In this clip, AJ Johnson opened up about working on "Baby Boy," and she recalled things getting tense between Omar Gooding and Ving Rhames during rehearsal. Speaking more about Ving, AJ revealed that his cooking scene in the movie was ad-libbed, adding that both she and Tyrese were shocked when they saw him. She then added that her tense moment with Tyrese's character in the movie was also ad-libbed. To hear more, including AJ speaking about the role being one of the most challenging of her career, hit the above clip.

Omar Gooding's character doesn't get enough credit lol. The part where he was aggressive selling that 1 dress Jody gave him gets me every time lol. He is such a talented actor and highly underrated
Yea I think that Omar is a victim of all those family productions he did as a younger man. Unfortunately people focus on that sometimes and miss what a talented guy he really is.

What John Singleton did with directing Baby Boy was pure genius and pure art. Plus, the storytelling was topnotch. Everything was strategically placed. And the acting was excellently orchestrated

Right before Jody and Melvin fight, there is a scene where Jody is confronting her about Melvin. The look she gave him is like she wants to punch him in the face FOR REAL like she was actually mad as a person and not as the character. Her skills are impeccable.
When she cried in Baby Boy I felt that pain. 💯

The best you can do is plant yourself a nice little garden at your corner of the world and watch it grow. That was coming from A.J.'s HEART. I saw her in a whole new light as an actress after that.

Not so much fight but I wish they at least had more scenes together or interacted with each other a bit more. Sweet Pea always came off as what Melvin was like 20 years prior to the movie or before he was locked up. Seems like a missed opportunity.

For a movie that so unintentionally funny, the actors took their jobs serious asf. I might need to watch Baby Boy (not on BET, the uncensored one.. ima still laugh at it on BET regardless) again but sober to really appreciate the hard work they put into it.
