I started my Podcast more than 2 years ago and luckily I did it with the Rode Procaster microphone, today July 2022 I'm still using it and I alternate it with the best of all the Electrovoice RE-20 in my opinion, it's the best I've ever had, and as number 2 follows the Procaster. Thanks Dave, you video is good.

haha, I love it! Thanks for the deathmetal review. I do think the low cut on the sm7b is too aggressive though for spoken word but I understand it's helpful for very deep voices. I think for most people a flat setting or presence boost create a better sound for spoken word. Imo.

Let me first say, thank you so much for covering these 3 mics last year. I'm in the market for a new mic as I recently made the leap to the GoXLR for my streaming set up and my Blue Yeti is just not cutting it anymore. Kind of sad as it's been a great USB mic for almost 3 yrs.
The SM7B was always on my list when I would make the leap to a dynamic XLR mic but the $400 price tag for just "streaming" and occasional podcast recording seemed a bit much. With the introduction of the other 2 mics, it's making it real tough to pull the trigger on the SM7B simply to due to fact that I can EQ the PodMic or ProCaster to get really really close to the Shure and still have money left over for beer. This review really was what I was looking for.
Ok. Now that that's out of the way, I FOOKING LOVE the lyrics to your vocal singing portion! Lmao! It was fantastic to hear it in metal! Thank you. Great stuff Dave.

THrough all the streaming and twitching and podcastign it became sort of a lifestyle-object and the used-prices are absolutely trashed compared to 4-5 years ago.

I always thought the SM7B was the only real deal and was saddened because I never had money for that mic AND a Cloudlifter or a Triton Audio FetHead. but after seeing this shootout I guess the PodMic might be an awesome alternative.

I still think the sm7b sounds the best and, like you said, natural. The podmic had a little more enunciation on the s hisses and Slightly more breathy that I didn'tcare for, but not bad. Pro caster seems competitive with the sm7b. Overall great mics for the price.

My ear is not refined enough to be able to distinguish between them in a death metal vocals setting, but I noticed a clear difference in the speech example. The Rode mics had a certain 'podcasty' characteristic that I have noticed in their shotgun mics as well (and every Rode mic I've heard). I guess what I'm saying is that I'm not a fan of the Rode sound, yet so many people are. I imagine for someone who knows what they're doing, can get the sound they want from any of these in editing, but for those without much audio knowledge such as myself, these kinds of comparison videos are quite helpful. So, thank you!

    • @DaveOteroTube
