    I, personally, own this Hercules Miter saw, and keep it in my garage/shop. I've owned mine for about a year. I'm very happy with my purchase. I'm not sure if I'd buy it to use on a job site, but it's likely good enough. I used to check it to make sure that it was square just about every week at first. I don't do that at all anymore. It's square, and there's no sense in wasting the time to prove it to me. I've used mostly just Rigid, Makita, and Dewalt saws on various job sites. I purchased the rolling miter saw stand at Harbor Freight when I purchased this saw. It seems as sturdy as any premium saw stand that I've ever used, but I haven't used this one yet. I think that the game changer is the shadow cutting line. I have more confidence in it than I've ever had with the laser lines that are common on all the other saws. I've never trusted the Laser Lines. It has an amazing amount of power, and I'm glad that I saved the money, and bought this saw.

    I bough5 this about a year ago and been using it hard, this thing is a beast and hasn’t slowed a bit yet. The shadow line is great, It was square out of the box zero adjustments and couldn’t be happier with my purchase. I was looking at the DeWalt DWS 780 but after looking at both I couldn’t see spending nearly double for the same saw. I’m a DIY’er who does a fair amount, in middle of kitchen renovation down to the studs and recently built a bathroom vanity and garage door. My only complaint is the dust collection but I look at the accuracy as more important. As for weight it’s same as most others out there so not sure why knocking it and any sliding saw will take up the same space, DWS780 isn’t lighter and need less space? This saw is absolutely worth the money!

  • @gFeeley
    @gFeeley ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I just bought one. Everything is solid. As for one of your bad issues is the amount of space needed, you need to take into consideration that for a more compact saw you lose cutting capacity. So for me it’s not a bad issue.

    Great review. The proof is in the work. IMHO, the whole Hercules line from HF seems to show that they have done some work and research to improve quality, and offers overall some serious improvements over previous tool offerings.
    Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

      The Hercules is a huge upgrade compared to the Chicago Electric Miter Saws LOL. I had the Chicago Electric 10" and 12" Sliding dual bevel compound miter saws, they were good, but the Hercules is a lot better, a much better built saw, the build quality of the Chicago Electric models are not nearly as good.

    When moving the clamp just lift it from the back and place it where desired, also placing a 1 1/2 inch block between clamp and cut piece will allow clamp not having to be screwed all the down resulting in easy-to-use movement of the clamp. it is common for miter saws to have a poor dusting system regardless of the brand. The size of this saw is great, thanks nice video I'll be buying one tomorrow. For those who have space issues will Thank you for giving a heads up on the size of this saw, I have to tell anyone that don't know that the quality of this saw take no back seat to those $700.00 saws, it was really designed for quality save your money buy this saw.

    I was really surprised how much cutting power (and torque) this saw had out of the box. I've used other (10" saws) previously and was pretty surprised with the speed and cutting ability of this Dewalt saw.I have bolted mine to a table to minimize movement which I highly recommend.This is a Great saw th-cam.com/users/postUgkxPeGkHOMe05FySypTOvYumxMn-xi39oRe with a light to see your cutting line (not a laser line).I'd recommend this saw fro anyone looking to upgrade from a 10" miter saw.

  • @melenedezssss
    @melenedezssss 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I see this complaint about space a lot on these sites. Bosch, Delta, & Ridged use a hinged arm rather than steel rods. If your biggest problem is the space it takes, I don't think you should've purchased a sliding miter saw at all. That said, I just got mine & I'm planning on building the needed cabinet space on either side of the planned saw location. I'm debating either making a base for my saw that rolls in & out rather than the permanent dedicated floor space you did. My other option is to simply do a cutout to fit the base & where I mount it will be a slide out shelf using 100Lbs rated drawer slides & a fixed cabinet underneath that equals the depth of the saw when the saw is in it's most compact position. This means my cabinet length will all be as deep as the saw is with blade forward & angled at 60° when not in use. My other consideration will be to just make my cabinets as deep as the most space intensive tool I keep at the wall like a drill press or bandsaw

    I’ll be honest. I think this Saw is going to bea Game Changer. I ran a LargeArchitectual WoodworkingInstallation Department and we use the Dewalt Sliding Compound 12” Saws they were very Versatile To Cut most Trim and Molding s but they go out of Adjustmentvery quickly and Often Yes you can dial them in with some Time and a few Tools but this HF saw with the Lazer is going to give Dewalt a good Competition I. Do like the Dewalt Dual Bevel /NonSliding 12” Miter Saw the best for a DedicatedShop Saw and as long as that doesn’t get misused or abused it will remain one of the most Accurate Tools in your Shop my Personal Saw is over 20 years Old and all I’ve had to do is Sharpen the blade that came on the Saw I was. lucky enough to have a Company Come to my Place Of Business. Pick up the Blades and Return them Professionally Sharpened or Repaired as needed at no Cost to me Personally !

