What about a diorama of a rusted out tank next to a garishly bright childs playground, the children can play on the swings next to a monument to human suffering and death. I personally think it would be an awesome diorama, if one could pull it off that is.
The final result is astonishing. The diorama gives great emphasis on the tank and its size. While T29 and T30 may not be the most appreciated tanks, they're beautiful. Congratulations for this whole journey :)
If the US army did adopt the T29 and T30, it would be called Heavy tank M29 and Heavy tank M30. What general names that these tanks would use, i have no idea but it's an interesting what if scenario
@@darnit1944 actually there was an idea of the army adopting atleast the t29. and was promptly thrown out. the whole t series of heavies tanks were test beds to see the downsides of mounting an extremely large gun (mind you the largest gun mounted in a turreted tank at the time was either a 105 howitzer in the m4a3e2 assault sherman, or the 90mm gun on the jackson.) if there was a proposal for adopting a heavy tank its likely the e2 would be taking that place and them just ordering more than the 200 they already had. because to be frank the lightest of the t series of heavies, the t29, was already to heavy for all but 1 port in all of europe. meaning they would need to be shipped from the US (likely on the east coast) and have a one way trip to france where a well known and well used port could pick them up. then you got transporting them to the front, which would solely be by train seeing the army tank transporter best lifter couldnt even carry one seeing it weighed 20+ tons over its max. and the germans know trying to move heavy tanks without transporters isnt fun. hell the germans took a already in use half track, and convereted into a tank transporter, solely because all of their heavy tanks couldnt use any of their own tank transporters. and the germans had beastly ones at that.
t-29 height its 10 ft 6 in (3.20 m) and a barn like that can be between 22 and 29 ft (7-9m) and here you can see the tank it's almost as tall as the barn and the soldier is taller than the barn doors so it really doesnt show how big the tank is because proportions are not correct, dont get me wrong, the modeling and painting its impressive but if he do all that hard work to make a very realistic diorama he should take an extra step to get a more accurate scale
After a 40+ year break from building models I began again a few months ago, and while I’ve done a few bases for them, they have been of a limited scale, so I am finding this series to be extremely helpful as I want to step up my game, and really didn’t know where to start...things have changed a lot in 40 years!

Awesome job! There's a trick I've used in the past to ad simulated weight to something like a tank. Make the ground under the treads somewhat uneven and ad a couple lengths of fishing line to the underside of the tank. Run the line through the diorama and pull the tank down. The wheels on the treads will articulate over the uneven ground as if the weight of the tank was real.
Being a person who loves tanks and history. I fell in love watching this. Only real criticism I have though is that with the positioning of the tank and turret it looks like it is preparing for or in combat. In which case the infantry would never be standing in front of it, they'd be standing off to the side of the tank and the loader wouldn't be out of the hatch. If they were at a resting position the cannon would be facing forward so all of its frontal armor is at use and the 2 12.7mm coaxial mounted guns could handle enemy infantry. Due to turret traverse speeds being so slow during this era it was very rare for the turret to be offset from the hull unless engaged in combat.
I didn’t get to watch them all on the same day, but it was a banner Friday for me to save 3 videos that would begin: “Shut up compressor” “What’s up gangsters?” and of course “Man frens”
Every time I see your thumb nails on your videos I think it is a actual battle scene and it takes me a few seconds of looking at it to realize it is a model. Amazing work, keep it up.

This tank position is interesting in that this was the exact same position that was encountered during the invasion of Sicilia by airborne troops in WWII. The airborne troops were 38 men and one 105 howitzer. The Germans brought up a tank, positioned as such and the airborne troops held their fire. The tank peeked around the corner and the 105 in defilade, at close range, shot the tank between the drive sprocket and first road wheel, destroying it. Surprisingly, the airborne troops advanced on the tank only to find the German tank crew standing along side of the tank talking and smoking cigarettes. The Germans were captured and taking to the rear.
I have been watching huge amounts of your videos in the past months, and I want to say that I love your way of storytelling and - of course - the results of your endeavours. You make it look so easy, and I have loads of facepalm moments where I am embarassed that I was not able to come up with the techniques you show myself. I love it. I totally get that tanks are your thing, but I would really like to see you tackle a tractor or something not-war-related. I would assume that even your first attempt at some post-apocalyptic utility vehicle (or something along those lines) would be stunning. It would offer a chance to go all out with customising, scratch building, painting, and story telling. Keep it up mah friend!
You can make a really good acrylic wash that won't bead up on the surface by mixing acrylic ink, matte medium and a few drops of flow aid. That way you don't need to mess with paint thinners.

Very nice result. Oils are very useful for just the reasons you listed. Nothing can be blended like oil paints. That's why they have survived for literally centuries.
"Uh oh, I did too much grass!" Yes, having too much grass is indeed quite a problem Mr. Night Shift. Though, some would say they don't have enough grass! ;D
Trick + Technique = Tricknique! 😬 (one idea/suggestion - either add a wet effect on the top half of the barrel to suggest standing water, or a rough removal of the top of it with a 3/4 full barrel of gross water - a very common site on farms, utility water; and a good tie-in with that white bucket). Loved this series, great job!

