I don't understand all the people who are annoyed at Emil for converting up models even if they're OOP. There are thousands and thousands of tomb kings armies around the world already. This is being turned into a one of a kind army that will stand on its own. I think he's creating something even better than the original Tomb Kings ever were, keep it up Emil ❤️
I agree! What I think is a travesty is minis just sitting unpainted in boxes years upon years. And it’s not like he’s destroying them, converting and kit bashing has always been a core part of the hobby.
Are those old books collectable at all? There's a hobby store by me that has old Fantasy army books still. They have Tomb Kings, High Elves, Dark Elves, and Vampire Counts.
I'm currently converting a lot of Ossiarch Bonereapers with Tomb Kings bits to give them that special egyptian touch. But your conversions are just awesome!
Tomb Kings were my first army when I got into Warhammer, so it hurts just a little to see them torn up despite how insanely well done it all is. For the banner maybe the Herald Nekaph could be your Astrolith Bearer? I definitely support going heavier on the Tomb King bits, but a mix of full skeletons and mummified Lizardmen marching together would be super sick.
love the idea, how about turning the "egypt" theme into an aztec theme instead? so its humanoid bodies/shapes with the lizardmen style of ornaments seeing nagash just gave me instant ancient inca/Azetec vibes with that hat Also: Morathi could probably be bashed/transformed to be a quetzalcoatl
The first piece of GS in the video, the one 'mounting' nagash to his base - for such applications, and general filling in gaps and sculpting softer, organic shapes/fabrics, but not necessarily big, unsupported hanging cloaks, I prefer an 'enhanced miliput'. Standard, usual yellow-grey miliput, take X of part A, X of part B, mix. Now, into that ball you can add anywhere between X to 2X of plasticine, and it will cure just fine + no problems with priming and painting. I use sulphur-free plasticine I have for making molds, but just because it's super soft, softer than standard one for kids. The benefit is that miliput will be less sticky, but softer, smoother in feeling and it can be smoothed with water even better than the standard, non-plasticine one.
regarding the riders, I would go with an undead aztec warrior look. So combine skeleton warriors with golden headdress and/or bangles + adding lot's of colorful feathers + tombking weapons + lizardman shields.
If i may offer a suggestion for the magnetized pieces; adding in 1 or 2 pins glued only on 1 side will greatly stabilize the modifications. I've done this multiple times with dreadnaughts arms to keep the active threatening pauses with great success.
I think this is honestly one of the coolest conversions on TH-cam. I want to see more of this series. With Tomb Kings likely never being released again this is great to keep them "alive".. surprised by some of the negative comments about this conversion. I really like the idea for your army! Is really neat, and feels unique! I feel like the biggest challenge you have at the moment is the style, one thing I have learned as a concept artist is that, knowing what you looking for before hand and writting it down is what will help you go through the project, it is really important to define the style, so that the army looks cohisive and not just a bunch of parts glued together. What you have done with nagash is awesome, because you are suggesting a tomb king adopting the seraphon style, which is full of rounded stones, rough metals and feathers, pulling away the sharp details the toomb kings have. But on the other hand, you just have glued seraphon stuff on top of a sphinx, having the two styles colliding way too much. I suggest you to study both styles and see how to mix them, seraphons look like the use a mix of materials for the weaapons, like stone covered in brass, holded by rough wood, also using beast skulls and bones. XD It´s way too much text, sorry, if you are interested in knowing more I can help you with a couple of drawings hahahaha
i think the mummified lizards would be cool cause then you could do rotting scales and wraps all over their body. Maybe highlight some of their tails being used as weapons. Etc. Love how this turned out.
My honest take is to go real nightmare-fuel on this one. Snap the Skeletons in half, break off Skink limbs and heads, butcher everything. Then go about creating units around patterns, ie a unit of Skink-heads, Skele-torsos, left Skink-limbs, and right Skele-limbs while you make a unit of totally opposite composition.. Mix up some Saurus & Cold Ones in the same way with the chariots, having say a half-Skele-horse and half-living Cold One, or a chariot with one Cold One and one Skele-horse. Heavily lean into the aesthetic as if Kroak and Nagasha are almost warring for control, but both driven in the same direction as they swerve between each other's powers, creating half-living, half-dead amalgamations of their minions, creatures, and weapons. Make it a truly hellish nest of creations that are bound to their masters, as the Tomb King soldiers were smashed into the Skink and Saurus, creating an army that defies the laws of Nature and reality. This could lead to an unholy level of sculpting (pun intended), as you gotta take living parts and make them look genuinely attached to undead parts, but by GOD would that army look fucking cool. A true hellish blend of Seraphon and Tomb Kings would be an army for the ages, as befitting their leaders smashing together in blasphemous cohesion.
