    Listening on AirPods, I'm hearing what I regard as an unacceptable amount of hiss with every word you say (for example between 3 minutes to 6 - I'm hearing the noise gate pumping). Is this due to using the mic further away than many people do?
    Is this fan noise in your room? If that case you need to place your PC further away and use the mic closer.

    • @Kyrylo_Borovyk
      @Kyrylo_Borovyk 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      This gentlemen has something messed up with his settings. Proximity effect on this mic does not produce such hiss

    • @axeldoom748
      @axeldoom748 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's definitely the noise of the PC fan coupled with the fact the mic is quite far away from his mouth. I have a similar issue with my laptop fan and I don't have the option to move it so I use a de noise plug-in from izotope Rx 8 standard to fix it. You could also use Nvidia noise suppression software but I find this takes more out of my voice than th izotope software

      He has a mighty amount of sibilance in his speaking. This, combined with the small physical size of the ear buds (making them better at high frequencies), won't be helping in the slightest.

      @@axeldoom748 should a dynamic mic really be picking up a pc fan like that? Sounds like he’s blasting tf out of his gain then

    I would recommend using Samson MBA series of boom arm instead of Rode one. It costs literally same but supports up to 2.3kg of weight. I used MBA48 in the past for particulary Procaster installed inside PSM1 for more than year. It kept position perfectly and it never let me down.
    Now, due to some work space reorganization I have switched to MBA18 insdead and re-used MBA48 as a LED key light holder.
    Also regading XLR Mixer - imo, RodeCaster Pro is extream overkill for streaming purposes or small utube channel. GoXLR Mini will be much more cheaper and will have pretty much everything needed for this microphone works right, including gates, compressor and additional gain without additional cloudlifter.
    And the last one. Rode Procaster - is one of the best dinamic microphones for streaming and podcasting in non-specially treated environments, it does not require sound proofed studio to work great. Obviously it will not help on construction ground or having constantly screaming child on your lap, but it is good enough to isolate a passing by car, a washing machine and fridge in same room with computer.

    Is a Cloudlifter needed for the 2 audio mixer options?

    • @MarkOakleyComics
      @MarkOakleyComics 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, a Cloudlifter plus a basic mid-range DAW like the Focusrite or Behringer UMC allows you to dispense with the RODE mixer altogether. Saves around $900! In either case, I find you really need a Cloudlifter or a Fethead, otherwise to get the signal you need you're pushing the gain on your DAW or mixer up to around 7 or higher, and you start getting line noise and other junk.
      The Fethead is actually cheaper than the Cloudlifter, sounds just as good and provides even more gain. With a Fethead, I record at 3 on my Behringer's gain dial. -I do adjustments in post with Davinci. It sounds really good.

    I have read that the focusrite scarlett 2i2 3rd gen doesn't have enough gain for the rode podcaster. Do you or anyone know a decent that's $120-$140 mixer that has enough gain so I don't need a cloud lifter?

    • @ecargnz7762
      @ecargnz7762 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello!! I have the 2i2 + Procaster, and yeah, my gain is up super high. I thought about getting a Cloud Lifter, but saw that the fethead is a great alternative, apparently - it's like half the price, and plugs into the mic. You get 20dB (as opposed to the 25 offered by the Cloud Lifter), but it might be fine for those who want one less cable, and a little bit less money spent. I'm thinking of getting one when I have some dollarydoos saved up. Hope this helps/inspires some research and alternatives for you! I am by no means any kind of expert also 😅

    • @blsk8s
      @blsk8s 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm using a cloud lifter with the 2i2, and it works well. But yeah, without it not enough gain. Not even close.

    • @justinl.7401
      @justinl.7401 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm using a Scarlett Solo 3rd gen and it works fine without a mic activator, but you *will* have to be quite close to the mic (Rode recommends within 5cm anyway).
      My gain is set to ~85% and I get an average level of -20dB with peaks around -15dB when speaking at a normal volume. Preamp hiss isn't an issue; if I amplify it until there's audible noise then it seems to be just my computer's fans.

    Audio is coming across very clipped and distorted with a nasally sound. Do you feel this due to the DAC on on the Procaster or is it onboard signal processing? What are the supported file file formats on this unit?

    Are there other mixers that work well with the procaster? I like the sound of the processing but 600 bucks is a bit much, are there cheaper alternatives or is this something you can do with software aswell? I will mainly use the mic for gaming, team meetings, school work and sometimes voice overs for school projects.

    This video did seem like a promotional video for the $599 Rode mixer than the Focusrite? Just saying. I know channels have to make money too but your Amazon commission is definitely better on $599 vs $120 something. I understand that fully from "your" point of view. BUT, TH-cam producers primary income SHOULD NOT be there sponsorships or commissions IMO! After all you are producers so your primary source should be music. Selling it, making it, etc. And then your TH-cam channel is for help new "beginners" learn about music producing and equipment they can afford. This is just my opinion that's all.
