Yes, it was a 5/16 drill bit, but I was also drilling at an angle, and had to bore out the hole a little bit to eventually make the hole vertical. I do not have a right angle drill, and I did not want to take the front off, but it ended up working just fine!

I assume when the switch is turned off(middle setting), the regular back up camera still function as normal?
Yep! Middle setting is standard mode where rear camera is triggered by reverse drive.
