Excellent list of books. Even though I am an avid reader, the Lord had a far different approach in my case. After zero faith in my upbringing, He sent me a Catholic wife who later insisted that we go to Lourdes while vacationing in Europe. She cannot remember exactly why. After crossing myself with water from the grotto and crying, just a few days later we received Saint John Paul II's Apostolic blessing as in a crowd at Genoa. The trajectory was set and I was in RCIA the next year. Even then He was not finished. Our parish priest is active in the charismatic renewal. After a Life in the spirit seminar and the laying on of hands, my faith simply took off. That growth in faith has now sustained me through 4 cancers and a stem cell (marrow) transplant. I now "minister" to cancer patients. Praise God heaven for His mercy!
Your story reminds me of that verse that says, "My sheep hear my voice... and they follow me." Long story short, I grew up catholic. Stopped practicing for 12 years. My wife started questioning me about the catholic church since she grew up protestant (even though she was baptized catholic). She made me go back and look into my faith to answer her questions. She believed me. To this day I don't know why, but I asked, "Do you want to see Jesus Christ in the flesh?" She was confused. I took her to an adoration chapel. Keep in mind I hadn't been to church or anywhere near God for 12 years. Without explaining the Eucharist she believed and He began her conversion through that adoration chapel. God is merciful and loving. He tailors the path for you to revert, convert and believe. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord."
Such clear, concise and succinct articulation! So grateful for your sharing of your faith journey and learning. I am confident many souls will convert or revert to the Catholic faith. I am one of them! ❤🙏
Unbelievable how Protestant converts to Catholicism are more on fire for The Catholic Church then a lot of the cradle Catholics. It’s like they found a treasure out in the field and the can’t stop rejoicing for having found it. God Bless them for their zeal. May God bless them abundantly with graces upon graces. Amen
@@midairfortress-revert That’s the Holy Spirit filling you with many graces. He is calling you for something greater. Perhaps conferences or retreats like Keith Nester does. If Catholics only knew the basics they wouldn’t need to leave the Church.
@@HAL9000-su1mz yea.. it’s like Jews who grew up with the knowledge of God and look at how they rebelled vs the gentiles when St Paul welcomed them into the faith, they couldn’t stop rejoicing.
you and I are in the same journey friend. i began reading the church fathers last August, and after reading first Clement couldn’t shake the truth that the early church truly believed in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist and many other church fathers and many other books throughout the last eight months have led me on the path of truth! I also am a revert who was a worship pastor for the last 15 years! Grace and peace to you!
how awesome! I'm so glad to hear this. Justin was a HUGE red pill for me. When I read his description of the liturgy written in 155AD I was just blown away. It's almost the exact same as today's Liturgy. Welcome home!

Hooray! I already have one. Bought it second hand for about £5 delivered. Many thanks for thee book recommendations! Also worth noting that you can find the Catechism online if you can't wait, can't afford it or need to refer someone to it.
And I can heartily recommend the Rev. George Leo Haydock Bible Commentary, also available online. The wisdom of Christian greats is a true source of illumination.
@@BensWorkshop It may be available in print, but I find the online reference quick and easy. The commentary on 1 Timothy 2:5 is a good counter to the misuse of that verse. Not that we ever see that.... 🙄
Thank you for this great list! I already read 3 of the 5. I'm halfway through "The Catholic Controversy" and the last will be "Jesus and the Jewish roots...". Can you recommend another good book on the reformation itself dealing with Calvin and Luther even more than the "Controversy"? From a catholic perspective of course...hearing protestants like Doug Wilson talk about the "Great reformation" makes me cringe, I want to know more about what happened than De Sales goes into. I'm a cradle Baptist, long story short...I'm registered for OCIA with my family in August. God bless you man!
No, the magisterium is the totality of the Church's authoritative teaching. However whether the Catechism or magisterium it is important to understand not all teachings are equal in level of authority some are dogma and some are not.
The catechism is basically the "owners manual of Catholicism" with our faith described step by step. Magisterium is basically the interpretation and teaching authority that sets in stone the beliefs...which go into the catechism.
