    Im about a year and a half in with the same saw. The fence is sadly bowing inwards? Its still square on the other portions of the fence but somehow both the left and right sides of the fence are curving inwards

    For those who have this saw, Shop Nation has come out with an aftermarket dust collector that works pretty well. I just installed it last week. I also upgraded the blade to a CMT chrome, and it cuts like glass now.

      I was looking at the Craftsman 10" sliding miter saw, single bevel. It is the only saw I've seen with a low dust port that is directly in the cutting path, directly behind the fence, basically directly in line with the cutting teeth, so it probably catches 99% of the sawdust, unlike other saws which catch about 70%. Good to know they make a better dust collector for the Hercules.

    Loving this thing. Couldn't resist the price when I stepped up from the 10, to a 12 inch compound. It had good reviews. I'm sold now after using and abusing it for two years. I do all kinds of work on homes. Use this is cabinet making, to interior millwork, to exterior composite decks. It's smooth, and accurate. I slam the detents on the compound bevel to slice 1x 12 returns... detents are positive and fast to move, I don't even lock the back knob unless its an odd angle I set by hand to a bevel. Front detents just as accurate. I have beat it up, used it outdoors in rain and snow. It is heavy, so put it on the ridgid stand with the big wheels. It barely fits in the canopy of my truck. The canopy hatch is a little rounded, so have to line the head of the saw up right in the middle to fit it in... but I've slammed it to get it in, as well as slammed the front adjusting knob into the canopy clamps stuffing it in there.... and it remains accurate and solid.

    I will respectfully say that you're wrong about the lifetime warranty. Only most of their handtools have a lifetime warranty. Everything else in the store only has a 90 day warranty unless you pay extra for the 1 or 2 year replacement plan, which will guarantee you another replacement after the 90 days. However, you can keep stacking new replacement plans onto the replacements, so the only thing you pay for is the plan when it comes time to turn the tool in. As of late though they are giving a lot of the brushless Hercules tools and batteries the same 5 and 3 year warranties as companies like Milwaukee and DeWalt, but again that's only for their brushless line.

    I have had this saw for over a year now. I use it daily and have no complaints. I did make a zero tolerance plate for it to keep small cut offs from dropping down in there. The saw has been accurate, it has plenty of power and the Hurcules 80 tooth blade cuts very clean. I cut a lot of cedar and oak with it making different things and it has not failed me at all.

    I bought one of these (with the stand) about 6 months ago and didn't get a chance to use it until recently due to a long-distance move. But I needed to build a 10' x 12' shed at the new house and this thing was stellar. Cuts like butter and is super accurate and square. One thing I don't like about it is the process of setting the stand up and taking it back down again. Seems like there should be a handle at each end instead of just one end. Kind of awkward with no handle at the heavy end. Having the ability to move it around is great though. I wheeled it out of the garage and right out to the job site in the backyard. One advantage of using it out there is not getting the garage full of sawdust, which was great. I bought it during one of Harbor Freight's many sales and got a great deal on it. Definitely a good buy.

    Harbor Freight FTW! Most miter saw dust collection is poor. The real test is how well the saw locks back into 90 after using it for a miter.

      That's literally my favorite feature about this saw is how it auto locks into place at set degrees such as 90, 45, 22.5, 15 and 0. Pretty much the only degrees i ever need to use and i don't have to bother with fine adjustment. Also the shadow guideline is so much better then a laser thats offset by an 1/8th of an inch. Its literally spot on where its going to cut. Only things i don't like about the saw is the cheap out rigger supports and lack of a back tilt support. I actually thought this did quite well at dust collection in comparison to some other saws. It depends on what you are cutting i suppose. I used this saw to side my entire house in cedar shingles where i constantly had to cut 22.5 degrees and it would pick up 90% of the dust. Compared to the admiral harbor freight saw its way better.

    I think the non wheel side roller is built backwards. You have it so the stop flips over to the away from the saw side, which makes sense , but if you look at it , the offset is to the back of the saw, not the front like the wheel side arm.

    Thanks for the review! Just picked up the saw and stand yesterday and am dying to unbox and check it out. I got lucky and caught it on the "in store" parking lot sale $299 for the saw and $149 for the stand. Can't beat $450 for a brand new setup like that with a lifetime warranty, especially if it performs well and lasts a long time. I've used all the big name brands and have something to compare it to so I'll let y'all know how it goes and what I think after I use it on the house I'm building now. Thanks again!

      @@richardfowler3254 yeah for sure. I bought the warranty. Definitely worth it. An in-store replacement on the spot is way better than packing the tool up in a crate/box and sending off to the manufacturer for warranty work. Running great. However like one of the comments below, the top pieces of the fence(the ones that slide out), are bending over time. Since the bottom ones haven’t moved, it still cuts with the same accuracy as it started. But still lame.
      Stand is still solid.

