels off clean .

Goalie lifestyle? It's mostly drying out gear.

Good tips there, I was worried about cutting into the material below, but all you really need is a score line.

Commenting again on this a year later and I still haven’t had to do any touch ups. It works really well. Better then padskinz.
why am I watching this I'm not even a goalie 😂😂
Jaeger Hahn me either
Jaeger Hahn why??
hockeylaxboy 16 I am

Can you post the type of tent sealer glue you use?
Really nice result! How much does is cost for a can of this stuff?

If a puck comes on it what happends whit the Color that were there before and sorry for my english
It stays, at the end of the video I have an update. I'll do an end of season update here soon as well.
Is plasti dipping better than pad wrapping? Which last longer?

Joey Villeneuve sliding surfacses you’re absolutely right.

Did it work out well? Am thinking about doing this.
It’s been a year and I haven’t had to do any touch ups. I’d highly recommend this as a cheap way to change your pad colors.
Any recommendations for removing the plasti dip? I just acquired an all black set of Vaughn's, and the previous owner plasti dipped a few lines. I would love to restore the set to all black.
Peel off what you can and then a tooth brush and some wd40 or paint thinner should get it from the stitching.
@@therealneoneddy thanks. You mentioned xylene. Will that work with the Genpro, without damaging it?
@@irvingfive7955 it never caused problems for me, but check in a small spot first.
How long did this last for you? I tried it and most of it came off right away

@@therealneoneddy do you have any more tips on getting it to stay on longer?
Would this work on the nylon on the outside of the pad or would cloth paint be better for that?
You could try, it’s never coming off though .

Maximilian Klotz does it come off? I like to switch it up and if I switch teams or play in a summer league I can better match.
i dont think so. as for now i got pretty hard shots on the painted section and it is still there. that's the only "bad" thinkg about painting. i used some nail polisher for some corrections but it is a mess
Looks pretty sick
they look awesome
2 questions for you. How heavy are the goalie pads and do you were shin guards over them?
Donny Dougherty / ToonTown Stan not very? Shin guards over? Do you mean under? Na, I've taken pretty good.slapahots and these new foam pads you don't feel much. The old deer hair ones from when I was a kid, yeah taking slapshots sucks.
therealneoneddy So you don't wear shin guards under the pads.
Donny Dougherty / ToonTown Stan why would we wear them
Krieg The Psycho I'm just asking.
Would it work if I wanted my entire pads black? Would you just spray/paint without the tape?
awesome job. great video!
how did it hold up against pucks?
Usmahn Shah end of the video there is an update on how it's holding up. Still using them now.
Wow a hidden gem =)

@@therealneoneddy Great, Will definitely go that route! Thanks!
So its dont get off if puck hit it?
How did you apply the plasti dip?
How is it holding up on the sections you stencilled off yourself
Jack Woods pretty well actually better than other areas because there is no edge to wear on. I'll do an end of season update as well.
Next time try using Mr. Clean magic erasers prior to painting...It gets rid of puck marks ....where can we get Plastidip in Canada?
Greg Magri puck marks don't bother me.
I'm not sure in Canada, try automotive stores and hardware stores, or Amazon. I had to order my yellow online.
looks good!
What about Deck hockey? The surface of the floor is rough!
Give it a try, you're out the $7 of spray can.
What are you using spray paint or. What
Lawrence Welsh plastidip, it’s a rubberized coating that peels off when you want it to, but not when you don’t.
Lol I just went to a camp but I do have respect for those sweet colours and
Shut up
Decent!
have you tried on the outer nylon? Cant get Padwrap to stay.
Kelly DOrtona it would work but it would never come off. The plastidip would soak into the fabrics.
What spray do you use?
Lucas Warren Olsson just normal plastidip from performix
therealneoneddy okay thanks
You'll get a much cleaner lines using masking tape for painting a car with some tape and drape
Also best to peel the tape right after your last coat. You can spray Xylene on bad spots to smooth them out
how about the helmet/mask?
Sam Powell I used automotive vinyl for that, it's shiny and stretchy. Maybe I'll do a video on that as well.
Good call. I have a friend that does decal work that has apparently done this for a few goalies. Just texted him, he said it turns out great.
Nice Dawg
I got Bauer supreme 1s
like your video
wise guy 👍 keep your money in your pocket
Damn looks like they stopped making yellow plasti dip spray 🥲
In my area it was Menards and pep boys that had the best selection of colors.
Try magic eraser works Good for puck marks
Anyone see the ant on his goalie pads at 3:12
Xylene is pronounced Zilean
Just get sponsored then it doesn't cost to much
Rocky Hockey sweet , where do I send in my beer league game film?
:D:D
Billy The Bass Assassin I seen you comment on another goalie channel I can't remember what tho
+josh Purjue yup sounds about right
It looks like crap on the thumb nail
I've been thinking the same, but if anyone asks, I updated it just for you.
You need new pads
Van dayton you buying?
@@therealneoneddy kids parents can buy me a set too 😂
I'm a GOALIE
Or u can just get a new set up
Rocky Hockey Do you realize how expensive goalie equipment is

not really
+ben Cunningham You just broke the first rule bud..
27suzukirider can't call me dumb I'm the one with good gear
That is not how you are supposed
To treat you're gear just get this thing called padskinz
Den Sevostyanov pad skinz would be $40 a roll for each color, plus it still peels off then leaves a nasty residue.
Plastidip was $5-10/ can and peels off clean .
get new pads
Give him the money rich boy.
