The Biggest Diorama I've Ever Built! Watermill in 1/35 Scale

  • My friends, sometimes you design a diorama around the model, and sometimes you choose a model for the diorama. This was the latter case because a truck loaded with sacks of flour sounded perfect for a large diorama with a water mill. This is definitely the most complex diorama I've done so far, featuring pretty much every texture you can imagine - bricks, rocks, old wood, grass, dry ground, a cobblestone road, figures, and let's not forget the creek made from epoxy resin!

    Disclaimer: I have a good relationship with a handful of modelling brands and stores, namely VMS, Michigan Toy Soldier Company, and AK-Interactive. As such, I'm happy to use their products/services, and show them in my work. In return, they support my efforts in this hobby, although my hands are not bound nor am I obligated to push one brand or the other. This was one of the founding ideas of the channel and I will always stand by this.

      Yes. At least three other modelers have mentioned that they either are doing something they saw Uncle doing or are trying not to do something they saw him do in just the last week.
      Gotta say that one thing I really like about him is his willingness to not just step but leap out of his comfort zone. Here he is doing figures like he’s been doing it his whole life, building things that aren’t tanks, and building dioramas. Yes Uncle, some of us remember when you said you’d never build a diorama.

    • @ChrisSmith-ec6qp
      @ChrisSmith-ec6qp 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      So true. How many figures and tanks do you think there are out there done copying NightShift techniques? I bet it's a lot. Lol

    Dear Uncle. Now everyone sees why you changed your style of releasing videos. Its a VERY long video, but VERY GOOD as well. It soothing, detailed and - most importantly - i never felt you would rush through the topic. And thats what you did back in the day when we had weekly videos. So, dear Martin, thank you. Great video (amazing build too!) and a very own unique style too.

    This model diorama building channel is by far one of the best here on TH-cam in my humble opinion. As someone who has been doing this type of work for over forty years I’ve seen everything under the sun in terms of techniques and trends . Products good or bad come and go. Model kits horribly produced or perfectly made are everywhere. True talent and most importantly someone who genuinely enjoys what they are doing always catches my eye. Story telling and fun are paramount in diorama creation. You my friend are excelling in those areas. May your imagination and joy never end…

    As someone who has no clue whatsoever about the effort that goes into making a diorama, its mind blowing to watch your craft and see the scene coming alive with every addition of detail. There were countless instances during the video when I thought - "Wow, that looks absolutely stunning" and you go ahead and add several more layers of detail and I am just speechless. Good is not good enough - perfection is where you draw the line! Thank you for sharing your work and amazing talent.

    Fantastic! I love the way you put foam inside the building! And if you want to use Oil Washes on foam Buildings, you can! Seal them with Acrylic Medium, Flat or Gloss! There's no pigment so it Seals Better and doesn't obscure detail. Just make sure it penetrates Every Crack and Crevasse!!! I usually airbrush it, but sometimes use a Brush, especially with Brick. So far I've done about 20 buildings with No Melting!!! And nazca247 is right, you are known to everyone! An Inspiration!!!

    This blew us away with how amazing it looks!
    Two thoughts, the window panes reflect the light very uniformly, if they were separated and reflected the light as individual panes they would mimic how the old windows look in real life.
    Second, I've found that wood stains applied directly to porous timber never looks quite natural, what is a very effective solution is to first apply a timber sealer, and then the stain, this makes it look like real timber, as it stops the over saturation of more porous areas.