    I have the same saw, I haven't used it much yet, but the few projects I've used it for, its done extremely well. It replaced a 10" and a 12" Chicago Electric Miter Saw, and the Hercules is 100x better built and far more powerful. I can't see paying 3x the price for other brands....I do not have the stand for it yet, need to catch it when its on sale LOL....I bought the saw on sale for $299 a few months ago, couldn't pass by that deal....this saw is much heavier than the 12" Chicago Electric saw, its got more power, and all the stops are secure unlike the Chicago Electric that had some slop in it after a few years.

  • @starseeddeluxe

    Unfortunately the dust problem is a major problem, with all the radial arm saws (I mean sliding compound miter saws). The Craftsman 10" single bevel appears to be the only saw I've come across, which has a proper dust collection port which sits level with the fence, and it's not attached to the upper housing on the motor like most useless dust shrouds. The reason that factory saws have a useless dust shroud is because they want consumers to able to cut 4" thick beams without removing the dust shroud. I watched a video of a man who almost returned his Bosch sliding miter saw, because of the very poor dust collection. Radial arm saws also have atrocious dust collection during crosscuts, but during rip cuts, nothing beats the antique radial arm saw for dust collection.

    Bought this mitter saw November of 2021, in December 2022, started having problems with the switch and breaking system for the blade. Called Harbor Freight, there is only a 90-day warranty from the store. If u didn't buy the warranty, I did not. And there is NO lifetime warranty even from the manufacturer. I ordered part in December, and they have not arrived. Now I have $500 pc of equipment in my shop that does not work, after only using it after a year. I'm so disappointed. I am a crafter, not doing construction. At this moment, I would not recommend this product. If you all have any thoughts, I'd love to hear them.

Same exact thing happen..i was using it and the saw break started acting funny and then the sweet smell of electrical burning. If your in the market for a miter saw at the same price point as the hercules you can get a more quality well known brand. If i could do over thats what i would do

  • @terrmaso

    A few questions. How accurate are the detents and can they be easily adjusted when necessary?
    How much deflection is there when the saw is at max cut capacity? I've encountered some that are almost useless due to that issue.
    If you haven't already, a small shroud would do wonders for the dust collection.

      I have had this saw for about 2 years now. The "detents" are spot on (on mine) and my max crosscut is 14". I love this saw, I am still using the provided blade but I am about ready to change it out because it is 2 years old...

    • @kfletcher2005
      @kfletcher2005 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got my saw last month, and the detents are on the spot. I don't know about adjusting the detents, I haven't fiddle with it. Regarding dust collection, I built a new fence with a semi - circular box that fits under the blade that does a pretty good job at dust collection if your cutting a standard 2x4. Cutting pieces larger than the box itself, the vacuum just can't seem to catch it all.

    One, like the initial review, two, you should get into more depth about its workings like other channels (Shop Nation, etc), Third, it would be good to know who makes it (Not HF) and the similarities to something like Delta Cruze by DPEC or Ridgid version since it looks and works very similar. 👍

    • @DKWalser
      @DKWalser 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This saw has very little in common with the Delta Cruze of Ridgid version of the same saw -- other than what all sliding miter saws have in common. The Delta/Ridgid twins use two articulating arms to allow the saw head to 'slide' forward and back. (Bosch has a saw that uses similar articulating arms.) Like most other saws, the saw head on the Hercules is attached to the ends of two round bars. Those bars slide forward and back through some linear bearings mounted at the back of the saw. It's these bars and bearings that allow the saw head to slide. But, to allow the bars room to do their work, the saw needs a fair amount of room behind it or the saw head will not be able to fully retract. In contrast, the Delta/Ridgid twins (and the Bosch) allow the saw to be mounted virtually flush against a wall. (Festool, and a few others, get the same benefit by mounting the bars to the saw's frame -- allowing the saw head to slide along the bars.)
      I'm sure many already know all this. I only mention it because vmoutsop said that the Hercules looked so similar to the Delta/Ridgid saws.
      One last thing: We don't know who makes the saw for Harbor Freight. Virtually all the tools sold at Harbor Freight are made especially for Harbor Freight. Particularly for the Bauer and Hercules lines, most of these tools are not simple rebrands sold under another name at another store. Harbor Freight has, and will, take its design to a new supplier from time to time. It's one of the ways Harbor Freight controls costs.

Throw away the blade they come with and put a quality blade on and you will not be disappointed . None of them have a decent dust collection system unless you want to pay big boy dollars.

    Reviews of any miters saws shouldn’t include dust collection. NO miter saw has a great dust collection from the least expensive to the most. You can add attachments that may “improve” dust collection, but you’ll never eliminate it 100%. Secondly, all saws, including every single brand, come with a basic saw blade. Even a $1000 saw comes with a blade no different than an inexpensive saw.