For the riders maybe you could use skinks, but add lots of bones from the TK bodies on them like they're wearing them for some armor parts or braces wrapped in greenstuff rags. Hack up some of the shields or banner emblems to make chest plates or back plates. Hang a few Tomb King heads from the back or belt area.
Aztec Nagash is fantastic! That's an aesthetic that I didn't know that I wanted to an undead army but now I do xd. I would suggest that you continue with the Aztec/Mayan aesthetic for the rest of the skeletons in the army. It works really well. Cheers!
if you are looking for bits to fill out the tomb king side of the army "one page rules" have a 3rd party tomb king looking army and you can buy them either printed or in STL files (so you can print the bits you want). they also have an awesome looking dead scorpion too. i just hope GW does re-release tomb kings for "old world" cause i just love the ancient Egyptian aesthetic
I still think the Tomb Kings where done dirty with Age of Sigmar. Such an interesting army. Also I would model Nagash to have one of the legs crossed and that he is slouching on the chair XD
Squidmar, Maybe you could have skinks, but print or pick up some skeleton lizard heads! 👀 Tomb Kings clothing is a must though! They have the coolest aesthetic ✨
For the crew models, didn't GW used to make an all skeleton unit of different Old World races? You could get some Skink/warrior skellies that way. Good luck finding any.
The finished conversion reminds me heavily of Mictlantecuhtli from Constantine: City of Demons. Maybe taking a look at it and following in this "Aztec God of Death" direction...?
Seraphon + Squidmar = OH YEAH! Great conversions! Gonna look amazing when painted! Saurus Guard would make for some easy conversions also. Lots of bone plating in the kit already... and you will want some to guard Kroak!
Oef.. the big sad to see tomb king models being refurbished.. but having it sit in a box doing nothing is also a big sad.. Love me some Egypt though! So I'm team mummy skinks! Good luck and see ya next time?
Maybe get some reptilian skeletons and mix those with tomb king parts. Also get big dinosaur like skeletons to run as Carnosaurs? Also you could make some dragon skeletons too for something to add some flare.
If you make a banner bearer character you should have it function as the Saurus Astrolyth Bearer, it’s useful to play with Lord Kroak and a bunch of Saurus warriors
I feel like this must have been answered before but I cannot find it: what is that mat present a couple times through the video with ratios of paint to thinner/water for base coats, recess shading, washing, etc.? I always have to do look this ratios up again because I mix them up so I'd love to buy or get those ratios printed on a cutt mat or something.
If it's an option, I'd just use a mix of skins and skeletons ontop of the larger creatures. Just either give the skeletons Seraphon armor, or the skins Tomb King (or Necron, if you have some stuff that looks close enough) armor so you have a common aestetic
Ok so I'm half way through the video and I got to say this is sooo amazing bro as always! I've been making my own custom nagash for a bit. He's in a bone throne being carried by his ghosts. I love your astec nagash! Tomb kings ftw!!
For the riders, I'm wondering if combining undead-ified skinks and tomb kings would work. I think having a mix of both would fit the lore you're building, and give you greater flexibility in future conversions by helping unite the different armies' parts.
I've got an old Undead faction rulebook and Vampire Counts faction rulebook. I love reading the lore and the over the top artwork. As for your model, I love your changes. Honestly, the original Nagash model is beyond extra... it's absurd. A bone beard and bone back tentacles? A hat that's at least 25% too tall. I'd sooner use Mortarion and tell people that's Nagash. It feels like they left Nagash to last because they didn't know what to do with him.
The "desert adventures" kickstarter a while back had a crocodile skull wearing a head scarf you could put on its mummies that could work for a tomb king skink but unfortunately i don't see that bits pack on their mymini page with the rest of the set

Really looking forward to seeing this evolve! Brilliant idea for an army!
Looks amazing can not wait to watch it
I feel like this must have been answered before but I cannot find it: what is that mat present a couple times through the video with ratios of paint to thinner/water for base coats, recess shading, washing, etc.?
When is there going to be a part two?????????? Part two please!!!!!
This project reminds me a lot of Brad Glover's Seraphon/Necron army, definitely worth a look if you haven't seen it.
The "desert adventures" kickstarter a while back had a crocodile skull wearing a head scarf you could put on its mummies that could work for a tomb king skink but unfortunately i don't see that bits pack on their mymini page with the rest of the set
I wish I was in the hobby when Tom kings where around 😢
Yeah man me too, they came out just as i left the hobby and when i came back they were gone
