+Mat Lunnen are you the goalie in the video? I would love to pick your brain on that Lat theory which I replied to Paul with. I'm sending this video over to my coach for assessment too and a trainer (I'm just a beer leaguer at this point in my life, but yes, I still have a coach whom I met at a camp and an online trainer). He will likely want to pick your brain further.
I have to laugh about the talk of the best pads. I started playing net 50 years ago! The pads back then were like lead weights and don't even ask what they were like outdoors in the spring and wet. There is no one best pad on the market! Period! The best pad is the one that you feel the most comfortable with and it will be different for every one. I currently wear an older pair of Bauer R8X Limited Edition 37"+1". There are my first pads designed for a butterfly and that are not leather. They are a huge switch. I went from wearing varying sizes of leather pads. MY last were 32". So I had to transition from a small pad, to playing a butterfly and still wanting to stack the pads! So really, if anyone tells you one pad is better than an other, try a bunch on. Move in them, then decide what is best for you!
+Paul Versteeg I second this. My bottom strap is the only one which actually has any tension on it (aside from the toe). I have found it absolutely critical to controlling pad rotation and butterfly drop speed. Pads = Simmons 586 More interesting, your video looks like it caught something I at least never knew about. Lets assume your goalie has a great butterfly. I've been told to drive the butterfly with the hips. It actually looks like he is driving his butterfly at the lats/mid back which seems to stabilize the hips for a good drive down. I will be playing with this theory tonight because I struggle with crispy clean butterfly drops.
I wouldn't recommend trying to play like that. It puts a hickup into the motion (which is apparent if you look at the time between him preparing to drop and actually starting the drop).
that artificial ice isn't the best thing to be testing on. it'a at least twice as hard to move and slide on. I'ts great for training though. Didn't see them testing any Warrior. Easily the best gear out there right now, especially when talking weight and speed.
just so you know every aspect of goalie gear has been steadily decreasing in size for over 10 years now. you can say it's still too big and that can be an opinion you are welcome to but to say "Its getting to big" is completely false

I had an amazing time participating in this study, thanks to Ryan, Western University, and CCM/Reebok for the amazing experience.

Mat Lunnen no
I am shocked that Vaughn didn't get involved since they are in the same town...
What brand of synthetic ice is that, and how do
I get it? My on ice time is really limited! That could really help.
Western University, get in touch with us at Rollerfly for some help on sliding. We'd be interested in helping out future studies
Thank you for not actually providing any info or findings in your video...
These are some damn good pads I'm loving them. You did good.

Am I blind or did they not say which ones are important and not important??
I'm a goalie I thing the bottom straps are important

It’s all about personal preference
Brick Wall Personal preference is just what your used to, not necessarily what's best
I wouldn't recommend trying to play like that. It puts a hickup into the motion (which is apparent if you look at the time between him preparing to drop and actually starting the drop).
Paul Versteeg Same with me always
I didn’t get any information from this to help hips
Is there somewhere I can find a written account of the study?

Gee Smack Joey Pads the Bauer Odin 1s is lighter and faster
Matthew Gordon wrongest person in wrong town.
Gee Smack Joey Pads wheres wrong town
Right now purely on weight Brian's is the best the Gn3tik pro 3's and Subzero pro 3's are insanely light.
So....Which pads are better and how are you strapping them?
I'm a young goalie going to prep school and scraping your pads is a personal opinion I start tight on the bottom and get lighter as I'm going up
i feel like doing that on the fake ice and with no uppers would mess with the data
is the tester lefty
the goalies stick is wrong
+Ben Mariano Doesn't really matter for a butterfly trial - they prolly just picked up a full right on the cheap.
poopy
Its devan dubnyk... but you can criticize him not like he is a future hall of famer
Liquid Snake zggbbbbdfghhgkhgggfdddddsssis8
Stop yall he rigth
Yea Colorado does have more hip injurys because we ain't a high pay team

your stupid
You can't spell two words correctly, so you're definitely stupid. His point is valid.
@@4tracim you're
That guy Ryan Frayne is my uncle
I like it the goalie is a south pow
I prefer warrior
1:05 couldn’t help but to notice he is holding the stick backwards
Aka just get Brian's pads jeez lol
Its personal preference buddy
What is the London knights? Does he mean golden Knights?
London Knights are a major junior team in the Ontario Junior Hockey League

This is cringe
Try putting the pads on the proper leg. The black strip of padding should be on the outside to hug the post.
+Curt Eckhardt The pads are on the correct legs, the black strap is probably to allow him to slide on the synthetic ice better.
Yea lol those pads are on the right legs.
Bauer is better
lol
Ewww CCM for the win
I don't know them Bauer Supreme 2S pads are prettyyyyyy hard to beat.
How bout the Bauer OD1N 2S ST
@@Kxller44 that sounds like a knockoff car brand lmao
Lol maybe put the pads on the right legs and try it again
Lol maybe watch the video again and pay attention this time...
Lowering goalie pad weight while not reducing their inflated pad sizing....goalie pads are getting stupid big.
actually these pads are very heavy, heavier than last years model by at least half a poun
monco123 I use the premier 1.9's, 35+2 and it's ridiculously big but I love it
monco123 You do know that they have been reducing the size of the equipment since 2005 right?