Add brown grout to your mud mix to make it stronger. Also if you swap the PVA glue for matt medium it removes the shiny patchy finish the PVA gives so the soil can be used unpainted.
Good stuff, as always. It's interesting how the body language of the three figures really comes together to suggest a scene. The tank crew don't seem very pleased about whatever GI Joe is telling them.
“Technical Difficulties” 😂 A quick tip from an automotive airbrusher. All ways leave the air on and just rock the trigger back for paint. This stops the occasional splatter. Great job.
This is absolutely amazing it looks like somebody froze a scene from real life and shrank it I can't believe it can't help but wonder how a ww1 tank and trenches would look made to this high of specification keep up the fantastic work look forward to the next model

Hey uncle night shift, how do you feel about making a scenic base involving water? Something like a river crossing or something 🤔 Anyway, love the content! Your videos are always a pleasure to watch.
Pretty good work on the figure, especially considering you are new to them. The uniform weathering needs a little adjustment. From my time in the US Army, the locations that got dirtiest were the butt, knees, elbows, and front of the upper thighs (because that's where everyone wipes their dirty hands to clean them). Only if conditions were particularly muddy would there be 'spray' and flecks of dirt/mud on the back of the legs or higher than mid-boot. Vehicle crewmen uniforms display different colors and patterns of stains than infantry, such as oil stains around the shirt sleeve cuffs and generally more on front of the clothing than the back.
Very nice finished result. As always I enjoyed all of the videos and I’m waiting to see what’s up next week. Now that I’m leaving home I’ll get into figure painting and I’ll use your figure painting videos as a way to make mine decent, hopefully. Tanks for sharing your awesome job.
I don't usually comment but this is just outstanding, in my humble opinion your best work yet. It's both inspiring and depressing because i know I'll never reach this standard
I've seen quite a few modelers on YT and can safely say you're the master. I don't care what you say... unless you show me otherwise you're the pinnacle.
I'm more of a Warhammer (both fantasy and sci fi) guy, but this stuff is really interesting to learn how to make more realistic bases and weathering effects.
T29 needs more Commander hatch .50 cal. But for real, thats pretty awesome. I did make a what if kinda campaign in the RTS Men of War and a US based mission using the T29, where I later switched it for an M103. Had a mission where the M103 was out in Germany for its first field trials in like 1945 and had to push across a map and clear out some Germans in the area.
Very late, but while I don't make dioramas myself (wish I did though) a trick of some of the other creators I watch is to add some sort of light powder (Boulder Creek Railroad uses tile grout) to the dirt mixture before applying it so that it doesn't get too dark. That would probably at least save you the pain of having to paint over the entire dirt layer!
you should have lined the track prints across the whole road like if the tank had gone behind the barn then continued down the road to range the distance that the turret is looking at then gone back behind the barn to take up the shooting position. still a great model, love your work!

Too much grass in your pocket can be a huge problem, especially if you get caught!

I'm just getting started with the techniques, but oil washes and enamel panel liner have some great applications on minis.

Pretty good work on the figure, especially considering you are new to them. The uniform weathering needs a little adjustment. From my time in the US Army, the locations that got dirtiest were the butt, knees, elbows, and front of the upper thighs (because that's where everyone wipes their dirty hands to clean them). Only if conditions were particularly muddy would there be 'spray' and flecks of dirt/mud on the back of the legs or higher than mid-boot. Vehicle crewmen uniforms display different colors and patterns of stains than infantry, such as oil stains around the shirt sleeve cuffs and generally more on front of the clothing than the back.
So realistic with the static grass. Awesome

Tipp ! use screw clamps and 2 pieces of wooden boards. So no holes are in the balsa. spare much time to glue the balsa on the styro.
I've seen quite a few modelers on YT and can safely say you're the master. I don't care what you say... unless you show me otherwise you're the pinnacle.
The tank might not be one of the most popular but if your a tank person then it's one of the coolest ever made.

T29 needs more Commander hatch .50 cal. But for real, thats pretty awesome.
I did make a what if kinda campaign in the RTS Men of War and a US based mission using the T29, where I later switched it for an M103. Had a mission where the M103 was out in Germany for its first field trials in like 1945 and had to push across a map and clear out some Germans in the area.
So I've really gotten into Diorama Creations recently. But this channel is the first to oddly inspire me. Time to do Minecraft War Dioramas!

Very late, but while I don't make dioramas myself (wish I did though) a trick of some of the other creators I watch is to add some sort of light powder (Boulder Creek Railroad uses tile grout) to the dirt mixture before applying it so that it doesn't get too dark. That would probably at least save you the pain of having to paint over the entire dirt layer!
There were so many times during this video where i was like "it's done, right?" but no, it only got better

you should have lined the track prints across the whole road like if the tank had gone behind the barn then continued down the road to range the distance that the turret is looking at then gone back behind the barn to take up the shooting position. still a great model, love your work!
