$10 Locomotives Lot from Ebay - Unboxing & Testing

- I was looking around on Ebay a few weeks ago and stumbled across this lot of five HO scale locomotives for only $10 dollars. I have no idea why they were going for such a cheap price but I ordered it anyway and I'm pretty happy with what I got. Non of them run but I believe with a bit of work they all have the potential to.

Tyco made in America is not something you see everyday. Awesome lot for cheap......good restoration material 👍
Tyco made trains in America until the late 60's Thats when they started making them in Hong Kong and then China
Yup that switcher is from the tyco transformers train set. I still have my little switcher from when I was kid and my parents got it for me
Edit: I think the real reason the River Rossi tank engine isn't moving well is because it missing the driving pins on both sides that connect all three wheels on each side together and so when the wheel turns it isn't catching the other sets of wheels and pushing them along with it.all you need is to get those and I'm sure that little tanker can be a very usual engine again
The loco with the radar is a tyco 0-4-0 but it’s a transformers train. There’s an entire set for it

I’m looking forward to seeing what you get running. I’ve never had a lot of luck repairing Tyco or old Bachmann locos, but you have a love for those that I definitely don’t have. I picked up one of those Tycos with the antenna at a flea market, but mine was dead too and I just resold it. The US Tyco is most likely a Mantua and they were probably built in my home state of New Jersey. The Rivarossi looks like a saddle tank and will definitely run, but I think you’ll need the connecting rod assembly.

My first engine was the Lima 0-4-0....in 1970...she still runs! Fast!
You might need to add weight on the front pilot....it has a habit of leaving the ground.
Nice pick. Love to see the riv restored with replacement drivers, maybe. Have the Santa fe. And other steamer.

OOOOOOOO TRANSFORMERS ENGINE! that thing is pretty rare. The little silver switcher with the red stripe is the transformers locomotive. From a Tyco set from 1986. I have one too, it's in my Transformers collection, not my train collection
The Transformers engine is worth the $10 by its self.
Sorry, transformers nerd moment. But it's a cool little set, the cars that came with it transformed as well, the Caboose actually transformed into a Jet

Oh BTW SMT, that set has proprietary couplings, it won't connect to anything else I believe. You can swap them out however
The 0-4-0 collection will grow and grow until you are powerless against them.
And this is just what Harrison needs...more 0-4-0 switchers!!!! And another nice video - even with the commercials in it!! But that Santa Fe switcher with the light under the hood....maybe the shell is on backwards????

Just watched some of the vid. I have no clue why locomotives are so expensive recently. I saw a lot of 7 diesels go for $115 dc and they were old tycos

I'd say your right. Because even ive bought things cheap and not had an issue. I bought a mantua pacific for $5 and it runs . the drive rods a riviet was broke and one part twisted but I had a chassis waiting for the boiler and I had a tender waiting plus a cow catcher/pilot and just needs tweaking but runs great.
Looks like you got a real good bargain there Harrison! Not sure if I've seen any of these locomotives before especially the Transformers locomotive! I may have mentioned this before but if you like more unusual locomotives, look out for Cox locomotives, some of which were made by Athearn. These locomotives and even some of the rolling stock, were essentially clones of the Blue Box offerings with VERY minor differences! Anyway, just wanted to share that with you in case your looking for some more unusual locomotives and rolling stock, take care!

SMT - The red & silver Tyco Santa Fe diesel switcher may have a mechanism that is very similar to the Tyco trolley.
The "weird" 0-6-0 is a saddletank 0-6-0
So close to 20K!

when you think about it they cost $2 each which is a real bargin i reckon.

You get what you pay for. Was shipping more than the actual lot? That’s always the case. Can’t wait to see you pump life back into these units.

I was replying to your comment as he commented on the shipping price because that was my first thought as well. It’s still a valid comment, as he has to pay a lot for shipping from the US, never mind the Canadian VAT.

The Tyco steamer, will probably run.
The Rivarossi, those were junk new. Had one mint in the box, wouldn't run, motor was bad.
Early Tyco should have the same guts as their other engines (F7. GP20, C430), just hidden inside. Same deal with the Marx except the shell is made to snap on the truck from their F-unit drive.
I might have nabbed that for the Marx, I picked up a Marx HO set box for a set with one of those engines in it. thought I might fill it up.

The red and silver atsf little guy started smoking on my layout I have the same one as you got in this video it’s old and I had the similar experience with that c&o one that smoked and you got the partial refund

Gotta call in Dan the tyco man for this one. The grey 2 axle switcher is indeed from the transformers set. Finding the cars may be a challenge so good luck! Also the Santa Fe 4 wheel switcher is a redbox which is early production. P.s. get ready for people spamming that the diesels are not 0-4-0s