    I got to this video from a post on the woodworking for yuutubers on FB group. I can say the dewalt , similar design is very similar. I had dewalt saw horse looking stand for it as well. It was great at job sites. Still heavy like yours. However in a shop. It steals a lot of shop space even with the saw horse style base. Lots of Realestate. Thanks for sharing your video. I enjoyed it and keep up the great work. You got a new sub here. PS my dewalt died on me after I got my new shop I built with it dried in. I replaced it with a saw that doesn’t have rhe bars coming out the back like rhe dewalt of yours. I am so happy with its new space saving design. Fits on a normal 24” cabinet bad now. ;)

    Thanks for the info. With my limited knowledge of this kind of saw, I don't know why I might care about the difficulty of positioning the clamp. As for the space needed from front to back. That is a very good point to make but I can't tell from your video whether this differs between brands that have the same potential for cut sizes. Without these details, I can't see any reason to prefer a specific brand or to avoid this one. I get the impression that all included vacuum attachments are going to be underwhelming on home owner grade tools.

      @@JARMade Yea sounds like space is a priority in your case, since you have a space issue, I think the perfect miter saw for you would be the Makita LS1219L it's a very nice and rugged saw, you don't have to be concerned about the back and forth movement of the motor and the blade, you push the saw against the wall and forget it because it has inside movement, not outside movement, I'm not sure if it's an upgrade but it's a big 12" saw with nice features such as, up to 60-degree cutting both right and left, the big problem for me is it's nearly twice the price as the Hercules and Quality is about the same, $760.00

    Nice review, in a shop setting a backstop hood style dust collector is the way to go. In regards to weight size the 7 1/4" battery dewalt is the way to go I doubt this is any heavier than the 12" dewalt which is a monster beast. No 12" is really truly a cabinet shop l/ jobsite finish saw to much blade wobble due to size. That said it's. Good enough for the majority.

For most tasks I'm doing the 7-1/4" blade size is plenty, I just need to talk them into getting me a small table saw or at least a circular saw so I can rip boards down that are too wide, rather than having to pack them home and use my own table saw, power, and time.

      Other than the ridiculously over priced Festool Miter Saw there really isn't any miter saw that has good dust collection LOL. I think the designers of Miter Saws in general vision them only being used on jobsites mostly sitting outside so they never concentrate on dust collection it seems....sadly its just the opposite, or maybe closer to 50/50 a lot of people own these types of saws and they are in their workshop, garage, basement, etc. So they really need to start concentrating more on how to collect all the dang dust these saws throw everywhere...its like a sawdust confetti thrower every time you cut something with one LOL....and Radial Arm Saws are terrible for dust collection too, but I don't think any company makes a Radial Arm Saw anymore, at least I haven't seen any around stores for a long time.

But I've been using sliding miter saws for years....and before that Radial Arm Saws...if you want a space waster buy a radial arm saw, then complain about the space it takes up, and the amount of dust you find in places you didn't think you'd ever get dust in.

    I wouldn't really say that the size of the saw is a downside. That really your fault or personal needs. It's not the companies fault that you have a small shop.

      Or that he doesn't own a tape measure to measure the space where the saw is going to be put, or not build something that only fits 1 size of a tool, knowing full well you'll end up replacing it in a few months, or years when you decide you wanna different color.

      If I bought another Miter Saw at some point I might look closer at the Ridgid that doesn't have the rails, but I don't really have an issue with space so its not a problem.....people who whine about how much space a sliding compound miter saw takes, has obviously never owned a radial arm saw, or a table saw bigger than a portable one you can throw in your car.

    No miter saw has good dust collection. It all sucks. You have to augment it to get it to your liking.
    I have the $8 million dollar Bosch sliding compound miter with the glide system and it's a pile of shit for accuracy. Run with the dual rails. Yeah they take up more bench space, but at least they're accurate. My Bosch is total garbage; tech support said it's messed up but they won't warrant it.

    The alternative to saving space is 3X more $$$. This saw is probably the best of the design. DeWalt is a joke now.

      Ridgid has a miter saw that doesn't have rails. Its the R4241 model for 10 inch, and the R4251 for the 12 inch.

    I bought this a couple of years ago. It is pretty much pure junk. I discovered (too late for return) that the fence is not even close to being within plane of either side. If you are looking at it, the left side of the fence that is bolted to the saw is not coplanar with the right side. If you place a straightedge on the left side and slide it towards the right side, it will hit the leading edge of the fence. Basically, the fences are tilted towards each other. I removed the entire fence system from the saw, mounted it in my Bridgeport mill, and brought it into alignment. Still, the sliding portion of the fence is so far out of whack (tilted towards the back of the saw) that I am probably going to toss this junk before I waste any more time on it. Harbor Freight's "dumb tools," such as sockets and wrenches, are fine, but I will never buy anything like this from them again. It would be fine if I was just doing rough, and I mean rough, framing, but I am doing trim, and it just does not work for that.
