For those who are noticing the several derailments, this video was taken in the late spring as the park was getting reopened for the summer running season. The winter weather can be hard on the track, lots of frost heaves, pine needles and nasty little green pine cones, not to mention tree roots that like to grow right down the middle of the track. It takes several months of dedicated hard work by the all volunteer track gang to get things running smoothly. This past week I ran over the same route we filmed on without any derailments. Thanks track gang.

Train mountain has a great TH-cam channel that depicts their upkeep. they used to (maybe still do) have a lot of live cameras on their website. they had a really big fire recently, which put a bit setback in their maintenance.

My wife and I "stumbled" across this museum while on a cross country trip in 2021. They just happened to be having an annual event that weekend, so we had a special treat. One of the owners asked if we would like a ride . An hour and a half later we came back to the station. The museum was just amazing in its size and detail. It was one the real highlights of our transcontinental trip.

If the loco+tender are balanced over the central pivot perfectly, the whole thing "weighs" almost nothing, and it can indeed be moved by one person. Of course, if the loco is a foot forward or back from centre, you are pushing the weight of that foot of loco and it gets a lot harder...

They have started doing the annual Awdry Extravaganza in July to remember the man who helped the railway, and created the beloved Railway Series.

That is so cool. I remember as a young child, while visiting family in Nova Scotia, my grandfather and father taking my sister and I to something similar. These days I think it's called Trecothic Creek & Windsor Railway (not sure if that was the case back then) which is a non-profit, run by railroad model enthusiasts... and I remember being so excited. I didn't want to leave.
They had scale models of trains (which they gave rides on - with special cars pulled by the engine for passengers to sit on), buildings and the usual railroad support structures... and the track ran through a wooded area (I don't know how long their track went). Trains, along with dinosaurs, were my passion back then... and I remember it was a great day out.

Turntables were invented in order to be able to place a locomotive in any stall in a roundhouse, either forward or backward without having to move any other engines. A roundhouse is a building designed so that you can place the most engines inside under cover using the least amount of space. Some are shaped like donuts, with the turntable in the center and space left open to move engines in and out. Others are arcs, the size of which depends on the number of stalls. The ability to turn equipment around is an added benefit, but not the reason they were originally made. Turntables were not usually built alone, but with roundhouses.

I used to live there 25 years ago while going to college. In my spare time I would volunteer building switches to be used later during a work week. That place is amazing!!

I have seen and watched several video's, but this is by far the best experience I have ever watched. Every man's dream to have fun on a layout like this. If I ever am close to the Train Mountain Railroad I will be making a stop and begging for a ride. It is awesome.

Kids really enjoy this tracking train adventure that pass several blocks from railway station. I thought, I ride this adventure all along by changing my dream to create my train session. This makes this what it means to my day.

Very cool. The Fort Worth Zoo has a miniature train that's slightly larger scale than Train Mountain's and has a 5 mile track. I remember riding it as a child and falling in love with trains. It's been closed for a couple years but is set to reopen this summer.

This feels like it should have a couple of sidings put on it and families can catch a train out to a picnic spot and relax for a few hours in the open air before a train comes by to pick them up and take them back to the station.

The good ol' SP&S! Spokane Portland and Seattle Railroad. NICE!
Also, this is located in Chiloquin, Oregon, which is in central Oregon, on the west side of the Cascade Mountains. Which we call the "dry side of the state".

There are a few Model railways like this near to where I live on England, and I volunteer at one of them - they aren't nearly as long as this but they are still great fun!

the derailment tool reminds me of the nice benefit of the "car railroad crossing" bits you can get for small hand held model trains. the tracks tends to be really small to get on the rails so running the train back and forth on the railroad crossing track sections will auto rerail the model trains.

Been here several times as my uncle is a member and has several locomotives including steam it’s an awesome time that said if you bring small kids to places like this keep a close eye on them because well small hands like touching things and the boiler even on these steam locomotives is around 440 degrees. But it’s an amazing hobby every single loco and car is largely hand built by the owner in their garage or shop and as you can see here the finished projects are functioning works of art.

The longest was built in Scotland five years ago and was 72 miles long. However it no longer exists as legal requirements meant it was built as a temporary structure in the National park and taken up after a few days of it being finished . It was a live steam engine approximately G Scale.

Train Mountain was founded by my great uncle and, my dad and his siblings put in money and labor to support it in the beginning, Im surprised how much its expanded.
