When you hear songs, they mean different things at different times in your life. Many songs about girlfriends turn into songs about daughters. When your first daughter is born and you hear "Let me tell you about the girl I met last night" means something totally different now than when you were 17.
I've never known a girl like you before Now just like in a song from days of yore Here you come a-knockin', knockin' on my door And I've never met a girl like you before You give me just a taste, so I want more Now my hands are bleeding and my knees are raw 'Cause now you've got me crawlin', crawlin' on the floor And I've never known a girl like you before You've made me acknowledge the devil in me I hope to God I'm talkin' metaphorically Hope that I'm talkin' allegorically Know that I'm talkin' about the way I feel And I've never known a girl like you before Never, never, never, never Never known a girl like you before This old town's changed so much Don't feel that I belong Too many protest singers, not enough protest songs And now you've come along, yes, you've come along And I never met a girl like you before It's all right Yeah, it's all right Yeah, it's all right Yeah, it's all right Yeah, it's all right Yeah, it's all right
I saw this episode live. I have seen about 400+ of the Late Nite Show w/ Conan on NBC and this was the best live performance and the most memorable for me. This song and performance was/is awesome despite it being about the Devil.
I remember it very well. Our lesson for the day during an English class ca mid 1995 somewhere in SEA was about tenses esp. the present perfect tense. After discussing the basics, the application part. When it was my classmate's turn to recite, she confidently recited: 'I've never met a girl like you before' much to our cool teacher's delight. We were a bunch of 10 yr olds back then. How time swiftly flies.
I remember how much that sound stood out; nobody had used fuzz like that for, like, decades when this came out. Didn't know it was him on guitar, pretty damn cool
@@COLTRONNN your right mate learnt the solo teacher taught me he knew right away ran and grabbed his fuzz pedal he had it down in 2 seconds I’m still trying lol wicked song 👍🤘🎸
I know a lot of people who would still love to buy his CD after all of these years because he was not promoted that well in the radio stations and his name and song title not known well but every friend of mine wants that song.
He can certainly play the guitar brilliantly! I believe he fronts a cult status band in the UK now - if anyone knows the name of the Group or a link to TH-cam I'd be very grateful. Big Hugs!
when this got out it barely made the charts in my country but it was my favourite song of the year. I was so happy when I found it on cd single in some obscure record bin, as we didn't have mp3 yet in 1994 and I hardly heard it on the radio. Anyway, is mr Collins a true One hit Wonder or has he made more notable songs?
For 4 minutes, Edwyn Collins was the coolest dude on Earth. He owned this performance...effortless.
this is not a dude. you're a dude. this is a man
There are a few vids of this song live, I love it .
Bad ass song, and performance, I could dance my ass off to this song.
Coolest man on the planet. For 4 minutes. Every time you hit play. Legend 😎
@@aguywholifts680 a real man??🤣🤣🤣
2020 and This song still kicks asss! One of my favourite in general.
Truth
Agreed, and now (at the moment c2021) it’s suddenly my Favourite in partICULAR - about to download to get some volume on the affair, Number 11! 😂
I feel it steel in 2021
The sounds he gets out of that electric guitar are downright otherworldly.
When first heard this song, was sure it was Bowie singing.
Hats off to Edwin Colloins , as its 2019 and am still listening to it like the first time.
@Stripes , then you haven't really heard Bowie.
Agree!
I totally agree. It reeks of the "Thin Prince."
THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS OF LIFE! SO MANY PIECES WITHIN A PIECE. ITS LIKE A PRISM. HE IS PHENOMENAL!!!
That bassist is really holding things down in a great way.
Love that guitar sound, man. That bending and vibrato, what a player!

This song is stuck in my head for 35 years😆😆
The song is TIMELESS...60'S GROOVE, 80'S COOL, FUTURISTIC FLOURISHES...I IT GROOVES! I RHAPSODIZE!
This is one of those "perfect" songs.
It is killer, but I seem to recall a Chris Isaak song that was basically the same thing.
Wicked Game. Huge hit.
I can see the similarities. It's very mellow though.
This one has distortion and is more upbeat.
@@pm3182 I was thinking of "Dancin" although I don't think that has distortion either.

Damn that was good.
That WAS great
The reason I’ve used envelope filters
with nasty fuzz boxes for 20 years: the legend that is Edwyn Collins. I got to tell him that, too!
I've never known a girl like you before
Now just like in a song from days of yore
Here you come a-knockin', knockin' on my door
And I've never met a girl like you before
You give me just a taste, so I want more
Now my hands are bleeding and my knees are raw
'Cause now you've got me crawlin', crawlin' on the floor
And I've never known a girl like you before
You've made me acknowledge the devil in me
I hope to God I'm talkin' metaphorically
Hope that I'm talkin' allegorically
Know that I'm talkin' about the way I feel
And I've never known a girl like you before
Never, never, never, never
Never known a girl like you before
This old town's changed so much
Don't feel that I belong
Too many protest singers, not enough protest songs
And now you've come along, yes, you've come along
And I never met a girl like you before
It's all right
Yeah, it's all right
Yeah, it's all right
Yeah, it's all right
Yeah, it's all right
Yeah, it's all right
Thanks so much.x
Paul Cook on drums providing a tremendous beat.

Damn good....for a lot of years. And, the acknowledgement of such "damn good" will continue.
This is better than the recorded version!
This is forever iconic, that guitar solo 😍🔥😍🔥
Love to see someone not follow the guitar rules and pull off a tone like that. Great version , great artist and yes that is Paul Cook on the drums.
I remember how much that sound stood out; nobody had used fuzz like that for, like, decades when this came out. Didn't know it was him on guitar, pretty damn cool
Who the hell asked?
No shit it's Paul Cook. Thanks for stating the obvious though.
@@daverice2426 I love the recorded version, his guitar sounds too trebly and synthy here for my tastes though.

This Man is savage at this!
I have never heard a guitar sound like this before.
never never never heard a guitar like that before
I’m trying to learn it
Propqbly a chorus pedal
sounds like a phaser and a wah pedal combo. then some distortion or fuzz on top for the solo parts.
@@COLTRONNN your right mate learnt the solo teacher taught me he knew right away ran and grabbed his fuzz pedal he had it down in 2 seconds I’m still trying lol wicked song 👍🤘🎸
best version ever
The guitar riffs in this song tho!!!! My boyfriend is a guitarist and if he played this for me I’d probably die
Edwyn is awesome! Excellent musician and guitarist.

Edwyn Collins and Conan O'Brien are pretty much the same model of human.
